These past two days have left me exhausted! Between my normal workload periods of sitting, I’ve been exerting myself in some major nesting, errands, appointments, and other on-my-feet things. I think I need to just sit on the couch for a day to recuperate. Or wear orthotics while I’m up! I’m one of those who has trouble sitting still for too long, and I think my body is just plain out tired these days from carrying around extra weight and working on fattening up the baby these last few weeks at the same time!
Nevertheless, you guys told me that if I could still go to Body Pump and go on hour walks I didn’t deserve a special parking spot, so I passed this sign on by and parked in the regular one!
Between Amazon.com and Babies R Us, we now have everything we need for our bundle of joy to arrive!! It was so fun to pick out the last things. I’m going to do a feature post on BERF next week on the final items we bought. I just have a load or two of laundry to do and a hospital bag to pack and we are ready with a month to go!
I also ran to Motherhood Maternity to pick up a few nursing camis. I checked Target and their stock was terrible, then searched the internet and found lots of bad reviews. I should have just started with Motherhood! I’ve had nothing but great experiences in that store. Today they were buy-3-get-1-free!! Score!
Now could someone please explain to me the proper positioning of this triangular piece of fabric!? I can’t quite figure out where it goes…on the side? Up the middle? Underneath!?
Part of the reason my legs are beat this evening is because we walked downtown for Fridays tonight!
Per usual, we wanted to pack a dinner to enjoy there. Matt said he is tired of “stupid bean salads in tupperware” so his idea was eat-in-the-hand calzones!!
Quite genius if you ask me ; ) He made the dough at the bakery today with his typical whole wheat crust. [FYI, I just updated the recipe with volume and a much easier-to-follow method!!]
Stuffed inside was homemade tomato sauce, green pepper, fresh tomato and cheddar cheese!
Allow Matt to show you how we ate them:
It looked huge, but it was also thin, and I ate nearly the whole thing!
Saved a little room for a treat Karen brought by – a baked peach wrapped in bacon and stuffed with goat cheese! Maybe if we wait patiently she will post her recipe method in the comments
Dark clouds loomed, but that meant a nice breeze and cooler temps! We hung around with our friends Rob and Seamane until my legs gave out and we walked home.
Now about that couch!!
Katelyn says
LOVEEE the chevron 😉 When I saw the calzone on Instagram I literally DIEDDD. Give me carbs now.
Ashley @ Coffee Cake and Cardio says
Neal and I were just talking about those expected mother signs. I think they’re great. Have a wonderful weekend! Sleep well.
Lisa says
On the side!
KathEats says
Haha – i had to go back to my post and think “What does she mean?!”
Ahhhh – ok, so kind of like a sling – down the side and then under?
Cindy says
Yep! It holds the strap up while the front is unclipped.
Laura says
Okay, I must have been using it incorrectly, but I always put that piece of fabric over my nipples! I thought that it was so the nipples didn’t poke out of the cami. Maybe it has multiple purposes….
Leslie says
You earned the right to park in that spot! LOL. Next time you go you might not qualify… I say go again and take your rightful spot. Looks like all you guys need now is a baby boy.
Have a relaxing night.
Leatitia @ The Sweetest Year says
The triangle goes on the side! 🙂 It helps keep the cami in place while you’re nursing. Cute finds!
Esse says
Wow – that peach – how yummy does that sound! Love to try it if Karen will share the recipe.
Brie @ Coxswain's Dilemma says
This post makes me very happy because some of my favorite things are included – calzones and bacon! Man, that makes me sound really American. Ah well, not a bad thing (especially considering our total domination in the Olympics!).
kristen @ verbs and vignettes says
hahaha. yeah, go for the spot only if it would make you laugh. coming from a pump class and parking close to the door. but it’s true! it’s there for YOU, missy.
your friday out looks like a blast as usual. I almost passed on going out with my dad, but the thunder was a fake-out, and it only rained a few minutes.
I am with you on the couch pass out. I just crawled into bed for a little party of five before I shut off the lights. happy weekend!
elizabeth says
You certainly don’t look tired, you look great!
Thanks for the crust recipe, I’ll give it a try.
Alison says
Awesome idea! The calzones look so yummy. Good for you for not parking in the “Stork Parking”!
Andrea says
I know you’ve probably said it before, but how do you pronounce Seamane? I’ve always wondered!
KathEats says
sha-mane 🙂
Julia H. @ Going Gulia says
These downtown Friday events look so fun. Any chance there are any special weekly events that happen on Tuesdays or Wednesdays? I’m visiting C-ville on those days in a few weeks!
KathEats says
maybe, but not likely as big 🙂
Erin @ The Grass Skirt says
I just placed a huge Motherhood Maternity order about 5 minutes ago. I love their things! FYI- no tax for SC until Sunday and their t-shirts are buy one, get one 50% off (most of them anyway). I also got my hospital pajamas since they were very highly rated. 🙂
Maria says
Ha ha ha, “stupid bean salads in Tupperware”! I dont know why I am still laughing about this, Matt seems hilarious. I also kept meaning to tell you that I hope have such a handy and helpful hubby one day! He cooks these amazing things and that beautiful garden and whatever else. Nice! 🙂
And p.s. you park wherever you please, you deserve it.
Alicia says
The target nursing tanks are my absolute favorite! I wear one every day. 🙂 Yours are cute though!
Katie says
Um, WHO told you that you didn’t deserve to park in the spot for expectant mothers? Shame on that person! If you feel like parking there, you should park there! Certainly now since you only have a few weeks left!
Averie @ Averie Cooks says
buy 3 get 1 free on anything is a great deal and you will go thru so many camis and bras – things just leak, get spit up upon, spill, post partum sweats; never changed shirts so many times as i did in the early days (and no one ever told me all of this) so just my way of saying, your 4-some of cami’s will come in handy!
Alice says
Hey, I think we’re in your second picture of the crowd! I liked the clouds tonight; they kept our toddler (and us) from getting too cranky and hot. Your dinner looks good!
KathEats says
really!? did you see us?
Alice says
No, we were further back in the grass 🙂
Caitlin says
YESSSS I’ve been wanting this recipe for a while but have been to lazy to search for it!!
Looks delish- DIED when I saw the calzones on Twitter (Insta?… one of the two…).
I say park in that spot! Because you are staying so active, take the break of a closer spot when you can!
Jennifer says
I love the Target nursing camis. I wore them every day under every shirt I wore for ~14 months x2 kids. To be fair, I’ve only tried the Bravado ones and the Target ones. I did not care for Bravado.
Don’t forget to pack one in your hospital bag, it’s nice to wear it under the gown so you don’t feel totally naked when you have guests.
The fabric goes around the edge of the outside of your boob (not over it at all). So when you unclip the panel you don’t lose your strap. Any nursing bra or cami that doesn’t have that connection when you unclip it is useless because you immediately lose the strap.
Julie H. of Spinach and Sprinkles says
You’ve got some goods- for both you and baby! …..The chevron boppy- AWESOME!!! Where did that come from & how on earth have I missed it??? (I’m assuming it has shown up in other posts… I just LOVE it!)
Enjoy the couch!
KathEats says
Etsy! just the cover. from kidzcraft.
Pamela says
that peach looks divine!
Angel7 says
A calzone sounds great!!!
I want one of those baked peaches wrapped with bacon & stuffed with goat cheese — the best of both sweet & savory worlds 🙂
http://faithfulsolutions.blogspot.com/
Ruth says
Mmmm. That peach looks amazing! Bacon makes everything better.
Khushboo says
Stupid bean salads- haha! The calzones look great!
Leslie says
Matt really is a genius. I came home tonight after a girls night, to find that my hubby had made bbq chx pizza on the grill for himself and our teenage girls. Made me proud! Hope you had fun tonight! I am about to have a major surgery so am trying to enjoy every moment of summer (your mom and I have talked about me doing a few guest posts after my experience, so stay tuned).
KathEats says
good luck
Erin says
don’t listen to everyone that’s telling you you’re not allowed to take the “expectant mother parking”, hello…you’re and expectant mother. If you feel like it, use it with no guilt 🙂 Those last few months of waddling can be cumbersome
Carrie says
Did you look into the Bravado nursing camis? I loved their bras so I decided to try a cami and it is really cute. Expensive so I only got one but you might check them out too.
KathEats says
where do you buy them? online I’m guessing?
janine says
I agree! those Bravado are the BEST ones, I wore them the last few weeks of pregnancy, and for a LONG time!!! so comfortable, well worth the money! I got mine online at Bravado…(I still get the emails, from them 3years later!) I also found a boutique online that sold them a tad cheaper! I like them better than target camis. Enjoy these last few weeks!!!
mary @ minutespermile says
baked peach with bacon?! that sounds good even though i’m writing this at 6:43 am.
Carrie says
Yes – http://www.bravadodesigns.com/ And google around for a coupon – I found free shipping and 15% off that helped a lot. The thing I like about it is that it has a very supportive bra inside. I can’t believe you are up so early – I slept terrible last night… 🙁
KathEats says
cool, thanks. yeah.. up at 6 wide awake! nap today?!
Michelle (Peachy Palate) says
I’m making a Calzone tomorrow for sure!!! Pure inspiration! That looks incredible I have to say and loving the peach…peach and cherries…it’s always a toss up! (though I’d opt for it without the bacon! 🙂 )
kate says
Were Rob and Seamane both Civil Engineers at UVa? Oddly enough my husband saw them walk by last night when we were downtown and swore he knew them from undergrad. It took me a minute to figure out I knew them from here!
KathEats says
Nope, not engineers! But fun you were there too
Ann says
I did not understand that sign at first … at the targets here in Canada and the mall there are “Expectant Mothers and Parents with Small Children” parking signs … and I was like – how could babies r us not include parents with small children on that sign?!
And then it hit me – probably because 99% of the people who walk into that store have babies with them – they would run out of close parking spots quickly! haha
Went into a babies r us for the first time two weeks ago to search for a baby shower gift – wow. WOW! What a place! So many cool and helpful things I didn’t even know existed!
Dannii @ Hungry Healthy Happy says
That is one huge calzone! I would have eaten the whole thing too 🙂
Megan says
ooh I see aden & anais swaddlers, I think. LOVE these.
And love Motherhood. I layer those tanks under shirts, pull up the top shirt, pull down the nursing tank, to nurse in public.
Jess says
Where did you get the adorable striped long-sleeve onsies?? They are too cute! I’m 20 weeks along and these would be perfect for a December baby 🙂 Thanks!!
KathEats says
Babies R Us – just got them yesterday. They were so American Appeal I had to get ’em!
Jess says
Thanks!! I can’t wait to pick these up!! 🙂
Nicole says
I missed out on the parking space debate, but it is my opinion that if you have a baby in your uterus you get to park in the special space–I don’t care how active you are!
KathEats says
Haha I like it!
Whitney says
Um couldn’t agree more! I missed the debate too but that is so absurd! Active while preggo or not take the space!! 🙂
Oh and I definitely lol’d at the “stupid bean salad in Tupperware”. Sounds exactly like something my hub would say 🙂
Cathy says
I agree. It made me sad that you missed the opportunity. At least once just to see how it feels with your car behind the sign.
Katie @ Peace Love & Oats says
Oooo those calzones look so good! I haven’t had one since going to Mellow Mushroom in college, I’d get the BBQ chicken!
elizabeth says
Just mixed up Matt’s pizza dough. Thanks for giving measurements in grams, as I prefer to measure that way when baking. I have both Diamond and Morton kosher salt and neither one of them were 6 grams at 1 1/2 t. What kind of kosher salt do you use? I just went with 1 1/2 t of Diamond.
KathEats says
Hmmm we use Morton’s. What grams did you end up measuring?
elizabeth says
On my scale, 1 1/2 t of Morton’s is 9 grams.
I’ll just experiment with the salt amount, once I taste the finished crust.
KathEats says
hmmm. I’d go with 6 grams over his volume
elizabeth says
Already mixed up the dough this morning, so I’ll try the full 6g next time. I’m not getting much rise during the ferment, I wonder if the dough should be rising more?
I’ve tried many different dough recipes and haven’t found one that works really well for me, yet. But, I’d rather eat “stupid bean salads” and only keep trying with the pizza because my husband really likes it.
Kristen Waby says
You look amazing in that photo! You are glowing and looking so proud. I can’t wait to hear updates on BERF!
Lisa says
Those spots are needed AFTER the baby arrives….especially if you have other children. We have some that are for “expectant mothers and new parents with children”. They have extra room on the side to wrangle your crew and get everyone situated, baby in the cart or stroller, hands held. I appreciate them being close because walking through a parking lot with children is anxiety-ridden as people fly down the aisles and pull out of spots without even looking. That’s when they REALLY come in handy!
Chamyli says
Have you tried/seen the Glamourmom tanks? I absolutely loved those!!! Kinda expensive – $50 I think each but totally worth it. I particularly loved the full bust tanks cause they had a bit of puckering/ruching in between the boobs so kinda drew attention away from possible drips or…..sorry for the tmi perky nipples if you aren’t using breast pads after awhile.
Fancy says
I have been nursing my daughter for 6.5 months and still have no clue to do with that triangle, lol
MommyPage says
It looks like you had fun shopping at Babies R Us! It must be fun to shop for your first baby. Also, those camis are adorable! You will look like a very fashionable mom in them. 🙂
