And that concludes a weekend, winter, and another year for my mom! Happy Birthday Grammie!
We woke up to a lovely rainbow on St. Pat’s Day. Mazen loved all the green talk, and he went to a kid-friendly St. Pat’s party with Matt at Random Row.
Thomas and I, while wearing green, went out to dinner at Vivace. It was my first visit, and we had a delicious dinner!
We shared a Caesar salad to start.
And I had clams with sausage and spaghetti. Yum! I brought over half of this dish home for another day : )
We are charging through Stranger Things – loving it! We have just a couple of episodes left.
Saturday morning I made a bowl of Greek yogurt with mango (so glad it’s champagne mango season!), strawberries (and those too!), banana and some Nature’s Path granola on top.
I went to the gym for a quick Stairmaster workout before coming home to do a bunch of stuff around the house, including hauling the 10-year-old grill over to Lauren’s house. I recently bought a new one that fits the deck a lot better.
The errands continued for most of the day, so Thomas and I packed up lunches to eat while we were out and about. (Mazen ate an early lunch but we weren’t hungry yet and wanted to get going).
Smoked salmon, cream cheese, sprouts and cucs. My favorite this week!
Plus peanut butter pretzels (GAH) and a Babybel. And we shared an apple!
We went to drop off the grill, and stopped by Thomas’s office. Mazen loved playing “boss.”
We went to the UPS store, Best Buy and then to Toys R Us for you-know-who! Both boys were both running up and down the aisles wanting all the toys! They settled on a pirate ship, yarrr.
Next stop: Whole Foods!! M loves the samples, especially the aged cheeses.
The best decaf there is!
Afternoon fun in the garage. Boy really wants a PowerWheels!
Saturday night Thomas cooked this Blue Apron Butter-Chicken with kale and freekeh. It was one of the more healthy tasting Blue Apron dishes we’ve had, so it was rather refreshing on a Saturday night!
That’s not wine up there, that’s actually unsweetened cranberry juice! A few of you recommended it, and I gave it a try this week. On first taste it was REALLY tart – almost like biting a lemon – but on second sip I felt all the same tannin effects as wine. I loved sipping it before dinner, but gosh it was not good with the dinner! Definitely a great alternative to wine, but also, it’s not wine 😉
Thomas and I went out to meet some friends and watch the UVA game, which did not end well. It was a sad night in Cville.
I got a text from our babysitter asking if it was OK for Mazen to sleep in his fireman costume. LOL – how cute is this (I took it off of him when I got home). They had fun playing!
Sunday morning was filled with prep day activities! I think I’m going to start going to the grocery store on Saturday so I can prep on Sundays. It’s too much to do both in one day.
First, breakfast fuel.
Then I roasted a bunch of veggies, hard boiled eggs, made some of Tina’s no-bake snack balls, and sliced up peppers for lunches.
I nibbled on a bunch of those for lunch and had this yogurt and half a pita with almond butter.
Soccer last night was at 5pm, which was nice because I had all day to get things done. Mazen and I went to the ACAC Big Room, and we played toys with the neighbors for a good part of the day. I had a big bowl of leftover spaghetti from our dinner out on Friday night when I got home from soccer. Perfect way to re-fuel!
Happy Monday!!

I’m with M on the Whole Foods samples – so good! I know it’s local to VA but I wonder if I can find that coffee here in Austin or online maybe. So much decaf coffee just tastes so blah and I hate buying a bag to try it out and then hating it. Glad you had a nice weekend!
KathEats says
I doubt you’d find it in stores there, but I think they do ship
Nicole says
Omg what a fun weekend! Cranberry juice def isnt wine but it’s fun to pretend 😉
Annie says
I switched our grocery shopping day to Saturday this week and prepped on Sunday and it wasn’t SO NICE! I didn’t feel as rushed or like I was wasting a full day between the store and prepping.
KathEats says
Im assuming you mean it was nice 🙂 Agreed – I hate feeling like I did nothing but food. I might start doing errands on Saturday and making Sunday more of a fun at home/prep in the AM/out in the PM kinda day.
Ellie says
I so agree, Annie! I work from home one day a week (normally), and I’ve made that my grocery store day. I don’t I would choose to go to the store on the weekend unless I had to. I’ve become a convert to doing my errands during the week.
KathEats says
It’s also so much less crowded during the week or even Saturday compared to Sunday

I’m curious to watch Stranger Things. Have heard many great reviews about it, but I’m scared I’ll get addicted!

You will but it’s only one season!

That makes me even more scared – I’ll feel so empty afterwards, haha!

That clam and sausage dish sounds delightful! What a lovely weekend and jam packed for sure. i can’t get into stranger things.. am I the only one who isnt digging it?

We recently started grocery shopping on Saturday instead of Sunday and it’s so nice to know it’s done! We loved Stranger Things and watched it twice! Cannot wait for the next season.

First, peanut butter pretzels are amazing but also, a hard line for me. I will eat them and eat them and eat them so I only buy them occasionally. Second, as far as cranberry juice I put about 1 ounce in my 32 ounce water and drink that all day! I thought it was super tart at home but then barely taste it now!
Mary Beth says
Stores are the least crowded on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, so I always do my grocery shopping then. I hate fighting a weekend crowd at the grocery store. I’d rather enjoy Saturday and Sunday without having to shop!
Kori says
I’ve been eating on pb-filled pretzels too; so good! Everything looks fabulous, and I’m with you on sometimes breaking up grocery shopping and meal prepping. Have a wonderful week, Kath!
Sam @ Hygge Wellness says
Love Mazen sitting in T’s office!! So cute : )
Annie says
Just curious, since you work from home full-time, why not do your shopping during the day on weekdays? I know I would relish the opportunity to go when the stores are less crowded!!
KathEats says
I think simply because I’m still in the Sunday – Saturday week mentality in terms of meal planning and things, but it’s not a bad idea. Mondays or Fridays would be an easy swap. Sometimes I do do that (like if I travel on the weekend)
Linda @ The Fitty says
What a romantic place, and I love that triangular bowl you had fruit and granola in!
Kelsey @ So Much Life says
I’m with Mazen – I love those Whole Foods samples!! 😉

I switched about 6 months months to shopping on Saturdays and meal prepping on Sundays and I highly recommend it. I was always burned out on Sunday after shopping, putting everything away and then hauling stuff out to start prepping. Prepping is faster now because I clean out my whole fridge on Saturday, so all the new food is easy to grab.
An added bonus we are making healthier choices on Saturday! Instead of going out because there is no food in the fridge Saturday afternoon, I can pick up something quick and healthy at the store for Saturday night. Even Sunday breakfast is now enjoyable because I have exactly what I want.
KathEats says
All great reasons to switch for me!

For your breakfast…do you only cook one slice of bacon or do you cook them ahead of time and then reheat them or what?? Curious minds want to know 😀
KathEats says
Both! Most often I bake 4-5 at once and then Mazen will eat 2, I’ll have one, and I’ll save some for later.
Elle says
Have you done a post on mocktails? I could google I supposed but I figured other folks might be interested too. I love the idea of something in the evenings that takes a little time to make, and that you want to savor, and isn’t just a can of seltzer (as much as I love those!)

YUM! great weekend and now I want to go to the toy store. 🙂
XOXO
p.s. Dan and I watched all of Stranger Things, so so good! Can’t wait for season two!!
if you get a chance, google the girl who plays Eleven. She has a short video of her and her dad going through Starbucks and she orders by singing and mentions the UPSIDE DOWN. it’s so funny.
“It’s millie bobbie brown sings like adele” it’s so cute!!!

My husband has been working late on Friday nights (tax season) so instead of going home and drinking some wine, I get my grocery shopping done on the way home from work. Ideally I’ll do my food prep and other chores on Saturday and have Sunday Funday, but even staying home to do it on Sunday isn’t too bad if you’ve already shopped.
Rachel says
Have you tried mixing the cranberry juice with a bit of seltzer?? I have type 1 diabetes so I do this often as a way to get a little bubbly, while also making my drink feel special, but still keeping my blood sugars in range!
KathEats says
I did for lunch today! It was great.
Diana says
Those peanut butter pretzels are so addictive!
Katie @ Live Half Full says
What about Kombucha as a wine alternative? The Grape GT’s is my favorite for that purpose. 🙂
KathEats says
I do that a lot!
