Another fun day at the pool!! I finished both of my writing projects and was nice and sweaty for a swim. We both got in and splashed around. Played all the classic boyfriend + girlfriend games – surfboard, “I’m a bean,” sit-on-the-shoulders.
Newest pool game: Blog Categories!!!
Remember that game where you hold someone in your arms and pick a category and they have to guess what item in that category you’re thinking of? Tonight’s category turned out to be blogs! We were cracking up laughing the whole time. I must have gone through 30 blogs before I guessed correctly with Matt’s hint of “We’ve met her in person and she doesn’t live in Charlotte.” The flipping winner: Ghost World!
We wrapped up pool time around 4:30 and biked the 5-ish miles back home. My legs are tired! But going home is mostly downhill, so it was a ton easier than going there.
Then we packed up our picnic and headed to the symphony. All alone 🙁
We had blanket space for a dozen, but all of our friends seem to disappear on Sunday nights. Maybe they have some kind of underground club we don’t know about? I’m very confused…
So we were forced to drink this bottle of wine between us
A wonderful semi-dry red that my dad bought us on our mountain trip last year when we visited the winery. Couldn’t have picked a more perfect picnic wine!
I had a lovely glass
Then we unpacked our picnic.
Homemade lemon navy bean hummus. Can of navy beans, 2 tbsp navy bean juice, drizzle olive oil, juice of a whole lemon (KEY!), salt, dash Tabasco, small clove of raw garlic (Which I am annoyed by because I am fuming but it really did make the hummus better. Matt put it in without knowing it would give me the fumes!)
Dippers!! Loved these melbas
Leftover quinoa tabouli
Melons
My plate –
Plus a few more of these. We ate the ENTIRE batch of hummus and almost a whole box of melbas! But I have to say Matt did most of the eating!
Wine pour #2
And then we had some visitors!!
It’s not a picnic without bugs!
Lemon flavored ones, that is! My mom brought me these back in April and we forgot about them in our chocolate drawer! They made a perfect encore appearance tonight 🙂
The symphony was packed. I think I heard them announce 20,000 people!? And it’s free, although we always donate a little, per the suggested donation. But so nice they do this every summer. Tonight’s music included Harry Potter (!!), Phantom of the Opera and Pirates of the Caribbean – three of my VERY FAVORITE songs!!!
The weather tonight was perfect – the sun was hidden and it wasn’t too hot.
The sun. Has gone. To bed and so must Iiiiiiiiii…..

What a lovely night! I like Melba toasts, but I prefer those odd Scandinavian “crispbreads” that come in paper wrappings. They somehow taste healthier?
