All my favorites!!!!!!!!
Dakota bun with Dill Goat Cheese and Cucumber
Voskos plain with Biscoff spread (!!!!!)
And "char-ries"
One Happy Mouth.
Lunchtime Entertainment: KERF’s 5 Favorite Nut Butters
Oh MAN this is hard ………[TWSS]
5) Costco brand or Smucker’s Natural (for those days when you just crave a salted peanut)
4) Nuttzo PF (for the crunchy unbeatable texture – with Nuttzo original not far behind!)
3) Naturally Nutty Cinnamon Vanilla Sunflower Butter (for the buttery frosting love)
2) Cacao Bliss + Coconut butter (nuff said)
and if I had to eat only one for the rest of my life…
1) It’s a tie between Maranatha Almond Butter and Barney Butter (for the sweet, roasty meltedness that is perfect over hot oatmeal!)
***
What are your favorites!?
Freya @ Brit Chick Runs says
I love the sound of your nut butters! Mine is PB & Co smooth operator – that’s basically the only decent one in England! Though hazelnut butter is lovely 🙂
Laura @ Food For La says
I discovered Justin’s Maple Almond Butter last year in Boulder and am thrilled to now see it some places on the East coast. It has the perfect balance of sweet and salty and is perfect on everything.
Josh says
Hmm…I didn’t like *either* of the Justin’s butters that I recently bought: the Maple Almond and Honey Peanut. They sounded delicious, but the Maple Almond almost tastes to me like there’s, I don’t know, finely ground silica dust mixed into the butter. Very grainy and gritty. I also dislike the consistency (too runny for me) and wish it could be sweeter.
Different strokes for different folks, I suppose…
Samantha says
I personally love the squeeze packs of Justins. So great for my gym bag and a snack to keep in the car for the kids.
Sarena (The Non-Dairy Queen) says
Nice lunch with all the essentials! I do love Barney Butter…speaking of which, I am out! I need to get my hands on the Nutzzo. I am dying to try that one out! Enjoy your afternoon!
Beth @ Beth's Journey to Thin says
I looove Mara Natha almond butter the best. I’ve also started getting into Blue Diamond Honey Almond Butter lately. yum!
Heather says
Smucker’s Natural-chunky 🙂
Amelia says
My favorite right now is Trader Joes Almond butter with flaxseed…with the valencia peanut butter coming in at a close second. I stopped into Matt’s GH last week on my way back to SC from up north. I pre-ordered Dakota buns the night before. They were so good! Such a treat!
Kath says
Oh fun!
Andrea @ Sweet N Green says
My favorite is TJ’s unsalted. Although, I haven’t tried Nutzo because I can’t buy it locally but I’m pretty sure I would fall in love with it!
Hillary [Nutrition Nut on the Run] says
…and green bell pepper on your sammie too?
I just bought Cocoa Bliss. What shall I do with it?!?
Kath says
OH yeah!! Forgot about that 🙂
Cocoa Bliss – over oats obviously!! Or melted on toast.
Becca says
Yummy! Your lunch looks just lovely. So simple.
Heather (Heather's Dish) says
oh, i don’t know if i can pick just one, they’re all so amazing!!! i am a fan of maranatha though…it’s delicious and affordable!
Michele says
I really love justin’s maple almond butter, but maranatha’s AB is good too.
Beth @ DiningAndDishing says
Best question ever :). My #1 fave is Maranatha peanut butter. I’m no longer allowed to have it in the house though, because I eat wayyy too much! haha-eek!
Lana says
Maranatha AB – raw
Nuts to You – Cashew butter (so different)
Any freshly ground “just peanuts” peanut butter – I go crazy for this and put it on everything…including plain spoons! 😉
Coco @ Opera Girl Cooks says
I just did a review of Justin’s Maple Almond Butter — it’s currently the front runner on my list of favorite almond butters! The texture is really appealing. So good.
Also, your cucumber cheese sandwich looks fantastic! I used to do something similar all the time, with a whole wheat pita, persian cukes, and a laughing cow light garlic cheese wedge.
Abby says
I’m going to have to say Ashley’s (edible perspective) Roasted Maple Cinnamon Almond butter! When I visited her this weekend, she made me a sammie with that on it. It was HEAVENLY!!! NOM!
Samantha Angela @ Bikini Birthday says
That biscoff spread looks delicious.
Bree says
I also love Maranatha almond – and that I can buy it for cheap at Costco!
I would love to try some others, but they are usually a bit too spendy 🙁
claire says
Those cherries look great..I haven’t found any organic ones yet! My fave nut butters depend on my mood I think but recently I’ve been all about the raw creamy tj’s almond butter. Other favorites are naturally nutty vanilla almond butter and justins maple almond butter. I love most pb so it is too hard to choose one!
Gabriela @ Une Vie Saine says
I think Smucker’s Natural takes the cake for me…I love my peanut butter super peanutty! PB&Co. White Chocolate Wonderful is my favorite “fun” nut butter, and I love TJ’s almond butter too!
Michelle @ Give Me the Almond Butter says
I’m actually not a huge fan of Maranatha Almond Butter. It just doesn’t have the flavor I’m looking floor. As far as almond butters go, my favorites are TJ’s almond butter with flaxseed. I love the crunch. I also love Justin’s maple almond butter because it really sweetens up the butter.
I’m not even going to go into all of the other butters! There are just too many!
Ashley@thehungryscholar says
Great idea on the top nut butters!
Lauren says
I think I could write a novella on peanut butter. Ultimately, I stick with the Whole Foods Brand of Creamy. It’s two pounds and only a few bucks and lasts FOREVER (or two weeks, because I eat it always)… The best part: two ingredients, peanuts, and salt. Yum! I don’t understand why Whole Foods doesn’t make this variety with organic peanuts. All of their organic varieties are either sweetened or stabilized with oil for a no-stir product. As much as I hate stirring, I love the richness and purity of stirred peanut butter. Oh, enough already! I must be quiet! I just really love peanut butter…
Emily says
Trader Joes Crunchy Almond Butter with flax…yummmmmmmmz.
Robyn @ Frugal 'n' Fit! says
Out of your top 5, I have only tried Maranatha almond butter! This must be remedied.
Rachel says
Absolute favourite – Adams natural crunchy. YUM. And almost impossible to find in Toronto. 🙁
I like my butters pretty plain – no sugar, no added oil. Just nuts and salt!
Lindsay @ Summit Sandwiches says
I love Justin’s Maple Almond Butter (and Maple PB)! Great flavor and texture.. I recently discovered Whole Food’s brand of organic PB, and it has a great flavor as well. I love all nut butters, to be honest…I really want to get my hands on some Naturally Nutty butters and some Cacao Bliss, but I can’t find them at any stores nearby.
emily says
My favorite nut butter is TJ’s Sun Butter.
I know you’ve talked about maybe making yogurt at home before, so I wanted to let you know that I’m giving away a yogurt-maker over at my blog: http://eatventures.wordpress.com/2010/06/16/a-great-could-be-greek-giveaway/
Anne @ Food Loving Polar Bear says
I’m in love with your sandwich 🙂
Stacy (StacyGrowsHealthy) says
I still need to try more to have a decent group to choose from. But right now naturally nutte butter toffee is up top.
Leslie says
Barney Butter is my fave! I could eat the whole jar in one sitting if I had no self control.
Sassy Molassy says
Trader Joe’s Valencia Almond BUtter all the way! THe roasted flax seeds in it are amazing! Although, I haven’t tried Nuttzo or Naturally Nutty, which sound fabulous.
Jenny says
That sandwich combo looks delish!! So fresh and yummy… glad to see the Biscoff is being enjoyed;)
homecookedem says
Well… I used to love maranatha peanut butter the most, but now that I’m pregnant I cannot STAND any nut butters, blech!! And Kath, I loved them as much as you do!! It’s so strange how literally overnight I got the aversion to PB. Just be ready for whenever you become pregnant… your food preferences might go crazy like mine did!! 🙂
RhodeyGirl says
Skippy Natural smooth.
Please don’t judge me.
2nd favorite? The make your own nut butter from the machines at Whole Foods.
Foodie (Fab and Delicious Food) says
Hmmm, I think I’ve only ever tried almond butter and sunflower butter once or twice. I pretty much just eat peanut butter, either the Smucker’s Natural or Trader Joe’s brand peanut butter. Will have to try all the other nut butters/brands one day and see what all the fuss is about 🙂
Jess says
Peanut Butter: Smuckers natural
Almond Butter: Honey AB from Blue Diamond
I agree that Maranatha has very little flavor!! I love the texture but I barely taste anything!
Samantha says
If you buy the “no stir” AB its super tasty..because it has added sugar (and palm oil) SOOOOOO! good!
rebecca says
totally agree. love the maranatha no-stir crunchy for its tiny bit of sweetness. though i usually alternate between this and a roasted-almond-only butter (whole foods or tjs).
Foodie (Fab and Delicious Food) says
P.S. If you or any of your readers are interested, I have a giveaway on my blog for a $60 gift certificate to CSN Stores:

af @ .the food. says
although a tie is totally cheating, ill let you get away with it!
and once again, being canadian has failed me…its like a SEARCH to find some of these…i always end up getting them in the states…
Tara says
My favorite is smart balance creamy. It is the perfect taste and texture! I like to make my own flavored ones too. Jalepeno Almond Butter was delicious, and I made a mixed nut butter that tasted like sugar cookies!
Dorry says
I love Justin’s Almond Butter. Just simple almond goodness with a touch of salt – perfect for apple slices.
Tina says
Barney Butter. Obviously!
Sarah (Running to Slow Things Down) says
I’m a huge fan of Teddy’s salted, chunky peanut butter. The flavor is so robust and it’s smooth and full of nutty chunks. Love, love, LOVE it! 😀
I’m also a fan of Justin’s Honey Roasted Peanut Butter, although it’s a bit dryer then some of the other nut butters out there.
Kaz says
Ooh, your lunch looks good!
My favorite peanut butter is, sadly, Kirkland brand, from Costco. It’s peanuts and salt and nothing else. It’s seriously good. My favorite almond butter is Maranthana, but only because the only other kind I’ve tried is this inferior stuff at my grocery store. And my favorite “walk into the grocery store and pick up something” is Jif Natural.
lynn (The Actors Diet) says
i love justin’s maple almond butter. i can’t believe i’ve never tried either of your faves!
Mary @ Bites and Bliss says
Smucker’s natural (cause it’s just peanuts & salt and its cheap) and What Peanut Butter Should Be for it’s extreme stick-to-the-roof-of-your-mouth quality 😀
Emily says
Justin’s Honey Almond or Wegmans Natural Crunchy Peanut Butter (it only has one ingredient, peanuts!)
Barbara(Blood, Sweat and Heels) says
Dark Chocolate Almond butter is like creamy spreadable crack. Love.IT!!!!
I also have a thing for that soy honey nut butter, VERY yum! Too bad i have too avoid soy:(
Mmmm cherries…
B
Camille says
I’m loving this list! Now I want to try all of them.
Callie says
I’m currently using the self-grind nut butters at Whole Foods.
But I think I would really enjoy Nuttzo, anything crunchy with peanuts is my love. Sadly, they don’t seem to sell it at my local grocery store.
Wei-Wei says
Biscoff spread would certainly make my mouth very, very happy. Gosh. I’m so jealous of all these varieties of nut butters you’ve tried! The two I have only ever tried in my life: Skippy Creamy, and homemade. So sad 🙁
Wei-Wei
Ashley says
Another one for Justin’s Maple Almond Butter! I eat it by the spoonfuls! 🙂
Jen says
I would have to say that my favorites are the ones I make on my own. I think they taste better because you know you made it yourself! But, if I had to pick out my top 5 store bought brands, I have a list!
5. TJ’s Valencia Peanut Butter
4.Coconut Butter
3. Whole Foods Brand Chocolate Peanut Butter (grind yourself!!)
2. Justin’s Maple Almond Butter
1. Trader Joe’s Organic Raw Crunchy Unsalted Almond Butter (this wins by a landslide!!!)
That was tough! But, those are what I always have stocked at my house. 🙂 I’m not a Barney Butter fan.
Christa says
The sandwich looks great!
Kathy W. says
Kettle Roasted Almond butter (the one with salt)!! I’ve tried all the almond butters, and this is by far the best (IMHO).
Kathy W. says
just looked it up–my fave is Kettle creamy lightly salted. Here’s a link:
www.kettlefoods.com/our_products/nut_butters
Sydney says
Oh I always lust after the Maranatha dark chocolate almond butter. But it has DAIRY in it and so is not vegan 🙁 On the bright side, I did just buy some plain soy yogurt… glad I can still enjoy my yogurt! In fact, after seeing your lunch pic, I might just go grab some now…
Ginna says
I really love Marantha Almond Butter. It is the best! I haven’t found another one I love. Am hoping to find it when I move to VA next week. Do you order yours or get it at the grocery store?
Simply Life says
Looks like a great combo!
Julz says
This is the hardest question ever! What’s my favorite nut butters?!?! Well, I’d have to say both the vanilla peanut butter and vanilla almond butter from Naturally Nutty are amazing. So is the Cookie dough peanut butter from the now-closed PB Loco, I may never have it again 🙁 I also bought some Nuttzo PF and really like that too! But really, I have never had a nut butter that I didn’t like 🙂
Jordan Wandfluh says
Every peanut butter from Peanut Butter Co.
Especially cinnamon raisin
Meagan says
You know it’s not fair that you have a whole range of nut butters and I have to fight to get plain and simple peanut butter! Ah the downside of residing in Europe I guess. I happily (or maybe not so happily) pay the $10 for the smallest jar of peanut butter known to man so I can have my pb fix. I can’t wait to get back stateside, where I will no doubt go crazy trying all the nut butters!
Laura says
Such an interesting and delicious looking lunch! Inspiring:-)
Mmmm i think i’d be boring and say at the moment my favourite nut butter is simply smooth peanut butter! any type! yummmmy xx
Stacey@http://stacey-healthylife.blogspot.com/ says
I need to try more varieties of nut butters. I am such a rookie.
Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin says
My favourite is I.M. Healthy’s soy nut butter. It’s one of the only ones I’m not allergic to! 😛
Salah@myhealthiestlifestyle says
Barney Butter for sure!!! I havent had a nut butter that I enjoy near as much as that!! Then PB&J Co White Chocolate Wonderful, cinnamon raisin swirl, and the dark chocolate!
Jil @ Peace, Love & Munchies says
I need to try more – but Marantha’s dark chocolate almond had me at hello.
Cassie @ A Very Busy Mind says
Man everyone’s having cherries lately! Needa get my hands on some.
My two favs: Naturally More PB and Smucker’s Natural Chunky PB
kellyO says
Here’s a quick and probably obvious question. Is your yogurt enough protein at lunch or is it your yummy Dakota bun’s fiber that keeps you full? Thanks…!
Kath says
Both!
Samantha says
Maranatha all the way. But I am also a fan of the kind you grind at the store. The coarse texture is a bit special..esp. with a good dose of honey on toast. Lord have mercy!
Lisa @bakebikeblog says
I am loving sunflower seed butter and cashew butter at the moment 🙂
Mastering Public Health says
Naturally Nutty makes great organic and non-PB flavored options (Vanilla Almond + Cinnamon Sunflower are great) with the super addition of flax and hemp, Nuttzo blend is fun for the texture/crunch, but for classic peanut butter–preferring organic–the price and smoothness of Trader Joe’s organic creamy salted peanut butter just can’t be beat. They also make a crunchy variety and unsalted versions of both, but haven’t tried them. (IMO, peanut butter with ZERO salt = ugh!) Another one worth mentioning is a more local but fairly widely-available Once Again brand. For non-organic, though, Peanut Butter & Co.’s Cinnamon Raisin Swirl is hard to top. Great thread.
Tammy @ Defining Wellness says
I also love Nuttzo. I’m a huge fan of PB & Co’s Bee’s Knees, and I love Justin’s Maple Almond Butter. Mmmm, nut butters are awesome.
Jessica @ The Process of Healing says
Oooo that’s hard but I’d probably say Barney Butter!!!
Amber K says
I love any and all peanut butters! Ok, not really. I’m a creamy girl, not a fan of chunks!
I actually find myself always going for Smart Balance’s blend that has flaxseed and molasses. Although I’m sure there are nut butters much better for me!
Katherine says
I didn’t even know Cosco had a brand! I love Smuckers natural when it comes to PB. I thought Barney Butter was too creamy plus they add oil
Katherine
Ash Bear says
Um excuse me, BISCOFF SPREAD!? What are the nutritional stats on this? Amazing!
SentimentsbyDenise says
Maranatha Crunchy almond butter for me! I have about 5 open jars (different nut butters) in my fridge right now, but this is my all time favorite!
Hannah says
I honestly thought that biscoff was a leaf fallen into your yogurt!! Ah, your list of favourite nut butters hurts… not a single one one is available here in Australia. I’ve never tried Barney Butter but I have one jar that I bought when visiting the States, but I refuse to open it because once I do I’ll eat it and it’ll be gone! 😛
Allison says
Hi Kath!
I really think you should try this recipe if you love goat cheese and the other ingredients listed! Who would ever think grapes and cilantro would be so grand together?

Enjoy your summer.

Amanda @ WannaBe Chef says
Wow, other than the Maranatha AB, I haven’t tried ANY of the nut butters you listed! Sad! Regardless, I would still say my fave is Naturally More PB. I really need to find that Biscoff spread though…
BroccoliHut says
I go through phases with nut butters, but currently I’m loving Naturally More PB and Sunbutter.
Kel says
1. Almond butter
2. Trader Joe Sunflower
3. Costco here too!
Coconut butter and Nuttzo PF are in the mail from OpenSky thanks to you!
caronae says
Naturally Nutty Vanilla Almond Butter. To die for.
Vermont Barn Wedding says
Eewww!!! I hate cucumber!
Marissa says
My favorite is definately Naturally More! I haven’t had it in ages though because its so expensive and I can’t justify it because I have two huge jars of Skippy Natural sitting in the pantry, as well as some Barney Butter. Hahah. Maybe next week or something.
jessica says
Cacao Bliss + Coconut butter have nuts in them?!
Kelly says
I like TJ’s unsalted almond butter. I’ve actually been too cheap in the past to try Maranatha or Nutzo. But maybe soon(?).
Lindsay says
have you tried Justin’s Maple Almond Butter…ugghh I am HOOKED!!
rebecca says
omg i just discovered the most amazing almond butter and dug up this post to tell you about it. if you try it please share with readers 🙂
1) buy a pack of tj’s sesame honey almonds (amazing as is – my inspiration)
2) stick entire bag in food processor
3) pulse at first and then let machine run, stop and scrape sides down every minute or so at first, when it gets really pasty break it up and add about 1 T oil (i used walnut). then let run for a long time (~8-10 min?) to really get it smooth… ends up same consistency as any store bought natural almond butter
AMAZING. if you have an empty jar around (which i’m sure you do), it fits in a 16-oz one. i’m going to be making this alllll the time now. i eat ab every day on an ezekiel cinn-raisin eng muffin w/ sliced banana but it would also be fabbbbb on those chunks of gh raisin bread you eat.
Kath says
Does sound amazing!!
