It may be a “work night” but at least it was a fun one! Having social events on work nights adds a magic touch.
After work I made room for a little exercise. 99% stress relief, 1% health benefit. Biking, mastering the stairs, pullups, pushups, dips, biking, done.
Before I left I was still full of sardines, but I had a little bit of dried fruit to combat “afternoon mouth”
Mangosteen! I really have NO way of describing these MegaFruit samples. They’re like nuts and seeds and fruit combined. But good!
When I returned from the gym I was quite hungry and wanted to eat a loaf of bread (my go-to food for hungry eating!) I had a small hunk of Dakota while I packed my lunch (you can expect to see Dakota hunks in it!) and then an apple with a blob of Nuttzo (which I’d been craving all day since I had it at breakfast!) filling in the cracks.
And then we headed up to The Liberty to meet Conor and his family and friends for a celebratory pub grub dinner!
Congrats Conor!!
The Liberty is a gastropub and serves awesome gourmet pub grub
Like the most amazing thick chips –
“Bowled” peanuts (=boiled)
And of course, beer!
I ordered the Peak Organic Espresso Amber Ale. It did NOT disappoint!! Totally coffee and red ale mixed. YUM!!!
I had a bite of Devils on Horseback (dates wrapped in bacon!)
And grub….lots and lots of more chips!
I filled up on beer, peanuts and chips, so I just ordered a salad for my meal. It was a stack of tomato with bacon, arugula, corn and edamame with garlic aioli and dressing.
Unfortunately, it was not very good. Filled with unmentionables (onions) that were not on the menu. I ended up sending it back. Had it been my fault I would not have, but onions were no where mentioned, so I felt it was the menu’s fault.
I got a garden salad in its place, which was nice and simple but also had onions in the dressing. I ignored those as best I could and ate up all my greenery.
Matt got a form of kobe beef (grass-fed!) and soba noodles for dinner. He shared bites.
I had sips of his beer and chips for dessert!
Thank you to the Robinson’s for treating us to dinner!
And thanks to Matt for brightening my day. He’s the best 🙂
Matt’s alarm is set for 2:30a and mine is about to be set for 5:26a. Time to get in bed!

I’ve been a faithful daily reader of your blog/website for about a month now and I love it. I try to think carefully about my food choices, but since reading your blog I’ve really been inspired to make even healthier changes. You make eating healthy look fabulous and delicious. Anyway, just had to say, I am not a raw onion fan so when I read tonight’s menu disappointment I totally agree. Thanks again for sharing your story with us.
Coco @ Opera Girl Cooks says
Mm, I love boiled peanuts!

i love that you just slathered the nut butter right on the apple – LOL!
Stacie @ Imperfectly Healthy says
I LOVE homemade chips!
I think it’s so funny when I watch Paula Deen and she says “bowled” instead of “boiled”. That’s deep south right there! 🙂

Gourmet pub food sounds like so much fun! I love how you are able to balance more decadent fare (i.e. the chips and peanuts) with lighter, nutritious foods (i.e. the salad) when you go out to eat. It’s inspirational to see someone who chooses food off a menu that meets nutritional needs without sacrificing the fun that comes with going out to eat at a restaurant. That’s a talent, my dear. I’m still learning on how to find that balance.

That’s pretty fancy bar food!

I hate when you order a salad and it does not match the description on the menu. Good for you for sending it back, sometimes you just need to do that. I’m working tomorrow too, so I understand how you feel. At least we both have Sunday off. 🙂
Jenn (Jenn's Menu and Lifestyle Blog) says
That bowl of chips looks so yummy! I love thick chips. Sorry about your salad 🙁 I hate when restaurant food fails to deliver! It looks nice, though.

I can’t believe I lived in Charlottesville, the South, for a year, and never had boiled peanuts! Shame on me. Shame on me.

Ohmygosh, when I first saw the picture of that apple, I though the nut butter was ctually just rotten apple!! I had to look twice at that lol 😛 Meh, it’s early-ish here..I’m tired!
Have a good day 🙂

I love boiled peanuts! I moved to Atlanta 8 years ago and they’re one of the only Southern foods that I really found myself liking.
