Who else is getting their outdoor spaces ready to start socializing again this summer!? Whether it’s for happy hour on the porch, a picnic with your people, or just a casual night by the fire pit, new outdoor patio decor for summer will add some fun to the season!
Porch + Patio Season Is Here
Every spring I can’t wait to throw open the windows and start living outside. When we built our shiplap screened-in porch a few years ago, it really changed our indoor-outdoor living in the warmer months. We eat dinner outside almost every night (except for those 100 degree, 100% humidity days!).
We definitely broke it in as a family, and have spent so many hours enjoying our outdoor space for happy hours, family dinners, afternoon reads (and naps), and more.
We also have a lower patio area that I am looking to add some outdoor summer decorating to in order to make it more livable (and make us actually want to go down to the yard!) Our front porch is great for watching the kids play in the front, and we have these rocking chairs which I LOVE!
Our couch is the Palmetto All Weather Wicker from Pottery Barn in Honey, and the coffee table is this West Elm coffee table. It’s not made for outdoor. But since this space doesn’t get a ton of rain, it’s working out there for now. (there prob is some sun fading though.)
Every summer patio needs comfortable seating! I’m still not thrilled with the color of the wood on the rocking chairs we bought, but I haven’t figured out if I’m going to stain, paint, or swap them. They are super comfortable! I’m kind of hoping the sun fades them to the beachy lighter wood I thought I was buying all along.

More Porch Inspo For Your Outdoor Decor Ideas
I have everything on our porch linked in this post, but I also rounded up some other practical outdoor patio decor for summer.
Of course most of it is neutral (because that’s how I roll), but that makes it even easier to add your own flair with patterns and pops of color. Check out my friend Ellen’s colorful screened porch for decor inspiration and summer decorating ideas!
FURNITURE
3-Piece Cushioned Woven Rocking Patio Seating Set – The fluffy white cushions on the seats and back add stylish contrast to the brown woven design. While I wouldn’t choose white with kids, there’s also a black option! I love this casual set too.
Carlisle 3pc Acacia Wood Picnic Dining Set – I love the look of this set with the casual benches!
6 Person Wood Round Patio Dining Table by Studio McGee – If you’re looking for a round table (like we have), this 6-person wood round table from Studio McGee’s Target line is simple yet lovely. I love all everything in her line! This darker colored round set is great too.
Club Chairs by Studio McGee – I love the colors and that they will be quick to dry without thick cushions.
Evergreen Side Table Trio – This trio of tables is multipurpose: use the individual tables as a plant stand for potted plants or place one next to a comfy chair to hold your iced tea and stack of books.
Pottery Barn Tulum Bar Cart – This metal bar cart from Pottery Barn is all sorts of sophisticated. If it’s not in your budget, I really like this neutral wood bar cart via Amazon for a fraction of the cost.
Rocking Chair – Consider the other colors of our new rocking chairs: grey and light wood with a modern design or white cushion.
DECOR
Brookstone Outdoor Rug – This rug immediately caught my eye for being neutral but a touch coastal. I love the blue!
Birch Outdoor Rug – Is this a must have for us given the name!?
Indoor/Outdoor String Lights – A string of lights can elevate the vibe of any outdoor space.
Citronella Candle Set – The only pesky thing about outdoor patio/porch hangs is the bugs, right? This stylish citronella candle is super cute.
Black Lanterns – If you’re clueless on where to start with outdoor decor (hopefully this post helps), simply add a couple of lanterns and the vibe will start to come alive. I love these Maize and Wood ones too for a beachy vibe.
Concrete Planter – Going with the neutral theme through and through, plant flowers or greenery in few of these concrete planters to add a little life to your outdoor arrangement.
Black + White Fleece Blanket – I love the classic black and white boho look. Perfect if you’re in a part of the country that has chilly nights,
Performance Rugs – If you’re looking for a beautiful indoor/outdoor rug, Serena & Lily’s are stunning and often 20% off.
Offset Hanging Market Patio Umbrella – If your outdoor umbrellas have seen many sunny summers, it might be time to switch out the faded and worn umbrella for something stiff and new.
OUTDOOR FUN
Snake Pool Float – Lucky enough to have a pool in your backyard? My boys would love this snake!
Solo Stove – We are huge fans of our Solo Stove! Move it around the yard easily and create the perfect low-smoke ambiance. (I say low smoke because IMO it’s not totally smokeless!)
Picnic Cheese Board Set – Cheese board to go? Yes please!
Outdoor Movie Screen – Sure, you can hang a sheet up, but this set is probably not going to fall down.
Croquet Set – We used to have one when I was little, and my sister and I had a lot of fun playing around the yard!
Yeti Cooler Bag – Thomas got me this for my birthday last year and it’s been a GREAT bag for picnics, parties, and the beach. I’m a big fan of the soft cooler bag.
Cleaning Patio Furniture
We like to give our porch a nice clean after a long winter. Here are some of the steps I take every spring once it seems like pollen season has wound down:
- Remove and machine wash all cushions
- Power wash all furniture
- Remove cobwebs from corners
- Mop the floor
- Freshen up the plants (or bring them outside if they’ve been inside for the winter)
- Get the grills restocked for summer use (have extra propane/charcoal on hand!)
- Dust anything high up like the TV / remote controls / fans

Now that the upper porch is pretty much set, we need to get our ground level patio spruced up for summertime.
