At 11am we were debating our lunch plans. I decided I wanted to break a sweat before my official shower of the day, so I headed out on a 5K quick run.
Despite my sleep deprivation, I ran super fast – mile two was in 8:09!! I think because yesterday was a bit of a rest day!
Then we rounded up the troops and went out brunching
Could not get enough water! And also could not stop sweating! No air conditioning in this casa is most difficult after a hot run – even with a cold shower!
We had a 30 minute wait, so while I chugged water, the boys chugged beers. They never stop! Canada (aka Chris) and Kanz were college roommates for 4 years!
Matt got the Dogfish Head Dry-Minted Stout. It was INCREDIBLE!!!!!!!! Thick, chewable, minty like a thin mint. Not what you’d typically think of for a beer flavor, but it really worked. I ended up stealing about half of his pint in sips.
For lunch I ordered a Tomato Bisque that really hit the spot
And a salad with fennel, orange, apple, arugula and a blueberry-mint dressing. Mint was the flavor of the day!
After lunch we went to the bakery for some paperwork + bookkeeping
And I had most of a Savannah bar for dessert. Love these so much!
We’re back home, tired as can be. I kind of want to take a nap, but I wonder if it will disrupt my sleep cycle! I’d like to do some reading but I’m 100% sure I’d fall asleep if that happened. I also need to make a video for OpenSky!
Short, short weekend.
Baking 'n' Books says
You are non-stop. Take a break somewhere along the way! I wish I could go out to brunches with you – all my friends don’t typically opt for the salads alas.
Your fast – that’s a speedy mile!
Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife says
I say take a nap! I love naps, especially if they are short enough to tide you over for the rest of the day w/out ruining the sleep cycle.
Your salad looks realllyyyyy good!!
Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga says
Looks like such a good time with friends and nothing like a really mellow, lowkey, quiet weekend for you. <—kidding! 🙂
And as I am looking at the shot of Matt at the bakery, I am instantly thinking that the countertop, the space, the lighting…would make for a PERFECT food photography studio or place to take some amazing pics. The windows, lighting, long and big work surfaces…oh there is just so much you can do with that space other than serve great bread, of course 🙂
Cait @ Beyond Bananas says
Great job onthe run. I hate it when I feel like there is NO way for me too cool off after running. I debate taking ice baths sometimes. haha
Katie @ Nourishing Flourishing says
Hope you can squeeze some rest in 🙂 My husband has a ritual of taking just a 15 minute nap every Sunday after we eat breakfast. It is miraculous what a little snooze can do… But, you don’t want to throw off your sleep game either 😉
Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
Allie (Live Laugh Eat) says
Thin mint beer? I want! How about a Samoa beer? 🙂
Marissa says
I’ve gotten into this habit (now that I’m staying up to like 1 AM every night while still getting up at 7 AM–AHH!) of taking a 20 minute cat nap in the afternoon around 2/3 PM. Usually its unintentional (I’m usually reading, or TRYING to read, my school-assigned summer reading) but I’ve actually really been enjoying them–and they let me keep up my newly developed, sleep-depriving bad habit (that I love!)
Simply Life says
oh that soup looks incredible!
lynn @ the actor's diet says
every time you post a pic of those savannah bars i swoon

When it’s warm weather out I’m so thirsty after my runs. Just can’t get enough water.
Michelle (The Runner's Plate) says
I had a piece of Great Harvest bread after my marathon yesterday (they were serving it at the race), and I thought of you!
Lauri (Redheadrecipes.com) says
I don’t how you guys survive without AC!!! Hardcore! I have the temp set to 76 w/ the fan on and its still kinda hot in here…
This was a short, short weekend! And I am debating on a nap too…
cathy says
don’t nap!! a nap WILL hinder your sleep tonight, i am willing to bet $ on it!!!
(a suggestion from the girl who also can’t have caffeine after 11 a.m.!…)
Kate (What Kate is Cooking) says
I can’t nap- I end up sleeping way longer and then I can’t fall asleep at night!
Christine (The Raw Project) says
Wow, busy day! I’m not a napper, I find it causes problems with sleeping at night and I never feel energized after. Take some rest time today just reading or chilling and go for a good nights sleep tonight.
Ashley @ Coffee Cake and Cardio says
Great job on the run this morning! I’m with Cait— sometimes an ice bath is just the ticket!
The Healthy Engineer says
I agree about the short short weekend. Now that I have classes starting again on monday, I’ll actually know what day of the week it is 🙁
Abby says
8:09! Look at you speedy! 🙂 That’s awesome!
Meredith says
Chewable beer???
MeredithC says
I wondered that myself…
Cait's Plate says
Oh man, after I run I sweat like a maniac! It’s so awful. Makes it really difficult to go running before work because I literally drip for the next 1/2 hour! Haha
Bee Goes Bananas says
Mmm that Savannah bar looks delicious!
Kristen @ Change of Pace says
Oh my goodness I wouldn’t survive without AC. I’m a weenie haha! I have a ton of mint growing in my garden so I’ll have to put it to some good use 🙂
Hannah says
Ah, the eternal nap now vs sleep later dilemma… hope you were able to do both! 😀
Katherina @ Zephyr Runs says
Your life stresses me out and I’m not even living it! I’m impressed with your capacity to handle all kinds of different things going on in your life. That necklace in your water picture is really pretty, btw.
Ellie@fitforthesoul says
haha that’s funny Katherina~yes Kath, you’re so diligent and like a machine! As long as you’re healthy and not overworked, it’s great that you’re so active in every way 🙂
Carey @ Positively Blonde says
I was looking at TMZ the other day and there was a ad for Open Sky with your pic!!
Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin says
I ran at 8 minutes per mile today… but only for 1 minute intervals on the treadmill! 😛 That’s awesome you were able to keep up that speed for a whole mile! Sounds like a killer run!
hemp jogger says
were you guys at beer run? bc i’m dying to try that beer!
KathEats says
Yes, go there now!
Lindsay says
Do you not have air conditioning in your place, or have you just chosen not to turn it on because of the cost? I personally could not live in a place without air, but that is because I would NEVER sleep. I have to be COLD to sleep! 🙁
KathEats says
We have it but we don’t use it because of #1 cost and #2 we like warm weather. We have lots of fans!
Becky says
You must have been just a few hours ahead of us at Beer Run! Mike, Paul, David and I went there today and enjoyed some great food and beer! There is a picture of us on my Facebook page.
KathEats says
Oh man – we must have just missed you!!!

Ironically the intensity of my tired workouts always surprises me! Although I’m right about ready to crash once I’m done! Nice going on the 8.09 pace! I was pleased to run a mile at 8.50 🙂
Rebecca says
Wait a minute — you don’t have air conditioner?? And you’ve never complained before! Kudos to you!
PS – I had tomato bisque for the first time the other day and it was soooo good and creamy!
KathEats says
We have it, we just only use it in the dead of summer – late July!
Tina says
So odd that I stumbled into your blog, because we’re practically neighbors. I live out at Lake Monticello and thought the backgrounds in your pics looked familiar…I was at Beer Run on Saturday. Love their food and beer and will definitely try this one out next time!
