Good evening! Hope y’all had lots of Labor Day fun. Our day was quite relaxing.
|Thismuch| labor was done. | T H I S M U C H | playing was done.
After a bit of work, we set out on foot to the UVA grounds where we met up with two new blog-reading friends!
Heather + Erin
Both are grad students. Heather actually lives in the cool East Range. I’m sure of the technical description, but consider it a cross between a historic house and a dorm room. Creative juices MUST flow in such a cool space 🙂
The purpose of our date, other than to become friends, was obviously to seek Arch’s.
Today I bypassed the gooey brownie and got the tart flavor (Arch’s only has a few flavors on draft and this was the first time I’ve tasted the tart there) with granola. Both were impressive!
Matt got this peanut butter chocolate bad boy. I had a few tastes of peanut butter nougat!
We walked back home (a total of 3 miles round trip) in the bright sun to settle down for an easy dinner a bit later.
A lentil salad made of staples and leftovers:
"Fall Is Coming" Lentil Salad
The Mix included in various forgotten measurements:
- Freshly cooked brown lentils
- Red quinoa
- Butternut squash cubes
- Grilled zucchini
- 1 whole raw apple
- Walnuts
- 2 dates
- Curry Herb Yogurt Sauce (same as I made last week, it was that good.)
- Sea salt
It was filling and awesome! I only wish we had leftovers of the leftovers :*(
After dinner I watched the movie Remember Me with Robert Pattinson
I cannot believe:
1) That he is Cedric Diggory [Matt informed me of this tonight]
and
2) That he is 4 years YOUNGER than I am!
Craziness.
The movie was poignant (I always use that word to describe movies) and the ending was particularly so. I enjoyed it.
I believe Matt’s brother Andrew is stopping by to sleep here for just a few hours on his way from DC to Charlotte. Better go make the bed!
Wendy @ Seriously Sassy says
Fall is coming! Fall is coming! Ahhhhh, finally!!!
That lentil salad looks lovely, as do your new blog-reader buddies.
Glad you had a nice Labor Day. 🙂

Paige @Running Around Normal says
You and Matt impress me so much with your meals! Each meal is so creative – nothing ever seems slopped together. And if it is, the ingredients are phenomenal!
Chelsea @ Strawberry Sweat says
That meal just LOOKS like fall! I especially love that leaf plate!
Heather says

I have yet to see that movie.
holly @ couchpotatoathlete says

I love the lentil salad on the leaf plate. You definitely have me craving fall!
Stacey@http://stacey-healthylife.blogspot.com/ says
Love the plate. The foyo with all the granola looks good. I don’t know if I could have passed on the brownie batter one.

I just saw Remember Me also. Poignant is a good adjective to describe it.

Sarena (The Non-Dairy Queen) says

UVA’s campus is so gorgeous. We studied it in my Architecture 201 class. I’m hopefully visiting it during my Spring Break! 🙂
Kaitlyn (College Girl Runs) says
I LOVE Robert Pattinson (mostly because he is Edward Cullen lol) and have been meaning to see that movie! I remember the night my roommates came home after they had seen it, and they were like in another universe talking about life and stuff. It’s crazy that he is Cedric Diggory! I can’t believe he has been in in HP series and The Twilight Saga!
Kaci Higgins says
That plate is sooooo cute! My sis and I saw some like that at Wal-Mart recently and took all that I have to not just buy up a whole set! 😉 The food also looks fantastic! You always make me crave frozen yogurt. lol

You didn’t know he was Cedric? *sigh* I’ve been swooning for him SINCE he’s been Cedric. I remember one of my best friends in HS coming over and we would watch *only* the Diggory scenes! Mmmm!
Gosh that dinner deserves an “Mmm” too….shame about the leftovers!
lynn (The Actors Diet) says
love your fall salad on the fall plate! i met robert pattinson right after he played cedric diggory. we sat next to each other at a cafe and talked for a while – he was smoking a cigarette and i kept thinking he was too young to smoke.
Kath says
You are so famous to sit next to these people!!

ooooh, cute plate kath!
i’m in love with your combo, it sounds delicious!
Hannah says
Raw apple and dates with quinoa and yogurt sauce… that sounds amazing. Sweet and nutty and savoury and creamy and crunchy… heaven!
Melissa says
I watched that over the summer and I too enjoyed it. Great story line, but sad.
Sana says
I put a yogurt sauce on all my meals ( it’s totally an Indian thing) and I loveee it!
amy says
Ahhh, isn’t it crazy now that actors are YOUNGER than us?! I remember when I was 15 and they were 19-23 and I thought they were soooo much older and cooler and now WE’RE the older ones!
Penny says
Remember Me is one of my most favorite movies.
Robert Pattinson is a really great actor. Can’t wait for ‘Water for Elephants’ to come out.
Caylyn says
I’ve been following your blog for a couple of years now, and just had some good friends moves to Charlottesville. So I had to share this because you both moved to C-Ville, and you’re both RD’s! Randy Bird is the new sports nutritionist at UVA. He came from KU, and we miss him and his family.
Kath says
Oh fun!!
Kristen @ Kristen, Sweetly says
Remember Me was poignant… I’m glad you enjoyed it! I liked bits of it a lot, but I wish they would have advertised it more accurately. It was not what I had in mind to watch that day, and my mom and I both left very disappointed.
I think it’s so neat you’re that close to a campus, and can head over just for walking around. I visited my old campus on Friday, and was flooded with just how lovely the atmosphere is. I wish I could be there always.
Laura (Blogging Over Thyme) says
Did you see or hear that Iron Chef’s new episode on Saturday night was battle oatmeal??! You would have loved it. I wrote a recap on my blog, but they made risotto out of steel cut oats, as well as oat pasta. So cool!
christina @ ilovefetacheese says
Oh my gosh, I wish I saw this!!!!!!!!!!
Kaci Higgins says
I watched the entire show and then right before the tasting and judging my freaking cable went on the fritz!! 🙁
Mallory@ Untie the Ribbons says
Love, love, love the leaf plate!
christina @ ilovefetacheese says
best.plate.ever. I HEART FALL and everything about it!
Sava says
That leaf plate is absolutely adorable!
It seems like every time I look at blogs I have a craving to go out and buy new dishes or cutting boards!
Or make food that I am already too full to eat! 😛
Darn food bloggers.
Carrie says
Whoa…whoooooa, had *no* idea that he is Cedric too. That just blew my mind. And it means I need to watch HP again for a refresh.
Freya (Brit Chick Runs) says
Oh I adored Remember Me! It’s one of my favourite films ever I think 😀
Love the lentil salad!
Marina says
That dinner sounds pretty yummy.
Uh, robert…I just can’t stomach him :/
Neen @ Broad Bean to Runner Bean says
i LOVE your plate! and i love whats on it, it looks yum!
Marika says
Cedric Diggory is my favorite role of Robert Pattinson’s, because Harry Potter rocks :-). And I also can’t believe how young he is!
Lauren says
The fall-inspired salad looks delicious, and I LOVE the leaf plate :). Autumn is by far my favorite season of ’em all and I cannot wait for crisp weather, pumpkin baked goods, and sweaters!
I really enjoyed Remember Me. Rob Pattinson is a great actor – I don’t think his role in Twilight allows him to illustrate his full acting potential. Remember Me really was quite poignant, as you wrote.
Lauren says
Rob Pattinson, I feel like I just saw a movie with him in it. I think it was with Demi Moore? Regardless, a good actor but Remember Me was not my favorite. I agree with your review!
Erika @ Food, Fitness, & Fun says
What a cool mix of ingredients! Never would’ve thought of that combo… 🙂
Lauren at KeepItSweet says
yum, love your fall dinner mix!
Sara @ myfancytuna.blogspot.com says
LOL my roommate’s boyfriend was totally shocked to hear that Edward Cullen = Cedric Diggory. His mind was completely blown.
Remember Me was actually okay, in my opinion…it showed me that Rob Pattinson does have some acting chops. Glad you had a good Labor Day!
Kim says
Looove that leaf plate!!!! 😀
Kath@eatingforliving says
The leaf plate is adorable. 🙂
Emily Eats and Exercises says
Your lentil salad sounds amazing – lots of ingredients I love. How did you prepare the butternut squash? I love squash, but so often I get to impatient to cook and cut it. I also might have to try figs again – I agree with your comment the other day about the texture – I couldn’t quite get past that…
Kath says
We baked it a few nights ago
Simply Life says
what a fun fall plate!
Lindsey @ Gingerbread Bagels says
The froyo with the granola looks so tasty. I love your leaf plate, it’s so pretty. 🙂

Haha I had a huge crush on Robert Pattinson when he was Cedric Diggory. Now? Not so much. 😛
Jillian@ ReshapeYourLife says
I saw that movie in Blockbuster and decided to pass it up, maybe next time I won’t. 🙂
whitney says
The Fall Lentil Dinner looks great. Yogurt always makes grains taste extra good.
I miss Arch’s so much! It truly is the best… nothing tops gooey brownie though.
Beth @ swimbikerundc.blogspot.com says
Ooh, Arch’s!! I lived off their yogurt + brownie batter for four years 🙂 I miss UVA and Charlottesville.
Colleen says
I didn’t know that he played Cedric either! I do remember thinking how cute Cedric was though while I was watching the movie, heeheehee.
Kelly says
I’ve been digging curried yogurt right now too but haven’t added garam masala to it yet. Must try soon!
