Some days I wake up ready to tackle the kitchen – oatmeal, pancakes, french toast.
Other days I just wish breakfast were already made. Thus, cereal sounded good today!
And I opened a new one for extra excitement – Barbara’s Shredded Squares. Combined with blackberries, banana, chia seeds, coconut and milk.
Blob your sunflower butter off the spoon to find later in the bowl –
And then take the best first bite ever with the rest!
I found a new perfect blend for coffee concentrate – this makes it no longer a concentrate though!
Old: 4.5 cups water, 1 cup grounds = needed to dilute with water by 1/3 before drinking (sometimes)
NEW: 6 cups water, 1 cup grounds = perfectly mixed already
Have a great day!
Allie@LiveLaughEat says
How long does the concentrate have to sit/soak? And at what point does it not get any stronger? As in, it’s soaked up all the flavor…
KathEats says
I read 24 hours is ideal
KathEats says
But I think overnight would be just fine
Brittany says
The system we have recommends 12 hours. Not sure if any additional time matters?
Erica { EricaDHouse.com } says
Wow that cereal looks incredible!
Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat says
Hehe looks like you’ve got this coffee thing down to a science now Kath! Have an awesome day! 🙂
KathEats says
And probably a few weeks from now I’ll be off of it and onto hot drinks again!

SSB is my FAVORITE nut butter…so I am with you on the first bite being the best! 🙂
The Mrs @ Success Along the Weigh says
I’m about to dig into my bowl of deliciousness as well! Nothing like that first, best bite!!
Lindsey @ Pas de Deux says
Oh, I’ll have to try this new coffee to water ratio! I’ve found that I like cold brewed coffee warmed up better than coffee made with hot water…not sure why! The light on your porch this morning is gorgeous!
KathEats says
I think because the cold brew is less bitter : )
Brittany says
I’m the same way with breakfast – some days I feel like making something, but other days I just want to pour a few ingredients into a bowl. My go-to on days like that is yogurt with strawberry and banana slices.
We live on coffee concentrate over here!
Brie @ Coxswain Dilemma says
Sunflower butter is literally nature’s greatest gift to humanity.

First-time commenter, long-time reader: I was having a squiz through your pictures of your humble abode and I just have to say straight up, you are incredible. Your place is beautifully presented and has such charm, subtle elegance and ambiance, gosh I wanted to dive straight in and lounge around your living room! Besides that, your breakfasts also look divine even if they are just cereal.
Much love
KathEats says
Thanks for your comment Victoria!

I’ve never tried nut butter in my cereal… I should it sounds different haha
Kori says
We had almost the same exact breakfast! Wheat Chex, banana, blackberries, sunflower seed butter, coconut butter, cinnamon, and milk. Only I had hot coffee. 😉 Kaci and I will need to try this concentrate, though! She loves iced coffee, and I love it too but sometimes don’t feel like waiting for it to chill. Have a wonderful day, Kath!!
Grace @ Grace Dishes says
I need to start making coffee concentrate! I’ve made tea by letting it sit for hours. I wonder why I never thought to do the same with coffee. Love it!
Breakfast looks yummy!
Laura @ Sprint 2 the Table says
There is something awesome about a simple bowl of cereal with bananas on top. It was always my favorite growing up – with Special K or Cheerios and a spoonful of sugar. 🙂
Katharina says
Oh wow, a new box of cereal and a new coffee recipe! Sounds like an exciting morning. Hope you have a fun day! Love that metal straw.

Bananas + cereal always makes a great breakfast! I keep telling myself to try iced coffee in the morning, but I haven’t gotten around to actually doing it yet… Maybe I’ll try your method soon!

When I don’t feel like making breakfast, I microwave a sweet potato, put an over easy egg on top and eat it with some salsa!
KathEats says
That sounds like a delicious lunch to me 🙂 Wish I could do savory for breakfast!

Is it wrong that when I saw your title in my reader, all I could think of was SNL’s “D*ck in a Box”?? 🙂

Love the coffee idea! And I love the cereal. I think people don’t think about adding toppings to cereal. It’s so good.
Katie @ Talk Less, Say More says
Barbara cereals are probably some of my favorite! I wish they weren’t so pricey at the grocery store but thankfully I can usually find them at Trader Joes for cheaper and in bigger boxes. 😉
Kate S. says
But then you have to wash the press more often! No dishwasher=me making super super strong coffee concentrate so it lasts longer :).
Pam says
I love iced coffee served in mason jars too! So much FUN!! Been making the concentrate like that for some time too….the best! 🙂

I’ll have to try cereal one day for breakfast 🙂
I felt the exact same way this morning when I woke up lol but then I decided to try out a new breakfast porridge using quinoa and oat bran. It was good! Topped with sunflower butter…YUM!
Have you ever tried using different grains besides oats for your breakfast porridge?
KathEats says
I’ve used a bunch in the past – oat bran, 9 grain mixes, different kinds of oats, but I don’t really care for quinoa (I’m not a huge fan in general..)
Averie @ Averie Cooks says
glad you’ve found a more perfect coffee concentrate solution…coffee, I’m always tweaking it, too!

How do the shreddred squares compare to the orginial puffins? I always see them on the shelf, but I haven’t tried them yet.
KathEats says
Flavor wise, good. They are crunchier!
