I let myself sleep 30 minutes later for getting to bed a little late, but I still feel pretty bad this morning, mostly related to beer. I hate that just one [large] beer will do that to me. I also woke up to Matt’s coworker calling at 3:45 that he was late – I guess he slept through his alarm? That hasn’t happened in 1.5 years of early baking! The phone call put me into a total body sweat of shock and I couldn’t go back to sleep for a while. ‘Twas not a good night’s sleep 🙁
But onward I must go –
I’d planned no-cook cereal today and to use up milk, so that was convenient.
The foundation was a packet of Nature’s Path Whole O’s, which were just like airier (sp?!) versions of Cheerios
Plus Sarah’s Chai Granola, Galaxy Granola, Burries, 1/2 a banana, chia seeds and coconut
Presentation
All mixed up. It tasted good, but cereal is so not satisfying.
Stash Vanilla Nut Creme. You’d think this would be my favorite tea ever, but there’s something about it that I don’t like. A spice?
I’m going to get a coffee at work! There’s a Starbucks right on my way in. A nice Saturday treat.
Hope you guys have fun playing outside today!
Maggie says
Yo, Kath. Do you use sweetened or unsweetened coconut? Oh, and I’m with you on the lack of satisfaction from cereal. I love it, but I could eat a whole box first thing in the morning.
Kath says
I usually buy the good ole sweetened in a bag – it’s just worth it because it’s so much better. But this was from a bulk bin at a local grocery store so I don’t know if it’s been sweetened or not. I’m guessing not..
Freya @ Brit Chick Runs says
Cereal never satisfies me either, unless it’s a proper protein + fibre packed one like All-Bran! Oats and GMs are the ultimate in satisfaction 🙂
I hope your day goes better than the night!
Ann @ Appalachian Appetites says
I think that you were able to put a bowl of cereal together that looks that good is impressive on a night of little sleep. Props to you! I would have been tempted to grab a sweet thing at Starbucks along with my coffee 🙂 Well push onward Kath! Hopefully tonight you get a good nights sleep!
Emily Eats and Exercises says
Cereal is one of my favorite snacks, but pretty terrible as a hearty breakfast. You certainly dressed yours up purty though. 🙂
Courtney (Pancakes & Postcards) says
What time does he have to be at work? That is crazy! I can’t imagine trying to sleep through that. Your cereal is beautiful, I could eat it every day if I could… it just doesn’t fill me up at all, either!
Sarena (The Non-Dairy Queen) says
I am with you on cereal…it has to be on top of oats in order to fill me up! I like the Whole Oh’s! I have them with banana and almond milk. Have a great day!
Estela @ Weekly Bite says
I’m one of the minorities who loves cereal, and it can hold my hunger for hours 🙂
Have a great day!
Eliza says
lovely breakfast, looks so pretty and that mug is so cool, hope you get a better nights rest tonight!
Jenn (Jenn's Menu and Lifestyle Blog) says
Those berries look so pretty!! 🙂

Sarah (Running to Slow Things Down) says
Hope your work day flies by so you can move on to a fun weekend. 😀
Oh, and I’m with you on the cereal. Unless it’s mixed with yogurt and the cereal itself is full of protein/fiber (like some of kashi or nature’s path slim cereals). I wasn’t much a fan of those whole o’s, but I used them for running fuel during long runs (mixed with dried cranberries and almonds.) 😀
Lana says
I agree with unsatisfying cereal, excepting oatmeal. Interesting how “all calories are certainly not ‘equal'” in terms of satiety. Or is it a “mind thing?” Likely not.
I find it interesting that, given your love of “CRUNCH”, that you don’t put whole nuts (ie walnuts pieces) on your cereal instead of nut butter. Just interesting.
I do love that tea and am sorry to hear it isn’t what you expected.
Thanks for the updates.
Rest your body well today.
Erin says
I’m totally with you–I like cereal now and then but it definitely doesn’t sustain or fill me the way oats do.
Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin says
Brekkie looks yummy! But I completely agree that cereal isn’t filling at all! I need oats or granola to do the trick.
M says
Unfortunately a LOT of us have to work Saturdays all the time, and it really does suck-boo!
I wanna play outside too!!!
Ah well, better enjoy every precious moment in life, cause we never know how long a gift of life we really have on earth.Corny but oh so true.Seize the day, carpe diem for sure!
Stacie @ Imperfectly Healthy says
What’s funny about cereal is that I DO find it satisfying for a snack during the day, but if I eat it in the morning, I’m hungry in about an hour. Strange!!
I hope you enjoy your work Saturday as much as possible!!
Mary says
I think that when a morning starts like that, it is bound to be a better day! Keep up the hard work and just remember that it will all be worth it in the end–even working Saturdays!
Stacey@http://stacey-healthylife.blogspot.com/ says
I’m off to work also, your breakfast looked better then mine. I’m running short on breakfast supplies. I’m craving some blueberries.
Heather says
I hate being woken up from sleep as I can never get back. Hopefully you’ll sleep much better tonight 🙂
I also dislike the Stash Vanilla Creme – it doesn’t taste nutty or vanilla-y enough for me. I do, however, LOVE their Chocolate Hazelnut, so try that. It’s such a wonderful dessert tea.
Evelyn @ cheers2healthy says
Yumm tea this morning sounds like a good idea : )
ashleigh says
Ugh, I hate not getting a good nights sleep. Hope you day improves! Coffee usually makes everything better 🙂
Wei-Wei says
Cereal never fills me up, either 🙁 I haven’t eaten it in a loooooong time (we eventually stopped buying it) but to me, cereal = air. A good snack dry maybe, but not filling. :S
Wei-Wei
Heather @ Health, Happiness, and Hope says
I tend to go through phases with my breakfasts, but cereal is always a nice way to change things up! Hope you’re Saturday treats you right! 🙂
Kath, I know that when I add “https://www.katheats.com” to my Google Reader I don’t need the “/feed” at the end of the web address. I was wondering how you were able to avoid that?
Kath says
I think you can put any address in Google Reader and it auto-recognizes it
Hannah says
I miss Starbucks! And I hear they just came out with soy frappucinos. Want! Ah well, can’t have everythign we want in life 😛
Jessica @ The Process of Healing says
Yikes, I hate nights like that!
I agree with you on cereal.. tastes so good but isn’t as NEAR as satisfying as oats!
thepinkpeppercorn says
LOVE berries for breakfast! Any which way, but yeah, cereal doesn’t really fill me up either!
steph-exercise physiologist and artist! says
Boo! I hate waking up feeling startled that really does affect the way you feel the next day. Starbucks IS a nice Saturday treat 🙂 I only get SB for “special occasion” like when I travel or when I want to treat myself. I am driving to my mom’s today and I might just get myself a Saturday SB treat on my way out too. thanks for the idea 🙂
Cates says
I hear ya on the Stash Vanilla Nut Creme. To me, it had an alcohol-ey taste – maybe amaretto? It took me awhile to get used to drinking it, but I liked it best unsweetened.
Kellie says
Cereal is not satisfying for breakfast. I prefer it for dessert or a snack at night. If I have it for breakfast I want to eat four bowls just to feel full.
foodandfarm says
why is it in college we can drink all night long and be fine the next day- but as soon as you hit 24/25 it aall changes? simply not fair!
Cynthia (It All Changes) says
I hate those nights! We’ve gotten phone calls in the middle of the night that keeps me up the rest of the night. I hope your Starbucks helps the day go faster.
wendy @ ABCs and Garden Peas says
I did bakery work for upwards of 15 years, and I almost always got up on time, and that time was usually in the wee hours (3 am-ish.) But, every once in a while, out of nowhere, with no warning, I’d randomly oversleep. It happens to the best of the early birds.
A hazard of bakery work, I guess.
Marina says
I had a good night, but too short 🙁 I am seriously lacking on sleep.
Your cereal looks amazing, specially those berries… I can’t wait for summer and fresh berries, yum
Camille says
Eek, I hate sleeping through my alarm!
It puts me on edge the rest of the day 🙁
Michelle @ Give Me the Almond Butter says
I am so sorry about having a rough night’s sleep. When I had a shelf fall in my room at 1:30 in the morning a little while ago I definitely could not get to sleep afterwards cause my heart was racing. I feel your pain.
lynn (The Actors Diet) says
i didn’t sleep well last night either – woke up at 5 to my dog prancing around my pillow (not unusual). that’s pretty amazing that matt hasn’t been late before!!!
Mary @ It's Bliss says
Oats are the only thing to fill me up and get me going in the morning-and even those have to have extra protein and lots of mix ins. Hope you start feeling better!
Casey says
The cereal looks so good, but I totally feel you on the not satisfying part. Sometimes I treat cereal as a snack. I just went to Starbucks as my weekend treat. Their new Pike Place Roast is actually really good! Considering I’m not really keen on Starbucks in general. 🙂 Have fun tonight!
Alycia @ Fit n Fresh says
your food is always so beautifully photographed and I especially love your breakfast shots – keep it up! (:
Lisa says
i agree- loveee cereal, but not satisfying. even the ones with the higher protein coutns i feel like i could just nosh and nosh until the whole box is gone! ever have peanut butter panda puffs or barbaras bakery peanut butter puffins? DAN-GER-OUS! I feel like i could eat a whole box in a sitting! 🙂
Hayley says
Waking up in the middle of the night like that always throws me off! Have you ever thought it was time to get up and started to go about your morning routine? That’s the weirdest. Hopefully tonight you’ll catch up on the zzz’s!
Sabina says
I’m in the same boat as you with respect to alcohol. Even the smallest amount leaves me unable to sleep and not feeling so good the next day. It could be worse – imagine not being able to eat certain healthy, REAL, foods!
