If you are thinking of visiting Bald Head Island, fourth of July week is the time to come! It’s the most popular week of the year here, and everyone gets in the spirit!
We woke up yesterday to stormy skies, and the clouds opened up with buckets of rain right before the Annual Golf Cart Parade.
We hopped in our golf carts anyways, and hoped to not get too soggy. Luckily the clouds parted a bit, and the parade began!
The golf cart floats were so creative! I loved the Trolls themed one, and a few of the Pirates of the Caribbean ones. In the future we hope to participate 🙂
By the end of the parade, the sun came out! YAY!
We spent the day at the beach, and then dressed in our finest red, white and blue for a party at the Bald Head Island Club.
The Club puts on this party every year, and it was fabulous. There were jumpy things and games for the kids, a live band, and a huge buffet featuring all kinds of seafood.
Blue crabs, fried oysters, baked oysters, shrimp – oh my!!!
Dessert was also a big hit!!
Mazen’s shirt is from J Crew Factory, and he and Uncle Matt were matching!
Red, white, and fun!

Fun 4th of July! Glad it wasn’t rainy for the festival. That’s quite the cookout, too. Much more variety than the typical burgers and hot dogs.

What a fun place to celebrate the 4th! I’ve never been, but I think the whole no car / golf cart thing sounds amazing and so relaxing.

Love love love these posts! And you all look so happy and festive! I have a son about Mazen’s age and a younger daughter, and we’re actually headed to Bald Head Labor Day week…we’re so excited! Any tips for first timers? 🙂

Call and make tram reservations NOW! It gets so crowded they fill up. The ferry tickets are readily available, but you need the tram to deliver you and your luggage to your house. (Maybe you already have them!) Also, get some good plastic tubs to throw a bunch of food things in like crackers, breakfast cereal, any room temp veggies from home, bottles of wine. The groceries here on the island are expensive (especially snacky stuff). Are you renting a house?! Where!?

We were supposed to make this trip 2 years ago, but I had some complications with my pregnancy with my daughter (all turned out fine!), but my doctor halted my travel plans. We were renting Villa 55 near the BHI Club, and the owners were so kind and gracious with our situation, so we have had a credit with them and are just now getting to our trip. So this is 2 years of excitement built up to visit this place! 🙂 I can’t wait for ocean views and to be free of cars for a week! We did already make our tram reservations as the owners had given us that advice, and I could see where prime spots were already almost full! Great tip on the snacks and such…my in-laws are coming with us, and they’ll need their wine! 🙂 I was planning to bring some things, but I’ll rethink and add some more. Do you think it’s worth stopping at a grocery in Southport for some refrigerated items…meat and dairy…or the hassle doesn’t outweigh the premium island prices? We’re coming from Ohio, so I’m sure we’ll have tired/cranky kiddos at ferry arrival! Thanks so much for your advice!

Exciting! We call those the “Alligator Villas” because there are gators in the water around them! If you have littles, be on the watch. I do think it’s worth it to get some items, but only if you have time. I’d plan on getting to Southport 1.5 hours before your ferry just to plan for traffic, and you can go to the Super Wal-Mart there to kill time (it’s only about 5 minutes from the ferry), but the prices aren’t so bad they would wipe you out! I’d say 10-15% higher than mainstream grocery stores. I hope you have a wonderful time!

Awesome tips…thanks again! Enjoy the rest of your trip!

Do you think it’s relaxing or stressful to travel especially at a time of pregnancy?!

Okay, I’m just realizing how much uncle Matt, and Mazen’s dad look alike! Wow! I thought that he was the other Matt at first.
