‘Twas a dark and stormy night…
We had no [good] food in our house that sounded appealing. “Pizza!!” she exclaimed.
So they ordered a pie from a local joint – half cheese, half jalapeno on whole wheat crust!
Along with two salads:
They had a lovely picnic downstairs while watching a movie.
The husband had another trick up his sleeve – a carton of Breyer’s Mint Chocolate Chip! [She loved it]
Black Swan was…intense…and not quite as much of a story as they had hoped, but they both enjoyed it for its artistic presentation
Maria @ Sinfully Nutritious says
Pizza, salad and beer. YUM. Sounds like you are feeling better. I am glad! Everyone’s prayers worked. Enjoy your night…
Erin Motz says
Do you own any dishes that I will NOT like?! ;-] So pretty! I always find myself in Crate & Barrel looking for random bowls/mugs to add to my collection. Super fun.
Julie H. of Spinach and Sprinkles says
I would love a surprise like that from up the husband’s sleeve! Mmmmm! Now, I am craving some ice cream!
Kelly says
Ah, what a way to perk up a Wednesday! Black Swan was a little different than I expected too – but interesting nonetheless!
Ellie@Fit for the Soul says
Mmmm pizza sounds good on this chilly evening! And everyone says Black Swan is crazy and intense~I haven’t seen it, but I’m so curious what it’s about.
kelsey says
That is one of my favorite kinds of nights! Pizza and movie nights are the best – especially when you don’t feel so great. Hope you feel better soon!
Leah says
Cute post, hungry now for pizza Kath!
Kinley @ Better Off Barefoot says
I wanted to see that movie when it was in theaters but kind of got scared of how intense it sounded… probably good to have some ice cream along with it to help lighten the mood!?!
HRCK the Herald says
YUM, is that Christian’s Pizza??
Black Swan is SUPER intense…I left the theater all tensed up/edgy. Definitely not one for lazy watching!
KathEats says
It was Belmont Pizza! Not quiteeeee as good, but still good. I’d get the regular crust next time!
Kristen @ Change of Pace says
I say this all the time but your husband is so sweet! He’s a keeper for sure. I love spontaneous dinners like that. Almost like a date night at home because no one has to cook or clean up.
Jess says
Sounds like a lovely evening.
I have to admit—I appreciated Black Swan but it gave me some serious nightmares!
kaila@ healthy helper blog! says
I love when pizza joints offer whole wheat crusts!! SO yummy!
And mint chocolate chip is my favorite icecream flavor!!!!
Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga says
I haven’t had pizza in ages and you just gave me a craving. Sometimes saying in, watching some at home, and eating pizza with your honey is just what the doctor ordered. Glad you’re on the mend a bit!
kathleen @ the daily crumb says
yum! love pizza nights. complete with salad and beer of course.
have not watched black swan yet… it always just seems to intense for the moment!
kristen @ verbs and vignettes says
the breyer’s ending is all i would’ve needed for a happy ending. :p
black swan got me. even expecting crazy things, i was surprised with how they kept the movie going… and i’m normally down for off-kilter movies.
glad you made the most of the dark and stormy night! it’s raining, and i’m about to go curl up with the book i’m reading. i’m more than a little excited about it.
Jen says
Yes, perfect way to spend a Wednesday evening. Ordering in, pizza, ice cream, movie, handsome date – check! You’re lucky to have each other 🙂
Erika @ The Teenage Taste says
Sounds like a perfectly chill Wednesday night to me! I wish I wasn’t busy studying for the Chem test I have tomorrow – I’d be doing the same thing! 😛
Stacy @ Say It With Sprinkles says
I still have yet to see that movie! Not sure if I’ve just been avoiding it because of the dark/twisted factor or what! Pizza looks yum!
Mary Legare Whaley says
You should totally watch Black Swan. It’s definitely twisted, but it’s one of those movies that afterwards, you sit back and say: wow…wow. Just don’t watch it in the dark or alone. Of course, there was a slightly awkward moment that made me wish I was with girls and not my boyfriend. So watch with girls not in the dark. With wine. Wine is essential.
Ashley @ Coffee Cake and Cardio says
YUMMY!! Isn’t pizza the best. I like that y’all ordered jalapeno.
Sarena (The Non-Dairy Queen) says
Sounds like a perfect night to me!
Katie @ Peace Love and Oats says
Haha that’s how i describe the movie, a great artistic film
lynn @ the actor's diet says
i got really excited that your blog post was going to be about “party down,” one of my favorite tv shows! by the way – if you haven’t seen it, it’s on netflix instant!
emily says
Jalapeno as a pizza topper, say what? I adore jalapenos, I’m so sad I’ve never seen that option on a pizza menu! Only canned though; I got a veggie sandwich with fresh jalapenos on it the other day and spent 1 bite eating and 3 bites crying before I had to peel them off and admit defeat.
KathEats says
It’s our favorite topping!
Dominique says
We had pizza (pep on whole wheat) for dinner tonight too! There was a special going on while we were grocery shopping so we couldn’t say no.
Black Swan was intense. I agree that the storyline wasn’t as strong as I had hoped but it was nicely done.
Cait's Plate says
Sometimes a pizza + salad night is just the absolute best. Especially when consumed on the couch!
Totally agree with you about Black Swan – I left with a pit in my stomach after seeing it!
Jessica says
I think pizza, pop (I don’t drink) and salad are a match made in heaven. This supper.sounds.awesome. Hope you are back to feeling great again!
Mary Legare Whaley says
I’ll be honest…I was shocked when I saw you only watched the first half of Black Swan the other day! There is no way I could’ve stopped halfway through that movie. Granted, I watched it at our small theater that usually just shows independent films, and they sell wine and craft beers in their concessions, but I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. I always prefer comedies, but I like to be surprised and caught off guard. This one did it for me. It was definitely twisted…but I sat there with my boyfriend at the end during the credits, and both of us were like: “Wow…umm…wow…” But you’re right. “Intense” is a good word to describe that film! I always thought ballet was shady…
Tracy says
I actually watched Black Swan in two different sittings. The first night I just couldn’t stand it anymore…too intense, weird, dark…so I gave up and went to bed. The next day I couldn’t stop thinking about it! I had to finish it and I’m glad I did. It was very well done and incredibly acted.
Gina @ Running to the Kitchen says
I love pizza nights 🙂 We haven’t had one in way too long!
Kathy W. says
the first thing I thought when I read your post last night was “that’s a pretty intense movie to watch when you’re feeling sick!”
Glad you’re feeling good enough to eat pizza!
Kerry @ Totes My Oats says
That pizza looks uh-may-zing !!! I absolutely love a whole wheat crust… so much more texture and flavor!
Cosmos says
You’re human after all! I am so relieved. You’re always so diligent about eating good food and cooking at home. I thought I clicked on a different blog until I saw the picture of Matt.
And who knew you could have jalapenos as a pizza topping? Can’t wait to try that.
Christine @ BookishlyB says
I appreciated it for the work Natalie Portman put into the training; she’s not usually my favorite, but I give her total props for this role.
Khushboo says
I wasn’t much a fan of Black Swan- too dark a movie for me!
Sarah (I Dream of Beets) says
What a cozy night! How I long for a movie night! Off the internet and back to grading papers. Oy.
Lexi @ Cura Personalis Foodie says
Comfort food at its finest! Pizza, as my family and friends have decided, is the one food that can be eaten hot, cold, in any form, etc and still be absolutely delish.
Molly @ RDexposed says
Black swan is in my queue! Thanks for the intensity prep.
Christie says
Yum! Sometimes you just have to order pizza – an easy quick and delicious treat.
Kelly @ Vegolosophy says
Yea, Black Swan was definitely more intense than I expected. It did have some great artistic aspects too it tho! The meal looked like a great cozy movie meal 🙂
Susan H. @ The Food Allergy Chronicles says
Our pizza and movie night is always Friday night…the best night of the week! The kids wait for it all week…me too! Don’t think Black Swan is a kids movie…might have to pass on that one.
Rebecca @ Naturally Healthy and Gorgeous says
I wish more pizza places had whole wheat!
Lauren @ What Lauren Likes says
I haven’t seen Black Swan yet! Glad you had a fun night 🙂
Angela @ Happy Fit Mama says
Salad, pizza, beer, ice cream and a movie…mmmm. Some days you just need a meal and night like that!
Hillary says
You just made me realize that I’ve never had jalapenos on my pizza before. I’ve been missing out big time!
Karen says
Stormy nights just scream pizza and movie – though Black Swan wouldn’t have been the first movie to pair with a cozy night. I appreciated it too, but didn’t thoroughly enjoy it.
Lauren @ Oatmeal after Spinning says
Gotta agree with the masses: pizza+beer+salad= best combo ever. But, I can’t even remember the last time I had take-out pizza, and we have a few good places near us.
And Breyer’s ice cream? It really is the best. I’m a sucker for Natural Vanilla!
Em (WIne and Butter) says
You have no idea the sort of looks you would get if you tried to order a WW crust in the UK :). On the upside its inspired me to master a flax crust of my own… downside is a lot of the time I dont bother… 😉
I love pizza nights with husbands (or partners, or friends). They always equate happiness to me! 🙂
Sarah@The Flying ONION says
This is the best kind of a night! Pizza, beer, movie (and salad!) What’s not to love about that?
I agree. Black Swan was intense and I didn’t like it quite as much as I was hoping I would. But still very artistic. 😀
Kelsey says
I spy an africa spoon! swoon!
Allison says
Pizza enjoyed in front of the TV is our Sunday night tradition! Lovely way to relax and unwind… WW crust and jalapeño sounds delic! Never tried jalapeños on pizza- do they give it a big kick?
Angel7 says
Gotta love pizza–quick, easy and delish!!! We order pizza at least once a week.

I don’t watch many movies, but I saw that one opening night, and it was amazing! So suspenseful and psychological!
Michelle @ A Healthy Mrs says
I think we’ll be having a similar night tonight — nothing like a winter storm to make you want to stay inside and order in! 🙂
Vanessa Miller says
Looks delicious to me!
Shaun @ snackasaurusrex says
I love quiet, simple evenings like this! Glad you mentioned that about the Black Swan. We left that moving thinking that perhaps we were not artistic enough for that movie.
JenATX says
love pizza date nights! i am a very social person & usually prefer to go out but sometimes being cozy at home sounds just right 🙂
