It’s been way too long since I’ve been to yoga!! Emily and I decided to hit up an early morning class so we could get a dose of Tanner, and get our workout complete before the sunrise.
I went to Tanner’s 6:30-7:30 class. Amazing. Something about getting up to go to hot yoga is a million times easier than getting up to go to the gym!!
Before I left I had an unphotographed bite of banana and swig of coconut water 🙂
Then I sweated my heart out.
Emily and I convinced Tanner to put an opaque shield on the showers because they were totally see-through before and we were too shy to use them. Thankfully he rocks and listened to our request, and now we feel safe showering after class 🙂
I headed directly to work after my shower, hunting down a coffee on the way, and then enjoyed these overnight oats at my desk….er, chair…our office is too small for an intern desk!
The Mix
- 1/3 cup raw old fashioned rolled oats
- ~1/2 cup Voskos plain low-fat yogurt (so silky!)
- 1/3 cup skim organic milk
- 1 tbsp chia seeds
- Pinch salt
- Sprinkle Cinnamon
- Half banana
- Handful blackberries
Topping: A new find!!!
PECAN PIE BUTTER!
Open Sky hunted this down for me when I asked my personal shoppers to find some more interesting nut butters.
It tastes like LaraBar meets pecan butter. And made a perrrrrrfect oat topping!!!
Coming soon to my shop
If I wasn’t a blogger, I would probably do a lot more early morning gym trips with breakfast to-go to eat at work. But alas, these days I’d rather settle for a gourmet breakfast at home and a workout in the afternoon on most days.
Have a great day you guys!
megan says
um, wow, that pecan pie butter looks good! How is it so much lower in calories than regular peanut butter?
Rose-Anne says
I think it’s because the serving size for the pecan butter is 1 tbsp. Peanut butters usually say that 2 tbsp. is a serving size 🙂 But off the top of my head, I don’t know the nutritional information for pecans. I just know they are delicious!
Cathy Breit says
Even with 2 T. size of pecan butter it would only add up to around 86k…most nut butters clock in around 200k for the same size serving….i would assume the reason for the lower calories would be mostly due to the fact of the other ingredients..dates, for example, are a carb rather than a fat, and less calorie dense…
Freya @ Brit Chick Runs says
Woah that pecan pie butter sounds amazing!!! I want to try making some at home 😀
Have a good day!
Brittany @ A Healthy Slice of Life says
Pecan Pie Butter?? I’ve got to find that before fall gets here… how is it so low in fat?
Samantha Angela @ Bikini Birthday says
Oh yeah, you NEED a shower after hot yoga! It’s great that now you feel comfortable doing it!
melmo says
this looks so good i definitely have to try it as well. yum yum.
Jessica @ How Sweet says
I jsut made my own pecan butter last night! It is so delicious. Pecan butter might be my fave!
Robyn @ Frugal 'n' Fit! says
Opaque shower curtains in a public shower: It’s a good thing! <– as Martha Stewart would say!
Pecan Pie Butter? The world of nut butters just keeps improving!
Veggielady4life says
That nut butter looks great. The kcal are low compared to regular nut butter… or peanut/almond butter at least. Aren’t they more like 90-100 kcal per T? I wonder why that one is lower…
Hannah says
Oh. My. Heavens. Pecan pie butter? Sometimes I think I should stop reading your blog because it’s way too painful to read from here in Australia…
M says
What will you do to replace Tanner in your new city?
(and will you introduce Caitlin to your fave yoga dude?!)
😉
The 50 Best Health Blogs says
Gosh, I’ve been reading your blog for a while, and I didn’t even notice until now that you had an online shop. I’m going to have to explore it.

Sarah says
That nut butter looks so good! I’m excited to see it in your shop. I feel like I *have* to buy some!
Kath says
The lower calories are because it’s probably 50% dates so the carbs lower the fats (4 kcal/g instead of 9 kcal/g)
Sarena (The Non-Dairy Queen) says
I love my early morning workouts! So much better than the afternoon! I love making pecan butter. It really does taste like pecan pie without all the goo! Sounds like you started this Wednesday off with a bang! Enjoy the rest of your day!
maxinthegym says
pecan pie butter? holy shmoozie I need to get me some of that!
A Teenage Gourmet (Sami) says
Oh Kath, you really know how to hook an audience! And speaking of pie for breakfast, I finish off my strawberry galette. 🙂 Have a good day.
Karla says
I’ve always been to shy to shower at the gym too! I don’t know how some ladies are so comfortable walking around naked!
Rachel says
Your “If I wasn’t a blogger…” remark was interesting to me, partly because I am not a blogger myself and, perhaps not so coincidentally, I eat overnight oats almost every weekday. (My thanks for the overnight oats tip are long overdue, but… thanks for the tip!) I’ve wondered occasionally what sort of trade-offs one would have to make in order to post as frequently, and with such appealing photographs, as you do. Are there any others?
Kath says
It would probably only be food related things. Probably a lot more boring canned soup meals! Although I dont’ know, I don’t really try that hard for the blog. But it is motivating to be more creative in the kitchen.
Cynthia (It All Changes) says
I wish I had more energy for those kind of yoga sessions. And I wish our local studio had hot yoga. I’m so jealous.
Kristin @ Iowa Girl Eats says
omG!!! Pecan Pie Butter?!
I adore the Pecan Pie Larabars, so this sounds right up my ally. Can’t wait til it hits your shop, I think I’ll definitely be buying!!
Katie says
Looking forward to trying that pecan butter.
You should see my gym where I swim. The senior ladies have water aerobics during my lap swim, and while there ARE curtains on the stalls, they…AHEM…decide not to use them and all decide to walk around the locker room buck naked having fun 5-10 minute conversations, usually trying to draw me in. At first, I was so embarassed FOR them but now I just laugh it off. And the things they talk about!…
Kath says
Ha!
Sarah @ cocoanutshakes says
That breakfast looks wonderful!!! Especially for someone who doesn’t quite like PB in oats….I know, terrible, but I think the pecan pie butter would be fantastic =).
I used to go to the gym in the mornings and try to PACK a gourmet breakfast…they always looked so sad and somewhat deflated when I ate them on the gym sofas haha.
AllieNic (Frisky Lemon) says
I wish I had a yoga studio close to me that did hot yoga in the AM…sadly, there are none. I’ve started doing my own little sun salutations in my living room in the mornings, but it’s not the same as having someone lead you through a class…
Pecan Pie Butter! Whodathunkit?! That looks like an awesome thing to try and make at home…
laine @ beets, butter and mountaintops says
That’s kind of creepy that you had to *ask* for opaque shower doors… I would figure those were a given in public places.
I do agree that getting up to go to yoga is much easier!
Kath says
Well they were opaque initially but still too see-through. Now they’re much better.
Stacey@http://stacey-healthylife.blogspot.com/ says
The pecan butter sounds pretty amazing and a nice topper. Isn’t it good to already have your workout in. I love that part.
Heather @ Side of Sneakers says

Stacy (StacyGrowsHealthy) says
Oh my that pecan pie nut butter sounds fantastic! I just got my nut butter trio in the mail, so I’m holding off on getting anymore until I finish a couple of the ones I have. My husband is very interested in the butter toffee nut butter!
Maya says
The yoga studio I attend is great, but they do the same thing with the showers! I have to leave class a little early and shower quickly before anyone else comes in because I just don’t know if I can throw myself out there like that, haha (I also sometimes leave a little early to beat traffic, but the shower thing doesn’t help!)
I love that the pecan pie butter is naturally sweetened, it looks amazing!
Kristin (Salty Tooth) says
Pecan Pie Butter? I must try!
JENNA says

Heather (Heather's Dish) says
pecan pie nut butter? does it get much better? i submit that it does NOT! what a fabulous mix of oats!
Michelle @ Give Me the Almond Butter says
If the Pecan Pie Nut Butter says its in kcal. Is that what “food calories” normally are automatically in? Or would it be 430 cal?
Kath says
Yes, kcal = normal calories
Dorry says
I’m going to have to try hot yoga in the morning – when I go at night, it energizes me too much and I can’t get to sleep! Pumpkin Pie Butter sounds like heaven!

I love the way hot yoga makes you feel in the morning…so refreshed and ready for the day. I haven’t gone in a while…I should make that happen soon!
Wei-Wei says
I agree with Hannah – I have never tasted almond butter before, and the only non-trans-fat PB I’ve ever had is my own. 🙁 I’ve never even tasted pecan pie itself before! Gosh. I am definitely missing out, aren’t I? 🙁
Why is the pecan pie butter so much lower in calories…? Is there a textural difference at all?
Wei-Wei
Nanette says
When you do your overnight oats what is the process? You leave them in the fridge overnight and then in the morning do you warm it up or eat it cold?

Mary @ Bites and Bliss says
AM yoga is the best! Even though you’re no where near as flexible as in the afternoon, it’s nice to get all the kinks out early in the day. Was this hot yoga or regular? I know you said you were sweating but even regular yoga can be a kick-butt workout
Kath says
Always, always hot!

There are few things better than yoga before work. I teach at 7:30am, so I have to book it to get there from my class and get rinsed off, but the rush is worth the trouble every Tuesday and Thursday….so is getting up at 5am.

Pecan pie butter sounds AMAZING!! I have to try that. YUMMM 😀

Hey Kath,
Can you purchase the pecan pie butter at a grocery store such as whole foods or trader joe’s? Or can you only order it online? Thanks!
Kath says
I think it’s a pretty new product and haven’t seen it in stores.
