We woke up to a very minor dusting of snow yesterday morning and, despite the fact that the roads were totally clear, school was cancelled. Hip hip hooray. (Don’t let the computer screen cloud my sarcasm!)
For breakfast I had the BEST overnight oats! I added a swirl of peanut butter INTO the oats the night before rather than on top, and it was so peanutty good! I also used quick oats instead of rolled, and I think they get such a great texture. Raspberries embedded throughout.
Mazen and I went to the gym mid-morning, where I did a workout and he socialized with his friends who all had the same idea. I hit up the elliptical, the sauna and the shower, and then we set off to have lunch with Matt.
Since Mazen usually eats lunch at school, he doesn’t get many opportunities to visit Matt at Ivy Provisions during the day for lunch, so this was a good day to go. Mazen got a tour of the walk in fridge, which he loved. He reported, “My daddy is the boss of the sandwich shop!” on the ride home.
He had a grilled cheese and kale salad (one of the few veggies he likes!), and I had the Superfoods salad with chicken on top. Needed to combine something cold with something warm!
Also, it was my first time having this flavor – very good!
After lunch we went to the mall for an indoor activity. First stop: the merry-go-round.
Followed by a haircut!
And then a little shopping.
These are not my favorite shoes, but I couldn’t resist because Mazen went ga-ga for them! They light up!
We stopped by Whole Foods for some dinner ingredients for tomorrow, and then we headed home where I had a warm mug of tea.
We invited the neighbors over to watch Moana in our basement after they raced laps on their bikes for a while. We all shared some Boom Chicka Pop – love that stuff!! They made a huge couch fort too.
Dinner was that awesome Blue Apron meatloaf with crispy potatoes and a kale salad. Loved this!!!
Did you guys watch The Bachelor on Monday?! Thoughts? It ended exactly the way I thought it would.
Also: who watches Nashville!!??? I am dying to discuss the latest plot events with someone who watches the show. I sobbed when I watched the last two episodes.

The snow looks so pretty! Living in Texas, we never had snow days growing up, but we did have “flood days” sometimes. I remember watching the weather in the morning and being SO excited if school is canceled. Which is kind of weird, because I generally really liked school…it just felt like a holiday!
KathEats says
I always looked for “Orange County Schools” on the TV growing up, and here in Virginia we have an Orange County Schools too and they flashed across the screen and I got excited even though I had zero desire for school to be cancelled 🙂

What a fun “snow day” you guys had. Super healthy lunch too!

Ughhhhh… Nashville!!! I was absolutely stunned by the turn of events, and have been torn about whether to continue to watch. I love all of the characters, but have to admit it’s been a bit tough to think of the show the same way now that it has changed so much.

Ugh – I work at a school board, and we always field interesting calls from parents on snow days. Where I live (rural eastern Canada), the decision is made hours before most people are even out of bed, and the weather doesn’t always live up to what’s anticipated. We had a crazy wind storm last night (my friend’s trampoline ended up in their trees) but thankfully the snow is gone.
I totally get Mazen’s shoe choice! We almost always go with actual running shoes for our kids (better support, I think?), but our 4 year old received a hand-me-down pair of Thomas-themed sneakers, and LOVED them.

Looks like such a fun snow day!! We got slammed here in philly… more with ice than snow though! And about the Bachelor. Oy vey. Yes, it ended exactly as I thought, too with him picking V. But they looked so awkward and unhappy on ATFR and the after-shows. I really liked her in the beginning but she faded on me after a while. The juicy gossip is that apparently she really didn’t get along with Rachel & Raven. And they both seem really sweet! Obviously I need warm weather to come back so I can get out again lol ; )
Kaci says
I need to catch up on the last two episodes!I Ihaven’t watched them yet because I knew I would cry!
Sam @ G & G Nutrition Co. says
We were supposed to get snow down in NC but we only got a dusting- and it had melted by lunch time 🙁
I stopped watching Nashville after it went off of ABC but I heard what happened! So crazy!
Have a great week 🙂

Yes, Nashville is so good! I had gotten out of the habit of watching, but then binged this season a couple weekends ago. I full on sobbed at one point during the last episode! I was thinking I wouldn’t like the show without the major character that left, but I loved this last one, so time will tell!
KathEats says
Totally agree with you!
Martha says
Wasn’t Matt working at a brewery? What happened to that?
KathEats says
He works at Ivy Provisions, a cool sandwich/salad/wine/brunch shop now
Jenny says
I love Nashville. What will they do without Rayna?!?! Also I am vacationing on Marco Island and saw your sister at the hotel gym yesterday. I didn’t want to bother her so I didn’t say anything!! She is lovely
KathEats says
Rayyyyna!!!
And yes!! Haha that’s hilarious you saw her. Say hi!
Sally says
Ugh, the Bachelor. It ended the way I thought it would too, but don’t you feel that their connection seemed so tense during the after show? I’m not sure they’ll last. I think he just really doesn’t know what he wants.
KathEats says
Yeah agreed. I think they could be really great together, but I think they’re a little too different, and I think they both have to work on themselves to be as confident as needed to know for sure if each other is the one.
Taryn says
I was hoping he would choose Raven – she just seemed so sweet! But he says he tends towards more strong personalities. I was disappointed in how they appeared on After the Final Rose. Can’t wait for Rachel’s season though.
Thoughts on Survivor so far? SO EXCITED for the new season!
KathEats says
I can’t wait for Survivor tonight! Aubrey is my winner pick because of Davidson loyalty, but I also love Andrea, JT, Ozzy, and Malcolm. Hope they all go far!
Katie @ Live Half Full says
We got about 6 inches of snow in Chicago, definitely not enough to cancel school in our parts! 😉 I loved how busy you guys kept- what a fun day!
Maria says
We had that Blue Apron meatloaf last week, too! It was delicious, but the glaze was SO spicy! My nose was running. 🙂
KathEats says
Yes! I only used half of the pepper, but I loved it!
Meag says
Snow! we had 16cm last night lol
Nashville – I was kinda over it until the big plot twists, which of course I had to watch but now I’m not sure what I’ll do. This season wasn’t what I was hoping it would be.
Bachlor – totally what I thought too!
Jenny says
Want some of our snow? ?
We got buried yesterday 3ft or so I’d say and it’s still coming down!!
KathEats says
Gosh I can’t imagine!
Linda @ The Fitty says
Good idea with the nut butter! I think I’ll try adding a tbsp of nut butter the into the sauce the next time I marinate it instead of adding it last on top.
Tracy says
The Bachelor ended as I expected also. And I agree with comments above that they seemed quite awkward on the after show. I have to say that I am SO SICK of Nick Viall. I’m disappointed that ABC put him on Dancing With the Stars. Looking forward to Rachel as Bachelorette!!!!
Jeri says
I know you’re happy, but I love that you and Matt have such a good relationship now that he still allows us to know what’s going on in his life as far as job and his relationship with Mazen.
Have you ever thought of getting a Soda Stream so you can make your own sparking fruit water? Really trying to give up soda and just go that route.
KathEats says
I have a Soda Stream now!! It rocks!
Kaci says
Ahhh just watched the latest episode of Nashville~Yes, a lot to talk about. Im assuming you mean the last scene…
emily says
we also had that meatloaf from Blue APron and thought it was DIVINE! The adobe chiles MADE it
Linda says
I got a good giggle out of your “snow day”! My daughter just moved to Charlottesville two weeks ago and she said she had a two-hour work delay yesterday. She FaceTimed me in the morning to show me what caused the delay! We’re from New Jersey and we had over a foot of snow yesterday! Regardless she loves her new home!
Regarding Nashville – I’m so sad! I will miss Rayna!!! Is it all over or will there be more episodes?
KathEats says
Tell her I say welcome to Cville!!
And there are more
leatitia says
I live in Quebec, Canada and the schools were closed here too. We didn’t get a dusting like you, we got over 4 feet of snow! Incredible. It was so slippery on the roads. I’m used to snow, but this was very scary. I almost got stuck trying to get my son from the school day care (which was opened?). Glad it’s over!!
Also, Hi Matt! It was fun to see him make an appearance in today’s post. 🙂
KathEats says
4 feet?! That is a crazy amount of snow.
Erin says
I saw that pic of Mazen in Ivy Provisions without reading the caption and thought, “That guy at the counter is smitten with Mazen!” Then I looked closer and saw it was Matt! ? Looks like an awesome ” snow” day!
Ieva says
Great Post!! I watch Nashville, need to catch-up though… Please don’t Spoil 🙂
