Target is throwing my day off target
I got sucked in. I ended up with most of what I needed – and came home with a rolling briefcase.
:NERD ALERT: !!
Traveling as a blogger means a heavy laptop, a huge camera, usually a lens or two, cords, plus the regular healthy essentials: often a lunch, snacks, water bottle, book, cell phone, wallet.
You can imagine how heavy my tote bag gets on my shoulder! I remember a while back Meghann bought a rolling bag for her travels. (And Ashley packed her cameras in an entire rolling suitcase!)
When I spotted one in Target, it ended up in my cart. No more shoulder aches!
It’s basic on the outside but perfect for me because it has TWO big pockets – one for my computer and one for my camera bag (most of these guys just have one pocket for computer).
And a really spacious front pocket for all my personal items.
There is just one problem – I have to put everything in juuuust so to get the thing to zip. I’m a bit angry at the zippers right now, but I think I can make it work. Anything is better than not having wheels.
So Target kept me out until 1:30, so I didn’t get to make my recipe today. It keeps getting bumped! I was too hungry to cook, so I assembled instead:
A big salad with:
- Spinach
- Pumpkin spice vinegar (from Boston Olive Oil Co.)
- Green pepper
- Carrot
- Leftover cranberry chicken breast
- Goat cheese
- Cinnamon almonds
Plus this awful, awful dry bread. I barely made it through half the slice.
Good thing Matt is making some bread from scratch today!
Back to my list!!
Jessica @ How Sweet It Is says
I’m headed to Target right now. I’m scared.
Michele @ Healthy Cultivations says
Target saves the day! I spent more time and money than intended at Target yesterday, but it’s just one of the greatest stores out there.
Meri @ Meri Goes Round says
Target threw your day off? Target is known to throw my BUDGET off… hundred dollar store…
I’m going to check here for carry-on luggage for my trip next week. Very timely post 🙂
Meri
Estela @ Weekly Bite says
I get sucked into Target every time I go. My goal is to never spend more the $50. That almost never happens 😉
Christin@purplebirdblog says
That rolling briefcase totally rocks! I might have to look into something like that to tote all my massage therapy supplies to school!
Danielle says
What a great idea! I could really use one of those, my poor shoulders have had enough. I guess out of all the things to get target-ed into buying, you should be glad that you found something so useful 😉 ah, Target.
Dorry says
I love the idea of a rolling briefcase! My shoulders ache so much after traveling with heavy bags/backpacks. Your salad looks great – we have the best cinnamon pecans from a Christmas gift – I need to bust them out on a salad.
sweeter salt says
All those big box stores suck me in every time! The worst are Target, Ikea and Big Lots – I just keep perusing even though I know I need to be quick.
Laura
Anna @ Newlywed, Newly Veg says
I need one of those!! I carry all of my books and papers to school, and it KILLS my shoulders!
Lauren at KeepItSweet says
Target is SO dangerous that way! How have you functioned all this time without a rolling suitcase?!
Cathy says
I bought a Samsonite bag just like that for my laptop, printer, paper, etc. What a HUGE difference! I love that bag!
Katy (The Singing Runner) says
Ooo! I’m jealous of the bag! Haha!!! As I get more into blogging, I realize that it takes a lot of gear!
Cathy B. @ Bright Bakes says
Oh the lovely pitfalls of Target 😉
love,
cathy b. @ brightbakes
Emily @ One Sweet Vegan says
I have to make a couple returns at Target this week. I’m a little afraid to step foot inside the store since I spent way to much on my unplanned purchases last week!
Jil @ Big City, Lil Kitchen says
Looove Target! It’s seriously the place of “everything you didn’t know that you needed.”
Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) says
Getting sucked in at Target = the norm! I posted about it last night. It happens…to everyone 🙂
I love your rollerbag. My hubs had had rolling briefcases for the 12 years Ive known him. The Tumi brand which cost more than a Vitamix almost…ha! …but he travels for work and rides airplanes and they hold up super well.
I hope you love your new Tar-jay find! 🙂
Marcia says
Ah, the rolling bag. It was a few years ago when we broke down and got rolling suitcases. Eventually as you get older and have a kid, it gets near impossible to travel with everything in backpacks and duffels. Now, we love them, and one of them is small enough for the 4-year old to pull.
It must be the new year – time for blog updates. I decided to work on a contact page, favorites page, blog roll page…and it looks like a lot of the my favorite blogs are updating too! It’s a great idea – makes it easier to find exactly what you want. Mine is definitely a work in progress.
Brittany (A Healthy Slice of Life) says
Target always sucks me in…without fail. I wish I could smell how wonderful your house is going to smell later when matt bakes bread!
Tina @ Faith Fitness Fun says
Target is such a money trap. That does look like a nice bag though!
Sarena (The Non-Dairy Queen) says
We were supposed to go to Target today, but sadly never made it. I have been working my butt off getting organized today and the kids go back to school tomorrow, so hopefully I will get a shower in before bed! I like the bag…anything to keep things organized!
Natalie @ Will Jog For Food says
You salad looks GOOD! I would love to get my hands on some of that pumpkin vinegar 🙂
Paige @Running Around Normal says
Ahhh Target – a time and money suck. I love it 🙂
Camille says
I can spend so much money at Target. Ungodly amounts.
I recently invested in a rolling bag and I am sooo happy I did!
Shannon @ A Better Me says
Oh that salad looks yummy!
Kate (What Kate is Cooking) says
I’m going to Target today too. Something tells me I’ll come home with a lot less money 🙂
Stephanie says
Why does Target have to be so awesome!? At least you bought something that actually PERTAINS to your life and will be useful. I end up walking out of there half the time with things that I had no use for before I bought it but make some up after I get it!
Rachel @ The Avid Appetite says
Target always has a way of doing that! Looks like a great bag though 🙂 And your salad looks gorgeous!
erica says
the target that i go to is always a dissapointment. 🙁 i always leave empty handed. i need to find a better target!
your salad looks so yummy!
lynn (The Actors Diet) says
i bought my husband a bag like that for his travels; have never even thought about stealing it from him for myself!
Erin @ Shortcut to Bliss says
Target was once a 3-4 x a week problem for me. I am now a recovering Target-Addict. =)
Stacy @ Every Little Thing says
Oh man, Target will do that. You go in for a sharpie and a pair of socks and you end up with 17 bags and two carts!
Diana @ frontyardfoodie says
Oh Target, they always get us when we least expect. Gotta love them though. Gorgeous briefcase.
Alaina says
I went to Bed, Bath and Beyond today and it was pretty busy. But I knew what I wanted so I was in and out.
That bread looks like a snoozefest. Where’s the grains? Where’s the toppings? Zzzz. 😛
Kara says
Target always sucks me in too! It’s getting better because I do my weekly grocery shopping there (it’s so much cheaper than the local grocery store!), but I still get lost on the baby clothing aisles!
Anna (twelve22) says
Heh, the dough rising in the sun looks familiar to me. I’m always trying to find the warmest place in the house when I make bread during the winter — sometimes on top of a radiator, and sometimes in a briefly-preheated oven.
Ashley@TheHungryScholar says
That is a good buy. I have to avoid Target so I don’t spend all my student aid 🙂
Mary @ Bites and Bliss says
Great find. Now I know where to go once I start traveling more. 🙂
Robyn @ Frugal 'n' Fit! says
Target makes everything better! Or worse, if we are talking about bank balances…:)
Allie says
Smart thinking to get the wheels! Target is pretty awesome in my opinion… but I tend to spend hours there haha. Lunch looked delicious! Sorry about the dry bread… @ least you have an awesome husband to make you fresh bread 🙂
stacey-healthylife says
Mmmmm homemade bread, so jealous.
Christina says
One thing I learned the hard way from a carry on where everything had to be just so- you’re always taking your laptop and stuff out for security, and it gets super annoying when you can’t just stick it back in.
Maryann says
Bags with lots of pockets for organization are the best!
Oh and I never cook, only assemble 🙂
J3nn (Jenn's Menu and Lifestyle Blog) says
Cute wheels! It’s important to be comfortable when traveling, especially when work is involved.
Sarah (Running to Slow Things Down) says
Target is horribly dangerous for me. I never walk out of there with just one bag. 😉
Lucky you for getting a fresh batch of bread in your near future! I can’t wait to see what kind it is. 😀
Allison @ Happy Tales says
That bag is ballin’! I have yet to understand the woes of carrying a lot of stuff around when I travel since I just started my blog. I have a feeling times are about to change. May have to look into this bag! And yes, I also find it hard to escape Target without straying from my list…
Katie says
wow that luggage looks amazing! i need one.
Amy at TheSceneFromMe says
Oh Target is like a vacuum with me, sucks me right in! I can’t walk out of there, ever, without buying anything! I love their stuff from stickers, to socks, to clothes to their brand of food items 🙂
Meagan says
Good idea on the bag. And assembled vs cooked is always faster. I do this alot! The bread rising in the sun is cute 🙂 I hope it’s delicious
CathyK @ www.1970kikiproject.wordpress.com says
you are so lucky to have target!!! canada = zero targets!! 🙁
i “targeted” my way around florida this past summer for two weeks…pretty much bought a new summer wardrobe, and passed many happy hours just wandering around!
congrats on your new shoulder-saving purchase, kath!
Kayla says
I get sucked into Target every time I go there. It’s a sickness. However nerdy me is totally jealous of your rolling briefcase!
Christine says
I’ve had to adapt a new Target strategy: main aisles only, look straight ahead, don’t stop until critical destination (i.e. toilet paper) has been reached. Turn around and repeat.
Jessica says
Bed, Bath, & Beyond and Williams/Sonoma are like that for me. I always seem to find something odd that I want. I’m oddly good at telling myself that in an apartment kitchen it just doesn’t make sense. Good for you for getting something you actually need, though! I usually come back with 1% what I needed and 99% clutter.
Hannah says
I just quoted Lord of the Rings on my blog – I can out-nerd you anyday 😉
megan says
Target is a pretty fantastic store! Doesn’t even compare to that other store with the blue letters.
Anna @ ciaotochow says
Ahhh Target is my downfall. It’s so funny because, though it opened years and years ago in my city, it still feels so new. Like, “Oh! I’m going to Target today!” I could literally spend hours in that store. As for your stubborn zipper, I’ve actually heard you should use a bar of soap on both ends of the zipper (and both outside and inside) to help it move smoother.
Sana says
I am dissapointed with things with wheels from Target. I bought a small suitcase for my trip to Europe and it broke as soon as I got there.
But I love Target and have no problem spending my money there!
Katie says
Ahhhhhhhhh Target sucks me in and then sucks the money out of me too! Love that place!
Love that suitcase too! I need a new one, but I would need a bigger one to go with that one!
Hope you have a great day today! : )
whitney says
target is always dangerous. I make sure that I never have anywhere to be when I go to target because a 5 min trip always turns into an hour escapade
Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin says
I wish I had my own Matt to bake me fresh bread too! 😉
Halley (Blunder Construction) says
One of my 2011 goals is to start traveling as a blogger, and it dawned on me that there is a lotta gear to lug around! Good to know what the pro’s choose 🙂
Angela (Oh She Glows) says
haha I love that the bread is warming in the sun!
