Ice cream for breakfast!?
Sure tasted like ice cream! When I asked mom, who has a sweet tooth, if she would like a smoothie for breakfast she hesitated and said, “Probably, but I don’t want a green one.” So I think she was pleasantly surprised with my purple ice cream 🙂
I put too much frozen fruit in a smoothie for mom and me and had the hardest time getting it to blend. When it finally did, it was frozeny sorbet texture.
Ingredients
- 1 frozen banana
- 2 cups frozen berries
- 1.5 cups milk
- 1 tbsp chia seeds
- 1/3 cup raw oats
- Cville Cluster on top!
Lipton Tea on the side – to be like mom! She’s obsessed. Also, I’ve lost my love for coffee again. It’s just too hot!
This morning marks the start of something big for a member of our blogging community:
Susan of The Great Balancing Act received the news that she has a mass in her chest and neck that has turned out to be Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. She first shared the news of her cancer in this post, A Long Hard Road, and then later wrote of her official diagnosis in this post, Lymphoma, Explained.
I am totally in awe of Susan’s positivity, honesty and strength during the past few weeks. Having just gone through a cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy with my mother-in-law Karen (who you all see nearly daily), it broke my heart to read that Susan is now going through it too.
To show our support, many bloggers have bonded together under the lead of Janetha of Meals and Moves, who has spent weeks coordinating a massive auction and bake sale – The Great Fundraising Act – to help support Susan and the financial strain the drugs will have on her family. There are HUNDREDS of items to bid on – from blogger baked goods to big company donations.
From yours truly on behalf of Great Harvest Cville – a bag of Cville Cluster and Pancake Mix! Bids start at $10.
Hope you’ll consider browsing + bidding on items with Susan in mind.
Have a wonderful day!

Looks so great! In New York City this weekend we shopped at Fishs Eddy, and I thought of you because they carry such pretty and unique dishware/mugs/linens.

I love the purple color of your smoothies – they get me every single time. And I hear ya on the losing your taste for coffee. I haven’t been able to finish my one cup for the past several days. I never connected it to the weather but that’s a good point!
I love what the blogging community is doing for Susan. My heart broke when I read about it and I definitely plan to contribute to the cause!
Erika @ The Teenage Taste says
This probably sounds weird but that ice cream is so pretty! The shade of purple is so vivid! Enjoy!
Katie @ Nourishing Flourishing says
I’m back into tea again as well — coffee seems heavy in the sweltering heat, doesn’t it? Can’t wait to see how the fundraiser blows expectations out of the water; the blogging community has a way of doing that! 🙂
Sarena (The Non-Dairy Queen) says
Seriously, you can never go wrong with ice cream for breakfast! The colors are amazing too. I bet that would be so good over a waffle! I do banana soft serve over peanut butter “cookie” waffles for my boys all the time. It’s fun eating fun foods for breakfast especially when it feels like you’re getting away with something. I hope you have a great day Kath.
Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat says
I love the bright pop of colour in your bowl this morning Kath! I’m so pumped for TGFA today – it’s going to be huge!
Kristin @ eat healthy. be happy. live well says

I was just beginning to lose my taste for hot coffee in the morning, and then the cooler temps came around (66 this morning!!!) So, needless to say, I’m back on the coffee bandwagon until the next heat wave comes around.
LOVE your “ice cream” for breakfast! 😀

Is there anywhere to make a donation without bidding? I probably can’t donate enough to win one of the bids, but I would like to donate what I can.

If I can eat chocolate for lunch and dinner (which I admit has happened more than once) you can definitely eat ice cream for breakfast. Somehow, I doubt you would ever really stoop so low. But if you did, I would have your back.
Hillary says
Your breakfast is exactly what I’m making for lunch! Great minds think alike, right? ; )

I always read your blog and I actually get a bit jealous when I read how hot it is at your place always. Man, I live in Europe (Holland) and we’re supposed to have summer. But it’s more like autumn the past month 🙁
Love your posts and keep up the good work!
Hannah says
Teehee, I’ve had that problem with super-thick frozen berry smoothies too! But it’s a “problem” I welcome – the thicker the better in my book!
