Hi!
Mondays always seem to move a mile a minute. This one is no exception! Some bakery stuff is flying onto the to-do list, and Matt and I had our weekly business lunch with Karen.
First, I biked to the gym and squeezed in Body Pump. I increased my weight again because…why not!?
I put THREE mediums on each side for a lot of the moves – and I sure am feelin’ it now!! Powah of the muscles.
Then I showered at the gym again (much more difficult than it sounds to type! Imagine the packing and unpacking it involves 🙂 ) But for a good reason – I met Matt and Karen downtown for lunch.
We went to Café Cubano where I got this tasty but measly lunch.
Half a sandwich – smoked salmon, tomatoes and cream cheese.
I asked them to hold the red onions, but I could tell they put them ON and then took them back OFF because I could taste them!! Not pleasant. Glad I’m not severely allergic!
The side salad left much to be desired 🙁 A handful of lettuce does not fill up an appetite!
However, since this was an earlier lunch than I normally eat, I wasn’t too hungry and didn’t mind the smaller portions.
After lunch I poked into a few boutiques looking for a birthday gift for my mom. Boy are boutiques expensive! I didn’t find what I was looking for.
–> Enter a bike ride home with a full bladder! <–
I came home to a bouquet of flowers!
Yesterday Faith and Tate gave us this broken-off door. I had a vision!
A little sawing [luckily our rented garage came with a power saw!]
A lot of painting
Turned into a nice chalkboard for our entry way! I have 3 more pieces to play with elsewhere in the house (or bakery!)
The design is Matt’s handiwork. He’s an excellent artist!
Very very excited about the nearly-free project!
And now – some hot tea needs to be consumed on this cloudy, colder day.
Bizzle says
Wowza. Matt is SO talented.
faith says
Nice chalkboard! I have a little chalkboard painting project of my own I’ve been meaning to get around to…you’ve inspired me to get my arse in gear.
Stefani says
Wow that is such a fantastic idea, I would have never thought of that. Was a great way to re-use and recycle. Matt is an excellent artist!
Stephanie @ Thorns Have Roses says
I LOVE chalkboard paint!! TOO cool. I would buy that…you know if it wasn’t REALLY chalk. 😉 What a great and thrifty idea. Love the t-shirt and freshly cropped hair too. 🙂
Anna @ Newlywed, Newly Veg says
Cute! I love fun, easy projects like that!
Freya (Brit Chick Runs) says
Matt is goood!!
I love how sensitive you are to onions – it’s like the princess and the pea, but with onions 😛
Jessica @ How Sweet It Is says
LOVE that idea!! I wish I was that creative. I stink at DIY stuff.
Val @ Balancing Val says
I have a hard time getting measly or bad meals.
Especially when I choose to spend my money at a smaller local business instead of say a Fridays or Applebees.
Recently, I went to local mexican place and got such bad food and service!! I was so angry I ended up making a mess of the table . . . I need to let it go 😉
How innovative with that chalk board!!
Carolyn @ Lovin' Losing says
Awesome idea! Looks great in your entryway.
Katy @ A Healthy Shot says
Great idea to make a chalkboard- it looks so cool on your wall 🙂 I wish I could find a gym nearby that offered BodyPump!
Cindy says
That chalkboard looks so fun! It looks like you’re having a good day 🙂
Chelsea says
What a fantastic idea about the chalkboard! Super cute.
I hate skimpy and unfulfilling meals too. Perhaps an afternoon snack is in order? 😀
Have a great day!
Ash @ Good Taste Healthy Me says
Wow! Good job Matt! Very cute.
Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife says
that is an awesome DIY project, Kath. You’re right, he is a great artist! Don’t you love the BodyPUMP afterburn??? I LOVE it. luckily I get it 3x(b/c I teach it) / week and it just makes me feel stronger 🙂 Yes, I hate lunches that have such stinky, small salads!!!
Heather (heathers dish) says
How cute!!! I love diy projects 😉
Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) says
Oh the chalkboard is GREAT! Wow you are just full of creativity!
“The side salad left much to be desired 🙁 A handful of lettuce does not fill up an appetite! “-
Amen to that! I hate it when restaurants think that 3 leaves should fill up a vegetarian/vegan when in fact…no, bring out a head of lettuce, please 🙂
melissa says
you make far better sandwiches!
Jumanah @ Healthy Living in the Middle East says
What a great idea! I thought it was a picture before you said it was a chalkboard. Matt is quite a talented artist!
Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat says
That is such a cute little craft project Kath, and a great use for the door! I know what you mean about showering at the gym… I pretty much never do it because I always end up forgetting something at home!
Kiran says
Love this chalk board idea 🙂 Matt is super talented!
Holly @ Couch Potato Athlete says
I love the idea of having a chalkboard near the front door.
And Matt is really talented!I would have left smudge marks all over the thing if I attempted something that detailed!
Ashley @ Feeding Ashley says
I love the chalk board! It’s so creative. I hate it when a place just takes off something you didn’t ask for.
Lauryn says
Dang! I bet you paid like 10.00 for that lunch too! I hate when restaurants do that! Anyways, what a sweet hubby you have and he is a wonderful artist!!! Very impressive!

Emma (Namaste Everyday) says

Melissa says
I love how creative you are! I need to start thinking outside the box more! I had a friend in college who had a wall in her kitchen painted with chalkboard paint & she would put menus up. Such a fun idea!
Sarena (The Non-Dairy Queen) says
I love fun art projects! Looks cute!
Stacey (The Home-Cooked Vegan) says
What a great idea 🙂 Don’t you hate it when a restaurant meal is crappy? One time I ordered a spinach salad with feta cheese, tomato and cucumber, and when they brought it out with a huge plate of spinach with a ONE small bite of feta cheese in the center! It cost me about $10 too! I haven’t gone back since.
Jen @ keepitsimplefoods.com says
Love the chalk board idea! I really want to put one up in our kitchen, but haven’t found anything I like. I didn’t realize there is chalk board spray paint out there! Thanks for the tip! Maybe I’ll make my own.
Kris says
Love the chalkboard picture!
Mom says
Love the chalkboard and the chalk drawing and the idea of rotating art with the help of willing artists and chalk!
Suzanne @ continuing my education says
ooo, i love that stuff, I used in on vases and it worked great!
Melissa @ HerGreenLife says
If you plan on biking while pregnant, get used to biking with a full bladder — that is the story of my life right now 😉
And that lunch looks super skimpy — I would not have been happy.
Ellie@fitforthesoul says
wowwwww that’s awesome! Great idea!! He IS a great artist! I love the contrast of black and light color of the wall 🙂
Lisa (bakebikeblog) says
What a brilliant arty idea!

Do I spy a ribbon in that drawing? Matt is so talented!
Natalie @ Will Jog For Food says
My friend hates a few foods and always says she’s “allergic” just in case!
Matt is such a great artist! What a cool idea to have a chalkboard painting 🙂
Jen says
I’m happy to hear that you are sticking with BodyPump even if you’re not totally in love with it – hopefully you are seeing some good results! I love that you’re pushing yourself on weight – so many people in my classes use the same weight for months or years. It’s maddening!
Love the new “artwork.” Great idea.
My co-worker is planning a trip to wine country and I sent her your travel posts about it. So funny that she ended up recognizing you from Davidson. Such a small world!
Hope all is well in C-Ville!
Heather @ Health, Happiness, and Hope says
Yikes, that is definitely a small-portioned lunch! Salmon tends to hold me over well, but that seems a little small for any Cafe to consider a “lunch.” At least it looks delicious!
What an awesome idea with the chalkboard! Cheap decoration that you can change up whenever you want cost-free.
Stephanie @ Walking my Talk says
How sweet that he drew flowers for you! What a doll.
Katie @ Nourishing Flourishing says
I love that project! (And I cannot get enough of your haircut — so cute 🙂 )

I can open your page now!! Wahoo! I love the chalk-board idea…very cute!
Baking 'n' Books says
Yeah, the page takes a while loading! But it happens with a lot of the bigger blogs – I think it’s the content 🙂
Whenever I come back from anywhere – I am busting in the door having to pee!! It’s PAINFUL! Literally.
Sarah @ OneLoveSarah says
so cool! I love anything chalkboard!
Angela (Oh She Glows) says
I might have to steal your chalkboard idea…SO MUCH FUN!!!!

staceyhealthylife says
Wow Matt’s a really good artist. I have a chalk board but only have a grocery list on it. I’m not artistic at all so I’m very jealous.
Deb W. says
love your new hair!
Mary @ Bites and Bliss says
That’s awesome!! I actually almost painted a whole wall in my room with chalkboard stuff just so I could change the scenery whenever I wanted. 😛 I love the smaller paint squares, though! That’s a much better idea 🙂
j says
It was cold here today, too. Where oh where is spring?
rebecca lustig says
you’re so handy! I would have ended up in the hospital. with cut fingers and toes.
Tina says
Wow, what a great and easy project! I love it. I did something similar with some free supplies this summer for a farm stand I put together. Chalkboard paint can be so fun!
Kori says
That lunch does look small. The meal looks like an appetizer instead of an entree. Your DIY artwork is awesome!! Oh and your hair looks great! 🙂
Hannah says
Token lettuce as “salad” always makes me laugh. Some of us like veggies for the taste, not for the psychological effect of feeling we’re being healthy 😛
Chelsea says
Matt is so talented…I smell an Etsy shop coming! J/K! So glad that Great Harvest stuff is coming along. Today my husbnad and I drove past our Great Harvest here in Bozeman, and he was like “oh they have deli by that Great Harvest”….and I was so offended! I was like “Um, no…..they make sanwiches there!” LOL!! I guess I feel like I am part of the GH family! And…sounds like Body Pump is making you stronger!
KathEats says
Haha – family!
chelsey @ clean eating chelsey says

Stephanie @cookinfanatic says
What a fun project, that picture looks great Kath!
Ashley says
So cute!! I definitely want to do something in the house with chalkboard paint..possibly the kitchen so I can scribble down ideas. Today, I was about to throw 5 paint cans away, but at the last second was thinking…maybe I can reuse these! So I saved them. 🙂
Alaina says
What a great idea with the boards!! So creative. 🙂

Kayli (Running on Sunshine) says
the chalkboard art is awesome, but I can’t take my eyes off the spectacular paint colors in your house! I love your taste in home decor 🙂
Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin says
Bummer about the small portions! It sucks leaving a restaurant still hungry. 😛
But on the plus side that chalkboard looks amazing! I love little DIY projects like that.
Jason @ Shutter & Saute says
Love the painting! Did you just use regular black spray paint? I didn’t realize chalk would hold.
KathEats says
Yup! Just the spray paint kind 🙂
Stacey says
We just painted our laundry room with Chalk Board paint this weekend! Tonight we can prep it and start chalkin’ it up! So exciting! Love the idea you had too. So inexpensive and you can change the look with the seasons or your mood!
Kayla (Little Miss Healthify) says
