Sporting Matt’s skiing turtle neck. It’s just like a big round cowl neck fleece that you can pull over your face. Worked like a charm on my bike ride. Although I thought breathing through it was quite disgusting, especially because I breathe pretty hard when I’m going up a hill. It was hard to get enough oxygen! So I had to pull it down on the hills and put it back on the down hills, but it still worked great.
Boy she’s a fast one!
My gym session was simple – biking, Stairmaster, some weights. BodyPump has made me want to lift more when I’m NOT in class – so I did a session with some of the bars in the weights area. It felt good! I also did my weights FIRST. I’ve always [always] been a cardio-first type, so this was a good change for me.
This soup was just as good today as it was Saturday!
An orange + ginger Siggi’s (LOVE this flavor!) with some Ambrosial.
And an orange
Super filling today!

3 Christmas Songs I Probably Should Hate But Actually Love
- “I Want A Hippopotamus For Christmas”
- The Chipmunk Christmas Song (I think I just like saying “Hoooola hoooop”)
- You’re A Mean One Mr. Grinch (a classic!)
And One Song I TOTALLY Left Off The Hate List
“Mary Did You Know” – all versions
Katie @ Healthy Heddleston says
Aww man you don’t like Mary Did You Know either??? My church choir has such a pretty arrangement that wen they sing it you can hear all the meaning behind the words.
Natalia - a side of simple says
I agree with you, Katie. I think it’s a beautiful song. The lyrics are so precious!
Michele @ Healthy Cultivations says
The Hippo song is FABULOUS!!!! Sometimes when I’m home alone and it comes on, I turn it up ALL THE WAY!!!! Then, I proceed to sing as loud as I possibly can!!!
Shannon @ Freshman Yr of Life says
haha Mary Did You Know!!! I went to a Catholic high school and that song will forever be stamped in my memory!
Stacy @ Every Little Thing says
I have a coupon for Siggi’s from Whole Foods, that flavor looks awesome!

Jess @ atasteofconfidence says

Heather (Heather's Dish) says
i adore the chipmunks Christmas song…it’s a classic!
Camille says
Ugh, I hate that song too! Blech!
mel says
Ive been doing weights first too lately and actually really enjoy it!! After I’m super sweaty after cardio I can just leave, instead of being super sweaty using the weight machines. haha
Krissy @ Make It Naked says
Go Ninja go! You’re so dedicated! As for Christmas songs…love the Home Alone sound track, Lady Antebellum’s version of Baby It’s Cold Outside is great and Christina Aguilera’s Oh Holy Night will make you belt it out! Merry Christmas!
Marisa @ Loser for Life says
LOL @ your ninja outfit!
Laura says
I love the additions to your “like” list! If you like silly Christmas songs check out “Penguin, James Penguin” by Brad Paisley.
Sophie says
Did you see Glee last night??? “Mr. Grinch” (or rather “Sue the Grinch”) last night was my favorite song. It was absolutely hilarious!!
Kath says
Yes! Loved it.
Angie @ Musings of a Violet Monkey says
It was great! Though who was singing it, had us completely stumped. Had to look in the liner notes to see that it was k.d. lang (!?!). Incredibly random. But fantastic.

Amelia says
Siggi’s yogurt is the BEST! I also love this new one I recently found, also low in sugar and high in yumminess: http://eating-made-easy.com/2010/07/22/product-alert-best-new-yogurt/
Nicole says
Love the orange themed lunch so pretty!
colleen says
Absolutely love the hippo song!!! You could say it’s my signature song. Heard it in high school and been spreading it to all my family and friends ever since. When i first mentioned it in college everyone that I was nuts and said it wasn’t a real song. Pulled out my tape (that dates me) and played it. Ever since, it has been a tradition of mine to make sure everyone listens to it at least once during the holiday season. You can’t listen to the song w/o laughing and smiling.
nicole says
Yes, I love that Chipmunks song!
Alicia says
You make such a cute ninja. The lunch looks super comforting!
Alexa @ The Girl In Chucks says
I just like saying “Hoola Hoop” too! <3
Kayla says
LOVE: Baby It’s Cold Outside, Sleigh Ride, I’ve Got My Love to Keep Me Warm, White Christmas, It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas
HATE: Mostly just contemporary artists doing contemporary versions of classic songs – especially O Holy Night! I like the song, hate the new-ish versions. There’s not many actual songs that I don’t enjoy, which is surprising since I carol every year and get to sing the same songs over and over…yet I still like them.
Shannon says
I’m going to body pump tonight. I love that class and do I ever feel it the next day!
Lauren says
Weights first is the way to go! I’m not sure as to the reason why from a physiological perspective (maybe increased muscle mass= more calories burned when resting, or less tired as you are doing them before cardio) but I noticed a HUGE difference in my body after making this little change. It made me so lean! Weights first is the only way to do it!
Veronica says
I read your blog ever day! I love the photos and your fun spirit. You’ve also provided me with tons of inspiration for new food combos.
I was wondering if you have any advice for someone who would like to start their own blog? I want to have my own site for it but have no idea how to go about it. I have been reading articles online but wondered if you have any “real world” tips.
thanks and keep up the great work!
Kath says
Thanks!
Meghann at Meals + Miles has a nice Blogging 101 series that might help you get started
Veronica says
Thanks for the advice : )
Barbara(Blood, Sweat and Heels) says
Yeah For wanting to lift! Strong is the new skinny girl! Dig it:)
Vanessa says
Love the Ninja pictures!! I agree with the Grinch and the Chipmunks song. I used to have the Chipmunks song on cassette tape when I was little and played it over and over and over..
Namaste Gurl says
I need to get me a fleece face cover as the one you’re sporting! 🙂 Definitely been in that circumstance…
Sarah @ See Sarah Graduate says
Ugh, it’s sooooo cold here too! I’ve been dying to run outside instead of on the dreadmill but it hasn’t gotten past 20 degrees since Saturday! Not to mention there’s 8 inches of snow on the ground. :/
I don’t think I’ve been so excited to go to my boot camp workout tonight… well, ever. 🙂
Kate (What Kate is Cooking) says
I also had soup and yogurt with granola for lunch and I’m about to have an orange! Great minds..
The Wife of a Dairyman says
That soup looks perfect on our rainy northern CA day we’re having!
Mary @ Bites and Bliss says
I’ve always been one to put cardio before weights, too. Although lately I’ve split it to before and after. 😛 Nice way to mix up the workout a bit.
L says
Have you ever heard “Dominick the Donkey”? Hilarious.
Anna @ Newlywed, Newly Veg says
lol…my aunt sings “Mary Did You Know” every Christmas, and we all secretly make fun of it. We’re a nice family like that 🙂
Shannon @ A Better Me says
I actually like “I Want A Hippopotamus For Christmas” too 😀
Matt says
Hippopotamuses like me TOOoooo

Hannah says
So much orange! Definitely getting all your vitamin C 😛
Gabriela @ Une Vie Saine says
Ughhh I hate Mary Did You Know as well!! Completely forgot about that one…thankfully I like most of the “popular” ones!
Cara Craves... says
I really dislike “I saw Mommy Kissing Santa Clause”
For one…does anyone think about mommy cheating on
her husband? What’s up with that 🙂
Michele says
YOU seriously hate “Mary Did You Know” – SERIOUSLY???
Amy Pea says
Three more hideous Christmas songs:
“The 12 Days of Christmas That’s Such a Pain To Me” – don’t know who sings it, sounds like a choir of bad actors. Very negative and Scrooge-ish…
“I Wanna See Christmas in Your Eyes” – Gloria Estefan. Too cheesy for its own good!
Jewel’s version of “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” – UGH…if you hear it you will understand why.
Rachael says
It’s better to do you weightlifting first because weight lifting only uses carbohydrates as energy while running can use both carbohydrates and fat (except that it uses the carbs first). So if you do cardio first you use up all of your carbs and cannot gain as much out of lifting weights. However, if you lift weights first, when you do your cardio, you will switch to burning fat quicker. 🙂
Lauren says
I HATE that song too! I feel bad for hating it because I think it goes against the real meaning of Christmas but I just can’t help it, the song makes me cringe. Bring on more Chipmunks!
Laura @ Sprint 2 the Table says
Go ninja, go ninja, go! Haha!
Agreed on the Mary song. Drives me up the wall. 🙂
Heidi - apples under my bed says
I do not know this Hippo song you speak of, but I now feel compelled to investigate… 🙂
Heidi xo
Michelle (The Runner's Plate) says
I can’t breath through any type of material when exercising (which is primarily running for me), so I know what you feel like. I have yet to try that flavor of Siggi’s–it sounds good!
Amanda @ Vegacious says
My husband likes listening to the Chipmunk song just to listen to me sing along on “hoooooola hoop!” It’s kind of addicting….
barefootgirl says
a little behind the 8 ball on this discussion…..
strongly dislike the “mary” song..
other than that.. I really enjoy most carols… however, given the fact that my son( who is in the Navy) just this last Sunday for his first deployment to the Persian Gulf ….. “I’ll be home for Christmas ” of any way shape or form is not welcomed here…..
in fact.. I have renamed it ‘the stupid song’.. at least for this year..
and don’t EVEN get me started on the Folger’s commercial…… *snif*
Donna says
I agree that “I’ll Be Home For Christmas” sucks to listen to when you have a loved one who WON’T be home for Christmas! My husband was deployed last year and had to turn that song off every time I heard it. Good luck to your son.
Alyson @ Nourished Fitness says
If anyone dislikes ‘You’re a Mean One Mr. Grinch’ .. they need to take a trip to Whoville, because they’re crazy.. ok or maybe just being Grinchy :p
Sarah (Running to Slow Things Down) says
Haha…*love* the hippo song!
I need to get myself a cow necked shirt for running in the winter. That would come in so handy! 😀
Erica D @ Gratitouille says
Weeee can haaaaaardly stand the wait, please Chriiiiiistmas don’t be laaaaaate!
I used to perform with a regional choir; once, at a rehearsal at a theatre venue, that song was in the background, and my choir director made the playful observation, “Oh! I think I hear the sopranos.”
kaila says
i totally HATE mary did you know too!!!!! so awful! it shouldn’t even be put in the same category with xmas songs!
Eileen says
We discovered the Hippo song last year, and my kids cannot get enough of it.
I’m pretty much a sucker for Christmas music. Not sure if anyone has suggested this between this thread and the morning thread, but one of my favorite Christmas albums is “We Three Kings” by the Roches. There are a couple of clunkers, but mostly excellent 3-part girl harmonies. 🙂
Melissa @ I Never Imagined says
Haha! You’re such a cute ninja!!
Nelly@CrazySexyFit says
I hate that song too! It’s just so maudlin, so treacly! Ugh!
I do have a soft spot for “All I Want For Christmas Is You,” though. Probably because I ADORE “Love, Actually” 😀

Kath-
I leave in the Cleveland area and it can get very cold.
I love running, but don’t love using the treadmill, and usually do less running more elliptical/stairmaster workouts. Any suggestions for key gear I should buy to make running outside manageable? I look on Amazon or even at Dick’s, but I rather ask an avid runner!
thanks!
Kath says
I recommend a moisture wicking shirt and a fleece. The rest of the stuff is stuff you probably already have on hand – gloves (running gloves are better though), a hat, yoga pants or running tights.
Amy says
I LOVE I want a hippopotamus for Christmas! So cute!
BTW, What about the Christmas shoes song? Blech! I always skip that one. If your mom is dying, buy her medicine, buy her a blanket, don’t buy her a pair of shoes.
Alaina says
The ninja shot is too cute. 🙂 I’ve heard about Icelandic yogurt. I think I saw in on Andrew Zimmern’s show on the Travel Channel.
One Christmas song that I do absolutely love is Breath of Heaven by Amy Grant. Not gonna lie…
J3nn (Jenn's Menu and Lifestyle Blog) says
Love Siggi’s! It’s my favorite yogurt these days.
M. Carter @ the Movies says
Who DOESN’T love singing the “hooooola hoooop” part?!?
ashley nicole says
i LOVE that spoon in your yogurt! where’s it from? i’m always on the look for fun dishes 😉 have a great day, Kath!
