It was a runner girl day!! I was a little slow getting up and going, but had a great, fast run!
I came home to make a smoothie with the only remaining fruit in our house – some frozen berries!
Only to find that my camera was DEAD!! Wouldn’t turn on at all. I found this very alarming and odd and feared the worst, but just like Karl in the moving Sling Blade who checked a lawn mower and said: “Ain’t got no gas in it,” I decided to mini charge the battery.
Lucky me, that’s all the problem was. But that’s also odd because I never got a battery low warning. So this meant I had to wait patiently for 10 minutes to eat breakfast while the battery got a kick start!!
Test of willpower – this smoothie was killer! While I waited I made good use of time and packed a salad for lunch!
The base was 1 cup of milk with 1/2 cup frozen berries, 1/3 cup oats and 1 tbsp chia seeds. Then I added coconut, Cville Cluster granola (best ever!!) and some Cacao Bliss chocolate coconut butter blobs.
Delish!
And now I depart, battery charger in hand!
Miranda @ Working Mom Works Out says
That is weird. Breakfast looks yum though.
Khushboo says
Now that’s willpower! Those toppings steal the smoothie’s limelight 😀
Jenny @ Fitness Health and Food says
mmm those coconut chocolate butter blobs look soo gooeily delicious. Awesome job on your early am run, I hope you have a wonderful day! 🙂
Shelley says
Glad your camera is ok, if it was my camera i would have been worried too!! Your breakfast looks yum, a nice start to the day!!
Ashley @ Coffee Cake and Cardio says
Isn’t that the worst? I hate it when you’re out at an event, go to grab your camera, and boom… dead battery. Oh man, such a painful moment.
Love your bowl btw. Too cute!
Katherina @ Zephyr Runs says
That IS a test of willpower! Such a pretty color, too.
Krissy @ Shiawase Life says
Nom nom nom….I am planning on some smoothies later this week – we got a ton of spinach, bananas + strawbs @ Sam’s! Whooo!
Laura Jane @ Recovering Chocoholic says
Wow, I’m impressed that you actually waited ten minutes to eat the smoothie. I think I would have eaten and taken a picture of the empty bowl for the blog. 🙂 I’m so glad it was just the battery.
Baking 'n' Books says
I took my camera out on a walk to take pictures of the “scenery” the other day when it was nice out – and 10 minutes into it the battery died. So maddening! Maybe it gave a “low” battery signal but you didn’t notice?
Lauren @ Lawfully Wedded Wife says
Good thing it was just the battery! That smoothie looks awesome, don’t know if I would have had the same willpower! 🙂
Jessica @ How Sweet It Is says
That bowl is so pretty!
Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat says
Agh shame about the battery! I take the majority of my photos with my iphone (yes, nothing fancy, but they turn out even better than my camera!) and usually when my phone is running low on battery, I plug it in right away so I don’t have to run the risk of being without… because that would just feel wrong!! Have a good one Kath!
Cait's Plate says
Haha oh man – that’s the WORST feeling. There’s nothing more tempting than staring at a nice big bowl of breakfast and knowing you can’t eat it until you take the picture! Haha
Yay for another good morning run – I’m so envious!
Sarah says
That’s a beautiful bowl! I love eating out of beautiful bowls.
Morgan @ moments of mmm says
That is the worst feeling! [going to use the camera, and it’s dead!] I had to interview someone with a movie camera a few weeks ago, and when I arrived to speak to them, I realized the last student who used the camera did not charge the bats. Major Fail!
The smoothie looks delish though!
Bee Goes Bananas says
That bowl is super adorable! I love it!
Emily @ One Sweet Vegan says
That’s happened to me before too. I had no idea the battery was low. I love your bowl!
Gina @ Running to the Kitchen says
After just switching from a point and shoot to a DSLR I’m amazed at how long the battery lasts! I’ve yet to see a low battery light after 2 weeks of shooting!
Your smoothie toppings today look insanely delicious!
Jovita says
Looks so yummy! LOVE the bowl!!! Pleaaaase, where did you get it from?
KathEats says
It was a gift from Anthro
Christine (The Raw Project) says
Odd on the camera battery, I’d probably panic too. Breakfast looks amazing!
Tessa @ Amazing Asset says
Nice job on your speedy run this morning 😀
Kate (What Kate is Cooking) says
My camera battery always dies at the worst times!
Val @ Balancing Val says
I seem to be ok with the charging aspect . . .
But leaving the memory card in the computer is a different story!
Amelia says
My battery is flashing “low” right now and my charger is packed deep in our POD! Doh! I could have sworn that I packed it in my suitcase. I wonder if it’s worth it to purchase a second charger or dig through the POD?
At first glance (without reading) I thought that you made blueberry, cottage cheese oats, but after reading and a second glance I realized it was coconut on top! Very yummy creation. 🙂
KathEats says
Oh nooooo!!
Ma Fea says
I’ve said it before, but not often enough: thanks for your daily inspiration. Though I am far from an example of good health yet, my lifestyle and eating habits did a complete turnaround a year ago, when I discovered your blog. I feel so good about the choices I make now, and I owe it all to you. Thanks, Kath.
Mom says
Kaths’ dad and I have a fun saying, “This is a Katheats.com meal” when we cook like she does and toss in tons of healthy ingredients.
KathEats says
Hope you say that almost every night!
KathEats says
Thanks so much Ma Fea!
Robyn @ Blueberries and Oats says
Wow, that’s dedication!! It’s for that reason I love having two cameras! I don’t think I’d be able to wait, especially after a run!
That smoothie looks beautiful!
Anna @ Newlywed, Newly Veg says
Camera troubles always worry me– I would have had a mini-freak out!
Lauren @ What Lauren Likes says
Its a scary feeling when the camera won’t work!! I love the colour of the smoothie btw 🙂
Valerie @ City|Life|eats says
I love chocolate and berries together. SO good 🙂
Nikki T says
I must get my hands on some of this CVille cluster granola!!
Sabina says
A big WHEW! that it was only the battery! 🙂
If you can, pick up a spare battery. Ebay is wonderful for this – cost-effective and you don’t have to get a brand name battery. For my point-and-shoot, I picked up a battery for under $10. Having an extra battery means no more waiting patiently for batteries to charge. 😉
katie @KatieDid says
I’m finding lately that the only kind of smoothies that sit well in my stomach are dough boys! Anything too milky/ liquidy sloshes for hours but dough boys are thick enough and more ‘real food’ like to fill me up comfortably. Love them!
Angela says
Not good (camera – breakfast looks amazing!) and I would totally do the same!
Sue says
So funny, I actually just quoted that Slingblade quote yesterday as well – my boss asked me to fix her printer which was “jammed again.” Nope, just out of paper!
Roseanna says
Do you not have a spare battery? It’s so worth it; you just charge up the battery as soon as it runs out, and then you have a charged battery waiting for you as you use up the other one.
I’m considering even getting a third, but I sometimes go camping for a few days and have to make those two batteries last a few days of picture taking while I’m away from a power source.
Ally (Girl V Food) says
That happened to me the other day…I went to get my camera out and it immediately said “Charge your Battery”! I was like YOU NEVER TOLD ME YOU WERE DYING.
Estela @ Weekly Bite says
Such a gorgeous bowl!!
Becca says
I agree!
Rebecca says
Haha you are SUCH a blogger!! I never could have waited for the battery to charge! 😀
Laura @ Sprint 2 the Table says
Chocolate coconut butter? How have I not heard of this?! YUM!
Sarena (The Non-Dairy Queen) says
I hear ya on camera fears. My DSLR is not working and I’m using a point and shoot. I have to get it to the shop soon. I feel like something is missing since I can’t use it right now!
Monika @ Powered by paprika says
Your smoothies always look so good- I don’t think they would be enough to fill me up in the morning though!
Marissa says
Mmm, that looks delicious! I really need to branch out with my breakfast choices… in my mind, its always cottage cheese, oats, or pancakes. But I never think to have yogurt or smoothie bowls! Yumm at all those crunchy, delicious toppings… Our fruit stash is looking mighty pathetic too. All we have is about half a cantaloupe (which is a nasty one) and some green bananas. Meh.
Hope says
I’m glad that your camera is working. I hate when that happens! Love the color of the smoothie! Purple is my favorite 🙂
Susan (Oliepants) says
Is it sad that I’m super into the color of the smoothie first?! 🙂 Looks delicious and I’m really happy your camera is working.
Justeen @ Blissful Baking says
I hate waiting to eat breakfast! I would have skipped the picture and just dug in. You are a super dedicated blogger! 🙂
lynn @ the actor's diet says
boo battery! i’ve been burnt too many times before.
Jil @ Big City, Lil' Kitchen says
My camera has gone MIA … bah. It’s here somewhere, but who knows where. 🙂 Breakfast looks amazing though.
Kelly @foodiefresh says
You sound just like me! My camera never gives a low battery warning so my heart always skips a beat when I can’t get it to turn on. I should know by now, it’s always the battery!
Jackie @ That Deep Breath says
That smoothie looks awesome! I was trying to figure out for the longest time what the brown blobs were until I read it…duh….it’s too early for me to think.
I’m starting to get a little more creative with my breakfast choices. I used to just have a whole wheat english muffin w/ peanut butter…boring. This morning I tried overnight oats, which I found a little strange but pretty refreshing since it’s so hot out. I think tomorrow ill try a smoothie in a bowl. hopefully it tides me over!
Cait @ Beyond Bananas says
Holy will powers.. good for you! And I am super glad you used that will power so we could get a shot of the deliciousness you had for breakfast~
Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife says
yah gotta love those batteries!
Marisa @ Loser for Life says
That bowl (and your breakfast in it) is beautiful! 🙂 Have a great day at the bakery, Kath!
Natalia - a side of simple says
i bet your battery just KNEW breakfast would taste that much better after it “set” 😉
kaila @ healthy helper! says
Good thing it wasnt anything more serious with your camera!!!
Paige(Running Around Normal) says
You have more willpower than I! I think I would have said “screw it” and just ate my breakfast:) My camera battery dying always catches me off-guard
Cat @Breakfast to Bed says
love that bowl!!!
kris (everyday oats) says
The whole dead battery thing has happened to me WAY too many times. I always forget to charge my camera battery, especially when I need it the MOST…like at my sisters graduation, or when I was in the Amalfi coast. Seems like its my specialty to forget to charge things up.
Liv @ The Salty n' Sweet says
That smoothie bowl looks so delicious! I definitely wouldn’t have been able to resist slurping that up! And the cocoa butter globs look like the brownie bites from fro-yo shops!!! Yummmm 🙂
Heather @ Get Healthy With Heather says
I love your bowl! So cute.
JenATX says
do you ever just want to eat the bowl instead of waiting (obviously a yes answer)? Or do you kind of see it as your job or “duty” to give us glorious pics every morning, and so that outweighs your desire to eat right away? I’m really just curious & find it interesting!
KathEats says
It really wasn’t a big deal 🙂 I would have just broken out the point and shoot if it was. Also, if I’m ever stuck without my camera then it’s just tough for the blog!
Alli says
Chocolate coconut butter blobs…yum!
Beth @ DiningAndDishing says
That same thing happened to me once when I was STARVING! I think my roommates thought I was crazy for waiting a few minutes to allow my battery to charge :).
Allison @ Happy Tales says
Wow, that’s dedication to not just dive in and wait for the battery. I totally would’ve skipped the picture and enjoyed my meal, ha!
Grace @ Healthy Dreaming says
🙂 Amazing food! Have a wonderful day!
Monica says
I have these bowls from Anthropologie- don’t they have some of the loveliest dishware? They have great kitchen towels & napkins too!

you are so dedicated. what you do for us readers! so appreciated. glad the camera was ok in the end.
J3nn (Jenn's Menu and Lifestyle Blog) says
Weird that you didn’t get a warning! I would have feared the worst, too. Thankfully it all worked out. And that SIAB does look delish and worth waiting for. Yum 🙂
Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin says
Ahh the same thing happened to me! My battery just died so I couldn’t take a picture of the tempeh ratatouille I just made. I’m hoping I can get a good picture of the leftovers tomorrow. 😛

I’ve discovered a chocolate coconut butter here in Australia – it’s amazing!!
