Matt’s Great Harvest buns have returned!! I have no idea why he stopped making them, but I put in a special request and here they are! They are not a normal Great Harvest staple – they usually make some with leftover dough after all of the loaves have been formed, so not even sure you can get them nationwide. Special!
I topped both sides with Laughing Cow, Crofter’s Europe and wheatberries!
On the side – split pea soup!
Reader Samantha sent me two glass containers for food storage ’cause I was using too much plastic. Love how cute they are! I wanted to pack a bit more soup, but my choice was tiny or extra large so I went with tiny. Going to heat it up in the work microwaves.
Lastly, dark chocolate. The other RDs often nibble on dark chocolate after lunch and they have me craving it too!
This is a special bar that Ashley sent me a while ago – Lavender Blueberry! I had a bite while packing my lunch – just as good as it sounds!
Afternoon snax for 4PM: A blueberry Fruition bar (love these! Chia seed crunch!) and two tiny clems
I can smell the weekend stewing!
Heather (Heather's Dish) says
i had split pea soup last night…such a fabulous combination! i need to see if our local GH makes those buns too…and maybe request that they do it? they look amazing!
Sam says
YAY! I’m so happy for your soup : ) And happy that you are going to eat Ashland chocolate too!
How is Matt liking the clogs?
Kath says
I think he likes them! He said he’s less mobile and they hurt his one arch a bit, but he’s still getting used to them.
Beth @ Beth's Journey to Thin says
What a cool idea to put wheat berries on top of crofters and laughing cow cheese! I picked up the Crofters Asia the other day… is Europe your favorite?
Kath says
Asia was my least favorite – but stil good! North America is the best :()
Jessica @ How Sweet says
They are almost like homemade sandwich thins!
Freya @ Brit Chick Runs says
Ooh dark chocolate is the best way to end any meal! I have some after lunch and dinner – 2 squares a day keep the doctor away!
Sami says
at first i thought the wheatberries were sunflower seeds! (which also might’ve been tasty!)
anyway, is the split pea another one of those “better on the second day” kind of foods? 🙂 i would imagine it could be! either way, looks like a yummy lunch.
i can’t find crofter’s in the food stores near me 🙁 depressing!!
Lisa says
I’ve never heard of glass containers. Do they leak at all?
Kath says
This one didn’t today, but I can see how they might…
Mama Pea says
Hell to the yes for GH buns! That signifies grilling season to me. As does their ice cream sandwiches with their homemade cookies, but we won’t even go there.
Hillary [Nutrition Nut on the Run] says
Sounds like all the RDs are on the right page ; ) I usually finish my lunch [and dinner] with dark chocolate too!
Megan (The Runner's Kitchen) says
Dark chocolate is such a healthy and yummy indulgence. Yay! Love glass containers for microwaving foods – they don’t sketch me out like plastic.
Erin (Travel, Eat, Repeat) says
I’m slowly switching over to all glass storage containers. It’s just hard when there’s so much Tupperware lying around… It’s definitely good to know they’re BPA-free, though.
Lily @ Lily's Health Pad says
Oh my. That lavender blueberry chocolate was too much for me!
I loved the idea of it! I thought it would taste great. But, Holy, Lavender!

I put this on the swim post, but there are so many comments Im reposting it to ensure you get to see it!
I can give you endless workouts/ideas for the pool! 2 minutes sounds just right for a fairly new swimmer doing 100 meters. An idea for your next workout:
-500 meter warmup. nice and easy, work on your form (like keeping head down, breathing every 3rd or 5th stroke on alternate sides, getting your whole body into the side to side motion of your strokes, and *pulling your arm through the water all the way, almost out even*).
-200 meters drill:: 25 meters only left arm (keep the other one in front, not behind), 25 meters right arm only. 50 meters catch up (where you make your hand touch your other hand in front of you before starting your next stroke). 50 meters zipper (where you drag your fingers up the side of your body for each stroke. 25 meters kicking on your left side. 25 meters kicking on your right side.
-100 meters freestyle swim, easy.
-200 meters kick! (all with kick board) first 50, easy kick. short rest. 2nd 50, first half SPRINT KICK, second half easy kick. short rest. 3rd 50, easy kick. 4th 50, first half SPRINT KICK, 2nd half, easy kick.
-The Challenge. this is the interval/fat burning/hard strengthening part. These times might be wrong, but Im assuming you meant that sprinting the 100 took you 2 minutes. If the times are too easy/hard, adjust them accordingly, just take note of the ratios of rest/work.
6 100’s free sprint on the 2:15. 1st 100, strong. 2nd 100, stronger. 3rd 100, hard as you can go. THEN 4th 100, strong. 5th 100, strongerrr. 6th 100, hard as you can go. (“on the 2:15” means that every 2:15 you start the next 100. So say you start at the top, at the 12, then you will sprint your 100 and probably get back around the top again, and then you will have 15 seconds rest, and you will start your 2nd 100 on the 15…etc)
-4 25’s warm down. nice and eassyyy.
🙂 have fun!
Kath says
Thanks!

Hoooray for switching to class containers, especially for things that have to be heated up. We are all glass now except a few odd sizes that we couldn’t find in glass but we are always on the lookout!
Whitney @ Lettuce Love says
Love those glass containers! So much better than the plastic ones.
Sarah @ LongLegsHealthyLife says
You’ve got a lot of people complimenting you on your buns today Kath! That sandwich looks yummy, I never thought of adding wheatberries to a sandwich. You reminded me that I had a bar of Lindt Dark with Sea Salt in my purse, so I had to get a square out to eat after lunch! Chocolate makes the afternoon better!!
Heather @ Health, Happiness, and Hope says
Those buns always look SO good Kath! I was wondering why I hadn’t seen them around lately. 😉

The lavender blueberry chocolate sounds awesome 😀

When I read return of the buns I though of racing buns haha. Those look very fresh and healthy, so glad you got your hands on some!
Katie@ Two Lives, One Lifestyle says
Dagoba makes some good chocolate- I love the superfruit variety. Did the lavender blueberry taste peppery to you?? There was something about it that reminded me of pepper when I tried it. But I still liked it!
:: Rochelle says
Kath,
I love your split pea soup recipe!! We eat it at least once/week! My bf has parenting time w/ his son a couple times per week. The other night I asked him, “What is your choice for the bestest dinner we can have?” Without batting an eye he said, “Split pea soup!” I love this four-year old!! We call the bacon crumbles “sprinkles”.
Crate & Barrel has those containers for cheap!!

Hey, Kath! Just started reading your blog this week and I love it. You have such a simplistic, yet artistic way of talking about “real food” and I “Really” love it. Anyway, I keep seeing pics of your food with adorable little spoons and I wanted to ask where you get them. Thanks!
Kath says
Thanks 🙂
Spoons are Crate + Barrel
Bethany @ Not Unless I'm Being Chased says
Oh I LOVE that dark chocolate. My husband went on a business trip to Hershey, PA (I know, *poor* guy) and brought me back some goodies. That lavender blueberry one was my favorite :).

We just switched to all glass containers for food, drinks and food storage. I have read so much about how the chemicals in plastic can leach in to your food, its a bit scary.
Many of the containers can be recycled. A lot of ours were still in good shape so we donated them. We had one of those huge black trash bags filled with containers.
Be sure to check on your canned goods like tomatoes, many of them are lined with BPA and since tomatoes are so acidic they leach even more nastiness out of the BPA.
Eden Foods doesn’t use BPA and Muir Glen’s cans are enamel lined.
Have a great weekend!

I saw you on TV a couple of weeks ago. I am really struggle with my weight. I guess the hardest part for me is planning. I need some super foods to help me along. I am very tired and sluggish all the time therefore I don’t move as much as I should. I am really in need of some help and that is why I started following your blog. Thanks for what you are doing.

Welcome!

Hey Kath! Lunch looks great as usual, although I’m pretty skeptical about lavender-flavored chocolate 😉 but hey, don’t knock it til you try it, right?
Just a Q – does GH have any plans for gluten-free stuff?
Happy Thursday!
Meg
Kath says
Some GH’s do have gluten free and some just have spelt. The problem is more contamination from the other wheat flours flying around.
Lauren @ eater not a runner says
Those look so good! And I love your little spoon 🙂
Camille says
The chocolate sounds unique and delicious!
I firmly believe that chocolate should end every meal!
Steph- Exercise Physiologist & Artist! says

I am so jealous of your buns!! I am totally going to try those toppings the next time I have a “fun” sandwich.
I love that pic of your food in the beautiful little bush too 🙂

I always use glass containers, although they can get heavy! I have never had a problem with leaking. The best sources are:
1. REUSING glass containers that other things come in (like pasta sauce) this is perfect for soups/stews (if you can keep a bowl at work).
2. Marshalls/TJ MAXX- they always have a huge selection of pyrex/anchor and more that are way cheaper sometimes you can even buy sets!
3. Costco- has a set of all different sizes for about $30 which is a great deal and I have found these are the only ones that don’t break when I drop them out of the fridge (they are square not round).
You can find glass containers in all sizes I have from baby 1/2 cup and every size up to about 2 quarts.
Erin (thehealthyapron.com) says
Your lunchs looks tasty!
Teri [a foodie stays fit] says
mmm…I love Dagoba but I’ve never seen that flavor! I’ll have to get Ashley to send me some too. 😉 I’ve been thinking about getting glass food containers too since all I have is plastic. What brand are those?
Kath says
They’re Anchor brand
Sophie says
I asked my local GH not too long ago about Dakota buns. They said they don’t make them, but if I put in a request, they could do something like dinner rolls. They said one woman special orders Spinach Feta rolls once a month! Yummmm
Katharine says
Mmm split pea soup is my fave. It’s a Christmas Eve tradition at my dad’s house and always takes me back to my childhood. 🙂
Jessica @ The Process of Healing says
Well that explains why I’ve never seen the buns at my local great harvest, too bad. You guys should make those when you open your own store!!!

Lavender blueberry chocolate sounds wonderful. I love when companies come up with really unique and exotic flavors of things. It’s nice to bring away from the traditional.
Ashley says
Glad the chocolate was tasty!!! Yaay 🙂 Mmmm I haven’t had GHB in waaaay too long…this needs to change!
Hannah says
1. LOVE the idea of wheatberries in your sandwich. I might try it with quinoa!
2. That’s one of my favourite Dagobas. Sadly I find Dagoba terribly hit and miss, with some tasting nothign like what they purport too. But luckily this lavendar one lives up to its name. 🙂 (Don’t try the 100% – it’s revolting, just tastes ot nothingness. But Pralus makes a delicious 100%!)
Anne @ Food Loving Polar Bear says
I’ve never had or heard of chocolate with lavender in it before reading about it in your blog 😀

We can’t get those GH buns in Burlington, VT and I’m so jealous! Enjoy.
