Good morning!! We are well rested and full of coffee! I’m being a lot more conscious of caffeine and had half a cup of regular made in our room followed by about 3 cups of decaf at breakfast.
We slept well, and woke up around 6:30am to open the balcony door for some fresh California air! It’s not too cold out there and feels great!
And the morning gloom is just beginning to burn off.
We walked through the hotel and downtown to find a good spot for breakfast.
This hotel is so famous and cool!
We settled into a spot called The Rhinoceros Café
The decaf! The café had excellent service – my mug was never empty.
I had my favorite vacation breakfast: plain yogurt with granola and fruit.
This granola tasted amazing! I couldn’t help to eat every last crumb because it was that delicious.
So was the fruit! Love it when banana is included in a fruit bowl
Karen got a fancy entrée of eggs with sausage, potatoes and a biscuit and shared a bite of her biscuit with me.
And Matt had the yogurt + fruit bowl with a biscuit on the side – plus 5 cups of coffee and some of Karen’s dish.
Delicious!
We’re going to celebrate the day with a bike ride on the island, and Convention activities begin this evening. We’ve already ran into a handful of owners we know!
Rachel says
that granola looks to die for!

I love all the rhinos everywhere! And my mom always buys fruit salad from the grocery store, and then chops up a banana to add in! God bless her.

California has the best food in the world. I had life-changing granola last time I was out there – now I wish I’d beat down the kitchen door for the recipe!

What a wonderful weekend. I will be dreaming about that place. I cannot wait until spring hits here in PA. I just want to go camping, sit by a fire and drink coffee while watching sun rise. Don’t need much from life, that is my heaven. Followed by me making an unbelievable vegan breakfast, of course!
Paige @ Healthy Hits the Spot says
Looks like you are having such a great time! Wow, I love seeing these posts! I also love when banana is included in the fruit bowl. Also, I can only imagine that if I couldn’t drink Caffeine, I would be all over that decaf coffee, too! Coffee is so warm and comforting. Have a great day with your family & riding bikes! How fun!

That’s a lot of coffee – wow! How do you guys hold so much? I find after just a cup I’m full and have to make several bathroom trips shortly after!

I’m from the Del Mar/Coronado area and I always tell people they have to visit Point Loma Seafood (close to the airport) or The Hash House (which is famous for their Las Vegas location — but there is one in Hillcrest!) ENJOY SAN DIEGO!!!

what a delicious start to the day!
Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga says
Sounds like the day is off to a good start. Glad you had great service and bottomless cups of coffee. The Hotel Del is beautiful and the day has gone from cloudy to sunny to sort of gray-ish but not awful…hopefully the weather holds up for you guys while you’re in town.
Kerry @ Totes My Oats says
You guys fueled up with a yummy breakfast and enough coffee for sure! Enjoy your day!

You just can’t beat the Hotel Del. We have stayed there before and it was just great.
San Diego is a great city. Do you have time for the zoo? It’s great as well.
Have a fun time.

Haha before I was pregnant I could easily drink 5 cups of those little restaurant mugs of coffee 🙂
Sneakers2Sandals says
I’m thinking of cutting back the caffeine also. Prob good idea for the little bun in your oven !
Lauren @ Oatmeal after Spinning says
I’m totally fine with decaf- I just like a hot drink, period! I go in phases with caffeine, but can do without it just fine (and should probably do without it anyway!)
The breakfasts all look so wonderful! I have a typical “vacation breakfast” too- but it’s just toast with almond butter, honey and bananas (easy to make anywhere!).
Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife says
What a fun weekend! A plate of fruit sounds fantastic to me too!

It’s funny I just read this post about your granola for breakfast when I was debating what flavor granola to make next not 5 minutes ago! Granola on the brain! =)
Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin says
I think I would have ordered exactly what you did! I’m never lucky enough to find yogurt + granola on restaurant menus around here though. 😛
Amelia says
My relatives used to run the Hotel Del and until a couple years ago we had a family cottage on the beach right next door — it was so simple and amazing and I’m so sad it’s gone! (replaced by hotel villas – boo). But of course Coronado runs deep in my soul and I just love every minute I spend there!!
I recommend the Brigantine fish tacos if you happen to end up there!
KathEats says
Wow so cools
Michelle (Better with Berries) says
Granola with yogurt and fruit is my favorite vacation breakfast too! Whenever there’s a parfait on the menu, I can’t not order it.
