Breakfast fun!
I made sure to eat oats today so I’d have plenty of energy for our run
1/2 cup oats (prepackaged with chia, cinnamon and salt) with 3/4 of a banana, a splash of milk, fresh berries, granola and a little Barney Butter.
I had some of the inn’s coffee today to get my caffeine on!
This breakfast was the perfect run fuel!
Digestion was spent with my nose in a book by the fire
I’m reading a fun girly novel
At 11:15 Kanz, Matt, Andrew and I set out on our run journey.
We did it!!!!! 7.0 miles in an hour!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We weren’t planning to run for speed but once we got going we just kept up the pace.
Andrew drove us to the middle of nowhere, Middle Island to be specific, and dropped us off. He then drove the golf cart back and met us halfway through the route on foot, as he wasn’t totally primed for 7 miles.
The run started out leisurely enough – we just ran at a natural pace. Which turned out to be an 8:35 mile! Yikes! I still can hardly believe how fast my pace has gotten. I am not built for speed!!
Miles 2 and 3 went by so quickly at 8:28 and 8:29.
At mile 4 we met up with Andrew. Our pace slowed dramatically when we hit the western winds of the South Beach road – 8:48, 8:51 and 9:02. We were running right into a hefty wind blanket.
The boys had commented early in the run that we might be able to finish the whole 7 in 60 minutes. We knew it would be hard and we couldn’t slow down much (and we did) but mile 6 we sprinted in at an 8:26 pace to see my Garmin say 1:00. SWEET! Definitely broke all kinds of personal records on this run.
My Gmaps-Pedometer route plan. I’d say we covered the island coast to coast!
I was totally beet red in the face when we finished and now feel kind of like i ran a race this morning. My lungs and legs are totally worn out.
We came inside and started a 20 minute hatha YogaDownload but ended up just stretching
And the boys started eating popcorn during the stretching. I don’t think we had the concentration for yoga!
Lunch occurred at 1:30PM per usual and we got out all of our sandwichy ingredients. I ended up making a salad with some leftover spring mix
Contents:
- Spring Mix
- Annie’s Balsamic
- A roma tomato
- 1/4 yellow bell pepper
- A hard boiled egg
- A clementine
- ~5 almonds
- ~1/2 a cube of cheese
Plus half a pear and a piece of toast that I gave to Kanz after two bites cause I got full
The Christmas cookies are all gone, so the Christmas M&Ms appeared.
SO SO delicious!!! I had 2-3 small handfuls for dessert
We said farewell to Larbs + Matt who are on their way to New Orleans for a wedding. Tomorrow more flies drop when Andrew, Karen and my parents leave, but we’re gaining two friends!
I am ready to just veg on the couch, but the boys are talking about climbing up the lighthouse and walking on the beach. Not sure I can turn that down!
Deva (Voracious Vorilee) says

How cool that you basically ran across the island! And that you’ve gotten that fast. I find that really inspiring, especially this week when I’m getting ready for my first 5K on Friday and am feeling a little bummed about how slow I am. One day I will be fast(er)! 🙂
Lauren @ Eater not a runner says
Wow that is an awesome run! Congrats! Is there anything you’ve done to improve your speed? I am a slow runner but want to work on speeding up!
Kath says
I ran with people who were faster than me!! AnneP and Sarah Ghost World are both speedy. It’s like my muscles remembered how to fun faster. And my Garmin let me know that I was really running fast. It makes all the motivational difference in the world.
Stef says
cool to map out your run like that! you’re a speed demon!
candice says
You look absolutely glowing after your run! Man, I need to go… take a walk or something, haha! You inspire me to exercise, thank you. 🙂 That salad is beautiful—the clementines add a lovely burst of color (and flavor too, I bet!).

Wow, I admire your endurance! I don’t think I’m made for running- I can barely run for 1 min! I want to definitely work towards straight running for at least 20 min. An hour seems crazy to me! Love the pics of the guys eating popcorn while stretching, it made me giggle!

I’ve been reading your blog for quite awhile now, and i’ve noticed that like me, you read quite a bit. Might I recommend a Kindle from Amazon? It’s a little bit pricey (like $275), but i’ve found mine to be worth every penny. There are so many books for free that you can download, and all the other books tend to be majorly discounted as well. It’s also suppossed to be better on your eyes since the screen isn’t backlighted and it’s like reading an actual book. I just figured that since you seem to travel a lot, a Kindle would really benefit you, instead of lugging around a whole bunch of books which can get heavy. Don’t get me wrong, there’s something about a real book which will always be superior, but a Kindle is really convenient. You should look into it.
Well, now that i’ve totally tried to sell you on the Kindle, i’ll stop, haha. Thanks for the blog, Kath! I look forward to reading it every day!
Kath says
I would really love a Kindle but can’t justify the expense right now because of the library…and audio books for free.
Erin @ Big Girl Eats says
That is awesome Kath!! Way to go on the speediness! It’s awesome to see your time/distances improve over the past months/year, especially since one of my goals this year is to increase my 5K times. Congrats!
And that oatmeal looks beautiful. Yum!
