Y’all know I love a good bedding makeover! I’ve been on the bright white and neutral bedding band wagon for years. Last year when I discovered my favorite sheets (Target’s Threshold Performance Sheets) I ventured away from all white and got a few cute patterns. Lately I am digging darker, thicker, textured, moodier bedding when I see inspiration photos. Our bedroom is totally bland neutral in the wall, carpet, and bed colors, so the white/lighter bedding felt a bit blah to me in this space. I decided to take a risk with something dark.
I donated one of my duvet covers (I had two, a white one and a linen stripe one) to the Marsh House, and I earned some reward credits from my Pottery Barn card from helping my parents buy new beds. I put those reward credits and a 20% off code to good use and got myself a new D A R K and textured duvet cover!
Navy is one of our house accent colors. It’s classic and a bit nautical and hides stains well. (I’m looking at you, Gus!) So, I had been keeping my eye out for a navy blue duvet cover for a while. I checked Target, West Elm, and Crate and Barrel, along with Pottery Barn, but they didn’t have anything I loved at the time. Then I stumbled upon this Honeycomb textured cover and shams on sale a few weeks ago when Pottery Barn sent out a bedding email. (They know how to get ya!)
(I kind of like how the weight of the fabric + the buttons gives a scalloped edge look! ^)
The duvet matches the Target sheets so well. You can see the true color and texture here without the light shining so brightly. It is very heavy and cozy! (Speaking of sheets, Thomas HATED the flannel ones I bought from Target this winter. Not sure what to do with them since I can no longer return them. At least they were only $25! I might sneak them on a few times a year on the coldest nights.)
To brighten up the bed just a little, I added this Ashley Bird sham I found on clearance. I am also really into tropical florals right now! If I could have all the duvets in the world, I would buy this one and this one too. Our bedroom definitely needed some bright colors. I have been tempted to add an area rug over the blah carpet, but every time I have attempted it with a smaller rug, it just looks bad. Any suggestions?
Another dark blue update: jeans! Remember when I wrote this post? You guys were FULL of recommendations! It seems that the Old Navy Rockstars and the Madewell High Rises were the most recommended picks. I haven’t had a free day to go shopping yet, but I do have a new pair of high-rise jeans! You got a preview of them in this pic from the Luke Bryan concert:
Blog reader Savannah has opened Revive Clothing Boutique, an online store that focuses on American-made denim. Savannah writes: “Revive’s hallmark is American-made denim and the boutique strives to continually offer the best fitting jeans in on-trend silhouettes, at a reasonable price.” The boutique’s focus on American made supports the US economy, fairly paid workers, and a reduced carbon footprint. They also have tops, sweaters, and dresses. (I love this color block cowl neck!) I also love that they feature REAL models of all sizes! The code KATHEATS will get you 15% off anything at Revive!
Savannah sent me the Just Black Just Basic Ankle Skinny. What I loved about them most was the thick fabric. They are high-rise as promised, and they DO stay up way better than many of my low/mid rise jeans. The color is great as well!
To start my morning off extra cozy once I got out of that bed: eggs, orange, toast, and tea! (I switched to mint tea after my one cup of coffee.)
What kind of bedding style do you have?

I really do love using navy in interiors, too. AND wearing navy – it’s so easy to work into any outfit! 🙂

Nice bedding update! I tend to stick with whites and grays, mostly to make my apartment feel bigger and brighter, but I want to experiment more with color. Pottery Barn does always get you. If you leave something in your cart, they’ll almost always email you a discount code 🙂

I love the Target Threshold sheets. I have the same navy pattern which goes well with my comforter from IKEA which has navy, red, yellow. I too, have neutral wall and carpet but this comforter along with some accent pieces bring it to life.

We just have a plan white down comforter. I’d love some fancier bedding but with a dog that sheds who we let sleep on our bed there’s no point!
KathEats says
How do you keep your white white with a dog?! Gus turns everything white brown 🙁
Laura Swanson says
I use a little bleach each time we wash it. I’m sure it would look a little dingy if I held up a brand new white comforter to it though!
Mary says
I also purchased a darker duvet cover after years of white…my dilemma now is finding a duvet to use year round. I had been switching from duvet to bedspread in warm weather months, but I am not sure I want to do that anymore. Do you use yours year round?
KathEats says
I do because T loves a comforter, but I like a quilt in the summer
Sam @ Grapefruit & Granola says
I’m only 5’2″ and I have such a hard time finding jeans that fit me well. Womp Womp. Side note, my hair stylist was saying that you’re not supposed to wash jeans ever and you can put them in the freezer to kill bacteria.
KathEats says
Weird!! I can’t imagine never washing jeans
Savannah says
Hi! I’m Savannah, the owner of Revive! My moms is only 5’2” and she loves these jeans because they are intended to be ankle length. They are a bit below her ankle, but she doesn’t have to have them hemmed. Email me at [email protected] if you wouldn’t like help with sizing!
Tonya says
Just checked out your site….y’all got some nice stuff….I am going to email you about sizing. thanks!

If you want real quality bedding try The Company Store. I think Pottery Barn is so overpriced!
KathEats says
I love Company Store too! My pillows are from their shop.

I’ve never been a fan of duvet covers because: MESS! That being said, I can see the fun in switching them out. I have terracota walls and a beautiful stripe quilt from Martha Stewart that I bought on final clearance from Macy’s and I love them. I’m a color girl, for sure, especially with three dogs and two cats. Blend, blend, blend.
My son is moving to C-Ville in April! He is in the Army and is being transferred. One of my best friends lives near Richmond, so I will be making some trips, and trying out all the wonderful places you go feature!
KathEats says
Oh cool!
Carly says
What do you think of the jean sizing? Are they stretchy? I have a butt and thighs with a smaller waist so I hate ordering without trying on….
KathEats says
They have a little stretch but I would not call them stretch jeans. They feel very sturdy.
Savannah says
Hi Carly! I’m Savannah from Revive! I have a friend that is very fit and has bigger hips and thighs and a small waist. She loves these jeans and I would be happy to help with sizing! Free shipping and you can return, so if you wanted to try two sizes, you would only be out return shipping on the pair you don’t like!
Nancy says
Love cozy bedding too. On the coldest winter nights we put the flannel sheet between a regular sheet and blanket for a little extra light weight warmth… and color.

Have you ever heard of the company called Crane & Canopy? They have gorgeous bedding.

I love your bedding! We have our fall/winter and spring/summer bedding. I tend to gravitate towards more color. I’m kind of tired of it, but our cold weather comforter is a purple/gray/white large floral pattern, and our warm weather quilt is bright with a fun pattern. It’s reversible, and I actually found it at Wal-Mart. One day when we move and upgrade to a queen size bed, I’m excited to get new bedding. I do love Pioneer Woman’s style!
Leah McWilliams says
I’m a big fan of Revive Clothing Boutique! I just purchase an awesome pair Just Black Just Basic Anckle Skinny in white perfect for the spring time. They have a great stretch but still stay on! Great skinny jean for $85 🙂 Also Savannah Dorris has a great sense of style and trust her taste 100%.

We love duvets because they are easy to swap out when you want to give the room a new look. The new bedding is absolutely beautiful! You are my home design/management inspiration. Still looking forward to reading your post on tidying!

Have you seen the duvets at Deny Designs? I just bought one and I’m obsessed! I love the watercolor feel to it and it’s very soft. They seem really pricey but have 30 and 40% off sales all the time. https://www.denydesigns.com
KathEats says
Those are so pretty!!
Linda @ the Fitty says
Is that a long horizontal window right above your bed? It looks so bright and lovely 🙂 I can imagine myself waking up to natural daylight.
Kaci says
I LOVE your new bedding! I also really love Target’s Threshold Performance Sheets and have the gray and white and sage and white ones.
Kate says
Love the duvet, love the pattern mixing in the pillows BUT I’m totally with Thomas, I can’t STAND flannel sheets. I know, I know, they’re comfy and warm and all that, but I just can’t sleep on flannel sheets.
KathEats says
Hahaha!!
Ryane says
Ugh, my husband is the same about fleece & jersey sheets… he’s actually pretty CRAZY particular about our bedding and the temperature of our bedroomraveling/staying in random hotels with him can be the most stressful if the room is too hot/too dry/too muggy/heavy sheets/yada yada yadaaaaaa
Tracy says
I have a Pottery Barn duvet also. Love it.

I love the Ashley bird sham! Beautiful! I’d find a new home for the long pillow in front of it. It hides a lot of the Ashley sham 🙁
Are there any empty walls that could use some bright artwork? Some of your grandmother’s bright paintings would be fun!
Erin says
I’m 35 years old and have no idea what a duvet is. LOL I have a quilt on my bed and I’m ready for a replacement.
KathEats says
Haha it’s the cover that goes over a down comforter
Frankie says
I used to be a white/light bedding fan too… until we got a dog!! She doesn’t sleep in bed with us but she is prone to jumping up for some snuggles in the morning. We opted for a dark charcoal grey with some texture to hide the paw prints and puppy hair.
I would love to get your take on counting macros or the IIFYM style of eating. I’d love your opinion as a dietitian and from a practical normal person perspective!!

Cute jeans! I just purchased the same pair from revive, they’re awesome.
Beth says
Regarding the fact that Thomas hated the flannel, We’ve found that using flannel fitted sheet OR top sheet paired with coordinating sheet of alternate material is the perfect mix. Not too hot, not too cold. Plus, you have two sheet sets to rotate.
KathEats says
Good idea!
Jeanie says
I like the bed, and especially the flowered pillows!
Ali says
My husband also hates flannel sheets. We have been loving the Organic Threshold line at Target.
Jolene (www.everydayfoodie.ca) says
We have a light blanket that is chocolate brown on one side, and blue on the other. We also have a flowery grandma-style quilt, that I just love , and it makes our bed look so cozy. We sometimes have that one on top, and other times the brown or blue side of the other blanket (we keep both blankets on the bed). Our sheets are a deep, dark, almost jewel-toned blue.
Kelly says
I’m considering buying this same duvet cover, but like to do my research before I do online purchases. I hate how Pottery Barn doesn’t offer reviews on their website. Is it soft, and comfortable to sleep with? I’m a stickler for super soft/comfy bedding. Thanks! 🙂
KathEats says
Yes soft!
