Time is of the essence today. I’ve got two big tests tomorrow and I’m not even close to being ready! I am meeting Victoria at 1pm to study at the coffee shop all afternoon, so I decided to make yoga my exercise for the day. I did a 60 minute flow in my bedroom just after getting up at 6 – Dave Farmar’s Power Vinyasa from YogaDownload.com. I liked it a lot and was really feeling the burn in the first 30 minutes. The second half was more balancing and stretching, but it was still enjoyable. And it went by so fast.
I came down and knew I wanted to cut into my mango, but I didn’t know what to do with it. I wanted oatmeal but I didn’t want to cook oatmeal. I wanted yogurt but didn’t know what else. I ended up coming a Better Whey yogurt with some cereal into this bowl:
I like these Better Whey yogurts, but I just prefer plain yogurt. These aren’t too sweet, but I think the flavor is just distracting.
The combo:
- Better Whey Peach Mango
- 1/4 cup AgavePlus Granola (love that!!)
- 1/4 cup Kashi GoLean
- 1/2 large banana
- 1/3 cup mango
- 1 tbsp blueberry preserves
- 1 tbsp flax
- 1 tbsp Barney Butter, scattered about
The whole time I was eating this I was wishing I had made oatmeal and coffee 🙁
English Breakfast tea with soy milk
Not sure what I am going to do about lunch with my 1pm meeting. Noon will be too early, so I might have to pack a sandwich and blog late this afternoon.
As of tomorrow night I’ll be finished with everything but final exams!! (And a generous handful of small things like proofreading, editing, etc.)
Hope your sun is out because mine is NOT!
Kara says
Lucky you that you’ll be almost home free! I am not that lucky with my assignments.
VeggieGirl says
Hang in there!! Hope time will be on your side today!!
No sunshine here either 🙁
Kristin @ Iowa Girl Eats says
Good luck studying – love that bowl btw – looks like it holds a lot! My kind of bowl 😉
Alison says
Do you find that you are a bit stiff doing yoga first thing in the morning? It feels so much better (and is more enjoyable!) if I do yoga in the afternoon, after I’ve been moving around all morning and am loosened up. I have no problem doing cardio or strength training first thing, but yoga is a different story…. Pilates too actually. Anyone else find this to be true?
Beadie @ What I Ate Yesterday says
My sun is not out 🙁
Good luck with the studying today!
Rose says
Hope you make it through today!

I couldn’t decide what to eat either so I just had a banana. And my sun isn’t out either. Just another gloomy, dreary day. Oh, as I typed that, Mr. Sunshine smiled at me!! Maybe he’ll come out after all!! Eeek!!
Have a great day, Kath!!
*smiles*

Olga says
Even though it’s not the usual oats, it still sounds like a great breakfast.
Good luck on your exams and studying!
Kailey (SnackFace) says
It’s drizzly and gray here- not the best, but at least it’s not 32* outside.
I had a very similar breakfast today! With plain yogurt, though, which I agree allows you to taste all the other flavors much better.
Good luck with all the studying! You’ll definitely have it down in time for the exams!
Leah A. says
My favorite mango breakfast is simply putting it over cottage cheese! Yum!
Run Sarah says
Good luck on your last exams! 🙂
Kudret says
My sun is out today!!! 55 degrees baby. Good luck studyingi for the exams. I’m studying for just one long-term exam> I can’t wait until summer classes start and I have regular exams…*sarcasm* should be duly noted.
EatingRD says
good luck with all your tests and finals coming up! I am feeling the pinch too and we are getting ready to move into a new place the weekend before finals . . . eek! I’m sure you already get this and know all this stuff, but this article was interesting about eating a big meal and still feeling hungry after — http://online.wsj.com/article/SB123966898930315491.html
have a productive day!

Hope your day goes better than expected. Yay for being so close to finished with your school work!
Natalie says
Good luck on your tests! 🙂
I’ve been looking around for those yogurts…still need to find them.
Michelle Hisae says
Oh the dilemma:
1. Not fully enjoy eating what you’re eating and not waste food
2. Start all over with the cooking process and waste what you just made but totally enjoy the new swap-out
Bec says
good luck with the tests!

I’ve been so inspired by your blog and your food (made parchment fish again last night) that I decided to mimic you in another way today. I got up, downloaded some yoga, and flailed around for 20 minutes. I am NOT flexible. I want to like yoga. I know yoga is good for me. I know that doing yoga will improve my flexibility. But when you can’t touch your toes, doing a lot of the poses is virtually impossible. Which leads me to my question…
Are there any of the 20 minute free yoga downloads that you think would be a good starting place for a non-flexible, yoga novice (despite many attempts) who wants to get a little morning activity in prior to work?
Thanks so much! Love your blog!
Hallie says
No sun here…which is rare! But my office doesn’t have windows so I can’t enjoy the sunshine even when it is out there. We’re heading into the cold & cloudy season for southern California..but we’re so spoiled the rest of the year that I can’t complain!
HeatherBakes says
Sorry about the disappointing breakfast 🙁 I actually used one of your pumpkin oat recipes this morning.
I can’t believe you’re almost done with all of your school stuff! Our semester is still just draggggging.
Brittany says
My sun isn’t out either. Good luck studying for exams!
coco says
sorry that you didn’t enjoy your breakfast, I hate when that happens… sometimes I dislike it so much that I just pack it and redo my favorite breakfast! 🙂
Erin says
No sun here in NJ either.
*cries*
Love your bowl (as usual).
skinnyrunner.com says
good luck with the tests! love the placemats, so cute.
Heather says
Good luck studying!! Thank goodness it’s almost over!
I tried Dave Farmar’s 90 imnute class and really enjoyed that one! Have you tried that one? Is it similar to the 60 minute?
Way to satisfy all the cravings at breakfast! I love the idea of mangos in the mix!
Danielle says
I hate when you are thinking about what you should have ate while eating something else!
Good luck studying!
Michelle says
OH NO!! Sorry to hear that breakfast left you unsatisfied and wishing for something else. Oatmeal really has its own magic! At least your breakfast looked delicious!!! You definitely had a wild blend of flavors going, but I”m totally with you! PLAIN is the way to go sometimes. Too many flavors = too distracting!
Sadly, the sun ain’t out here either, but I’m looking SOOOO forward to tomorrow when it’ll be 60 degrees out!!!
jennifer says
Interesting about the yogurt flavor… I hate plain (non-flavored yogurt) so I need a flavor! (vanilla and key lime are my faves)
Hannah says
Nope, no sun here either! I hope your day goes the way you planned. Have a great afternoon!
xox, Hannah
Lynne says
No sun today 🙁
Marissa says
Good luck!!
JENNA says
Someone asked you about if you are ever stiff in the morning when you do yoga….I was really curious about that too. Whenever I work out/do yoga in the morning I’m really too stiff and really don’t feel like I do as well. Did you ever have this problem? How did you overcome it?
FitzgeraldsCasinoReno says
No sun, that is a shame.
Angie says
Kath – just wanted to tell you how much I truly enjoy reading your blog! You are a great writer and photographer and always keep me interested in seeing what you are eating next. Thanks so much for sharing your life with us. You will be a great RD!
Kath says
Alison + JENNA ,
Yes, I am definitely more stiff in the mornings. My down dogs and forward bends are SO much deeper after a workout. But it only takes me about 10 minutes to loosen up. The stiffness makes it makes it all the more important!
EatingRD ,
Awesome article! Thanks for sharing.
Tina ,
LOL – “flailed around.” Which one did you do? Try the Gentle Hatha I and II and the Power Yoga #3 for Beginners.
Heather ,
I haven’t done the 90 minute class, but I imagine they are similar.
Angie ,
Thank you!
Kath
Tina says
I did Morning Flow #1. I’m sure it’s not hard, but I am not so good at grabbing my ankles or back bends. LOL
Thanks for the suggestions!
