Good Saturday to you all!!!
Our running group training this morning was a lot of fun. I sort of wish I’d participated in the running! The program is in preparation of the Women’s 4 Miler that takes place on September 3. There are 4,000 women in the race and all proceeds go to the UVA Cancer Center Breast Care Program. Having had my grandmother, mother-in-law and several family friends affected by cancer, we’re thrilled to be able to support the race. And I ENTERED on the spot to run!!
Today’s session was day 2 of the training program, which encourages women to walk, skip or sprint to get their legs ready for the race. There were probably 700 women there dressed in all kinds of gear – pink boas included!
I biked over (about 3 miles) and met Matt for set up
Two Great Harvest owners slicing during bakery hours!? That means that the business was left in charge of our crew, and they did a fabulous job holding down the fort!
We brought Cinnamon Chip and Honey Whole Wheat and gave our every last bit! Plus honey bears : )
I biked back home, took a shower and packed up for the day and then walked to the bakery while talking to my mom on the phone who was also walking in her neighborhood at home! It took me just under an hour to walk the 3 miles to the bakery in the hot sun. Nothing a few minutes in the walk in cooler couldn’t fix!
After some work at the front counter, I sat down to a Monticello Garden Lemony Hummus Sandwich
And they finally remembered to save the decaf coffee for icing – so now I have decaf to drink!! YUM!
Trying to keep my sweets intake reduced today! Karen is here helping out and we’re going out to dinner when the bakery closes down.
There’s not that much bread left!!! Lots of pumpkin muffins though : )

Seriously though, I think your race slicing events are soooo awesome and a great way to connect with the community. So if you ever decide to go on the road, I could hook you up with some PA races 😉

It’s a good thing you signed up. I signed one of my daughters and me up this morning. My 12 year old was undecided, and then decided she wanted to this afternoon, and she’s #80 on the wait list! I’m dying for some pumpkin muffins, but won’t get there before you close tonight!
Laura @ Sprint 2 the Table says
Congrats on signing up for the race! These types of races always have a special feeling of camaraderie.
Love that you even gave away the honey bears. 🙂
Ashley @ the fit academic says
oh man, those pumpkin chocolate chip muffins are my ALL TIME favorite!!! Love GH!!!
Molly @ RDexposed says
I’d much rather see GH bread at a finish line than things like pizza or lasagna. Lucky runners!
sandi says
Have to say that I stopped in at the Great Harvest in Jackson Hole today! I was so excited because I had never been to one and since I had watched yours from the beginning I thought it was time to get a sandwich! I had the Chicken Salad (yummy) then HAD to get your Savannah Bar to see what that was all about and then bought a half loaf of the cranberry walnut (?) bread! Everything was yummy and I tweeted you a pic!!!

I think it’s great that you guys walk and bike everywhere. How often do you have to put gas in your car?
KathEats says
Like once a month – if that!! Sometimes I worry I let my car sit too long!
Lynne says
That sandwich you had looks amazing, and I covet your travel mug with the Great Harvest logo as well….. : ) Good job to give back to the community -anything that can be done to kick cancer’s ass is good with me…..my mom died of pancreatic cancer in 2001. I don’t comment often, but I so enjoy reading your blog….
KathEats says
I’m sorry to hear about your mom Lynne
Colleen says
I don’t comment often but read everyday and thought I should today, I just bought a bike (& helmet) ,and today took my 7yr old for a ride, she was able to ride the whole four miles, I thought of you when we stopped to eat I thought, “Kath always finds something healthy to eat, so I can as well” We had deli sandwiches. Side note my daughter in college has been telling her friends about your blog as well and using it for recipes similar to moms. 😉
KathEats says
🙂 Yay
chelsey @ clean eating chelsey says
You sure were active this morning! Have a great dinner!
Catherine@happinessafterheartache says
I love pumpkin-y things, but it does always seem fall-ish. So, my solution? Stock up on Pumpkin Pie ice cream! The taste of fall but the dessert of summer. Yum!
Jessica @ The Process of Healing says
Mmmm.. iced coffee!! And I still have YET to fulfill my GH craving. Must happen SOON!
Shannon says
Thanks so much for the YUM bread and honey this morning at the 4 miler training! It was nice meeting you in person. I have been following your blog. I went by the shop and got my fur babies some treats and they LOVE them! My hubby loved his treat I picked up for him as well! For myself I picked up the Naturally Nutty in white chocolate coconut…Heaven in a jar! I will be back! 🙂
KathEats says
So glad!

This sounds like a fantastic event!
I am a Crew Leader for the AVON 2-Day Walk for Breast Cancer here in Charlotte this year. I’ve done the walk before (back when it was 3 days = 60 miles).
My Gram is an 18-year Breast Cancer SURVIVOR! AND a 5 year Colon Cancer survivor. This is a cause near and dear to my heart.
