Girl’s Day Out jewelry! I have never had a bigger crush on every.single.piece of jewelry a designer makes. But Amy out our local farmer’s market has an amazing eye for creating vintage-y pieces with a modern flair. Or is it modern pieces with a vintage flair!? Either way, love her things {and her displays!}
Lucky for me I can browse in person at the market, but lucky for you she has an Etsy shop too.
Matt got me these earrings for Mother’s Day and I adore them.
Especially since I can no longer wear dangles or they get pulled out by grabby hands!

The gold necklace I’m wearing above, which was a gift from my sister for being in her wedding party. It’s from The Jewel Box near Davidson College and I love the simplicity of it. It goes with everything!
#3
Also a gift from my sister, this clutch!
Another Etsy find from Jenna Lou Designs, Larbs gave them to her bridesmaids each with a different pattern design on the inside. Guess what she picked for me!! It has become my new date night purse. A refreshing change from the giant diaper bag I usually carry around.

This hair spray! I finally jumped on the Birchbox bandwagon and this has been my favorite product to date. I have always longed for the curly type of hair that loves to be spritzed with yummy smelling hair products. Sadly my very straight, fine hair looks greasy with almost everything in it. But not with this Beauty Protector spray! The absolute best part goes far beyond any hair care needs – it’s the SMELL that has me using this daily. Love it.

This post is sponsored by my sister! She got me into this Wella shampoo and conditioner too. Again, it’s the smell that draws me in. The conditioner, er “Hair Mask” warms up to the touch. It’s magic!
That’s all for today!
Jackie says
Where can you get the shampoo?
Farah @ Fabulously Farah says
Thanks for sharing! I really need to jump onto the Birchbox bandwagon as well.
Ali @ Peaches and Football says
Kath, what do you think of Birchbox? I’ve been thinking about signing up but wasn’t sure if the samples seemed like practical stuff or more random things you only use here and there. Would appreciate the inside scoop!
I love those little flower earrings. I’d want some in all kinds of colors so I could coordinate with my outfits. I wear headphones at work a lot and hoops or big dangly ones get caught in the cords.
KathEats says
I’m so-so. I love about 25%, like about 50% and dislike/would never use another 25%. I love when they send full size things (LOVE the latest matte lipstick I got!) and even the smaller samples are great (the hair spray) but not really into single serve packets of a lotion or shampoo or things. Too hard to use.
C says
I’ve been getting Birchboxes since Feb 2012 and I think the quality of samples has improved! I feel like I’ve had a full-size sample in maybe 5 of 8 boxes this year? You can log into your account and switch your preferences–I felt like I was getting too many lotion samples, so I edited my profile in the section that says “I can never have too many…” and voila! Fewer body & bath products, more haircare products! You can also get “Birchbox points” for every review you leave on the website and use them as credit if you buy anything from the store.
Brenda says
I know you were asking for Kath’s input, but just for another perspective- I’ve been getting a birchbox for around a year. Every month I think “maybe i’ll stop getting this” but for $10/month, like Kath said, they often send one full-size product that is easily $25. For example I’ve gotten several Stila products (like a giant full size bronzer), and I really like a lot of the perfume samples (surprisingly). They also send a lot of sample-sized hair products (I also got the spray that Kath used, but it left my hair a bit deflated) but I am able to use the samples when traveling- they all fit under the 3 ounce requirement. I took almost only Birchbox samples on a recent 3 week trip around the world and they worked incredibly well! It also got me on the BB cream train, which I am grateful for. If you’re a traveler or a product junkie, I’d give it a try.
Laura says
I gave my bridesmaids a subscription to Birchbox and they all loved it. I used Birchbox for about a year-in the beginning I loved the stuff and then I felt like the stuff I like dwindled and I received less full size items. One time I received one individually wrapped chocolate covered potato chip-One!!! Come on. I also got sick of getting a perfume sample every single month-I would have liked other items.
I ended my membership with them and switched to Stridebox-a box for runners-and I love and use everything from that box!
Alison @ Daily Moves and Grooves says
Those necklaces are gorgeous! I love your “K” necklace too. I’m a huge fan of simple, yet elegant jewelry.
Ashley @ Hudson on the Potomac says
Obsessed with the second necklace from the right in the first picture! Might just need to check out her Etsy store! I also love the necklace and bag Larbs gave you as bridesmaid gifts. She certainly has an eye!
Melissa says
Ahh, I LOVE jewelry made locally like that! It’s always the best!
dee says
love the necklace! i’ve also been trying to find another shampoo & conditioner set for a very long time. will have to try these out. thx 4 the recommendations! : )
Brittany (Healthy Slice of Life) says
Oh that clutch! I love it! I never carry a bag other than my diaper bag now and I should really look into switching things up 🙂
Tonya says
hmm I’d say the jewelry is more vintage w/ a modern twist. 🙂 Very cute but I never feel that I can pull of “delicate” jewelry. I’m more of a “big bold statement piece” kinda girl. I would like to try a few subtle pieces one day and see how I carry it off.
Anele @ Success Along the Weigh says
Oooh, all great picks! Love the jewelry and that clutch is SUPER cute!
Happy weekend!
Madison says
I LOVE those necklaces!!!! I will definitely check out the Etsy store. Thanks for sharing!

crazy — i ordered the same clutches for my bridesmaids, off etsy! (hope none of them are reading this comment, haha!) i went with different colors though. such a fantastic, artistic piece!
Christine@ Apple of My Eye says
All of the pieces you listed are SO gorgeous!! I’m in love 😉
Lauren @ The Highlands Life says
I love that jewelry! I love how vintage/modern it is and could go with a lot of casual outfits to kick it up a notch.
Shannon ~ My Place In The Race says
Love, love her stuff! Going to check her shop out now! 😀
Erika @ fortheloveofpeanutbutter says
Love those earrings!
Rebecca says
‘pieces with a modern flare. Or is it modern pieces with a vintage flare!?’
It’s neither, because the word is flair.
Christina @ The Beautiful Balance says
I have extremely curly hair and I can tell you that the product process for curly hair is not all fun and games and product that smells delicious. Curly hair is a pain!
Nicole says
“Amy out our local farmer’s market has an amazing eye for creating vintage-y pieces with a modern flare. Or is it modern pieces with a vintage flare!?”
It’s actually neither! Because it’s “flair”. 😉
KathEats says
Ugh. I can never remember that one!
Lee says
Really, who cares?? I didn’t realize that people read this blog to comment on grammar when you know damn well what she’s talking about.
Nys says
I’m not sure why you are so upset, Nicole pointed out the typo in a perfectly friendly way and Kath seemed fine with it.
Lucy says
Agree with lee on this one.!! Very picky
Kaila @healthyhelperblog! says
LOVE LOVE LOVE the K necklace! I want to get one of those! 🙂

HI Kath,
I’ve been following your blog for about 2 years and have loved it. I’ve found it really interesting and inspiring and I never thought i would be one of those people that give negative feedback….. but I have to say ( and sorry to be a grump)- I am really not loving all the product placement/product sponsored content. I know you have to make a living but I follow blogs like yours for inspiration on healthy living and lifestyle and its starting to feel a bit like products are being shoe horned in all over the place. Its such a shame, perhaps you could split out or colour mark sponsored posts so its easier for your readers to go to things they are interested in? Le
KathEats says
I’m sorry you feel that way, but thanks for the feedback. None of these products are sponsored, FYI, but in general I’m going to start putting the sponsorship disclaimer at the top of posts so they are easier to skip if you would like. Please do note that KERF has been sponsored for most of its existence – the sponsorship has just been on the sidebar instead of the top/bottom of individual posts. Regardless of sponsorship, my opinions are always my own.
Tasha says
I’ve been feeling the same way with the blog world lately and have stopped reading several blogs that I had previously enjoyed. I keep hoping that katheats finds its way back toward what it was—not necessarily the content but the general feel when reading it. In general, it feels fake to me. I love your posts about your family, recipes, your comings and goings, etc and that it was not an obsessive dialogue about some diet or exercise fad at you are into. But the sponsered post shift just seems like a product push. Back in the day, your product post were helpful hints such as creative wats to use something and true finds that you came across while shopping or spending time with friends and family sometimes they were awesome and other times flops—now it’s product that some random company sent you to try out. I get that people change and that your blog will change to fit who you are becoming—and I would love to read about that–not some sponsered post about some random product because that is more a change to product marketing.
I don’t expect your blog to change for me–just wanted to share what I’ve been feeling. I know that many of your readers enjoy your posts–another funny observation–most of the positive comments seem to come from other bloggers though!
Tasha says
I do want to add that this post did not feel the way I mentioned above. I just was responding to the general feel of sponsored posts is all!
KathEats says
Tasha, I just wanted to point out that these products in this post are random finds. I enjoy writing these posts so that’s why I’ve done more lately. I’m striving for a balance of Lately food posts, weekend/family/travel posts, food topics like gardening, snacks or nutrition and recipes. I can’t please everyone, so I’m trying to keep things varied.
Live Love Yum Well says
I think the feeling is that even if these are just ‘things you like’, it can come off as a bit ‘fake’ because guaranteed a company will get traffic from this or see this post and you’ll get freebies or something from it. It’s not the first time that’s happened on most blogs and every blog is doing it because of it. To think it won’t happen is naive and silly. It can just be annoying that’s all….I’m not saying its wrong or judging you…it’s just human nature I guess to be annoyed or even jealous or turned off by the ‘fakeness’, the Ameicam selling factor. Just an aside perspective.
Ray says
I enjoy your random finds posts. But I must confess that these days I’m always wondering if you bought the item yourself or got it for free. I think it’s because you have increased the number of sponsored posts, it makes me start to question the story behind all the products you mention. I think this is the trade off you are making – shifting to more sponsored posts earns more money for your family but you lose some authenticity in the process.
KathEats says
I’m required to tell you if I got it for free so you don’t need to wonder
Hope says
Many of your sponsored posts have caused confusion about whether you are being paid or not. I’ve seen many people ask and then you have to go change the way you wrote it because it was unclear. I think Ray had a valid point.
Also, I really like your blog and I like the new posts that have been added in but I will agree with others that I’d like to see more about food. The lately posts have me feeling like I just want to get through it as some of the others have mentioned.
This is your blog and you haven’t asked my opinion but as a reader I’m just trying to politely tell you what I think.
Ray says
Hi Kath, I know it’s been a couple of days but I just saw your response. I did “have to wonder” just a couple of days ago when I asked you to tell us if you paid for that cheese tasting at Whole Foods. You did not clearly state in your post that you got it for free; you thanked the cheese guy for his hospitality which is totally unclear. I mean, I just stayed at a bed and breakfast and I thanked the proprietors for their hospitality but I still had to pay them. This is one example to support my original comment above that some of us readers are left guessing if you get the things you write about for free.
I appreciate that you responded to my comment but your response reads to me as sort of snippy and dismissive. However it is hard to understand tone over the Internet and it could just be because you didn’t end your sentence with a period. I hope it is the latter because I don’t want to think that you were being rude.
kathy says
I like this post. It’s not a sponsored post and she’s just sharing with us what she likes.
Kori says
I absolutely love all your posts Kath, and I love the new direction that KERF has taken. I really enjoy learning about new products, sponsored or not. Also, I love your recaps of visiting places such as Colonial Williamsburg and General Mills. Keep it up, Kath! You are doing a fantastic job!
KathEats says
Thanks Kori!
Alex @ Kenzie Life says
I’m going to have to check out those hair products! I’m really familiar with lots of makeup and facial products, but not so much hair ones. Thanks for the ideas!

Im giving my 2 gals clutches from Jenna Lou for my wedding in 3 weeks!! LOVE THEM! Got one for myself to match 🙂
Rick says
I meant gift…. not girl.
Rick says
I don’t really know about beauty products or jewelry stuff. However I’m looking for a gift for my girlfriend and I think those are something she might like. So I’ll definitely browse the shop Etsy.
Mandy says
There was some discussion above about these product posts. I’m also a long time reader, commented once or twice. It seems like you don’t really talk about food that much anymore, except for everything you ate one week in one big post called Lately. For me, it’s not enough food talk on a daily basis when you’re talking about products/baby stuff/whatever you’re up to, and waaaay too much food talk on the days when you recap everything you ate that week. Obviously, this is just my personal opinion, but, I can’t get through the lately posts, even though I started reading your blog because I wanted to know what you were eating. It’s just too much all at once, I can’t focus on the good stuff, it’s like I’m just trying to get through it! I, too, care about eating “real food”, but I’d actually rather see daily posts with your meals than all of this product stuff and then posts packed with 20+ meals that are difficult to get through.
Honestly, it’s KathEats – THAT is what I care about!
Haha, not that you asked my opinion. I know it’s probably tough figuring all of this out. I saw the discussion above and thought I’d throw in my opinion too.
strawberry says
I agree. Lately is way too much random meals without any context and which ones went with each other, so they don’t make sense in terms of a day. Also I thought we would see more nutrition posts considering your degree, Kath?
I understand you find blogging about makeup and jewelry fun but there are so many other blogs focused on that.
Lea says
Strawberry and Mandy articulated what I’ve been feeling about the “Lately” posts, too. You said you were trying to show how to eat real food 90% of the time, etc., but you can’t do that when you cluster all of the meals together by time of day, then break out the special meals into separate posts… we can’t see your “squiggly line” in action, or the balance among your daily meals.
Janet Sarandon says
Wow! I love this collection! I want #3 product. It’s so pretty! 🙂
efd says
i love these posts! thanks kath.
Deb @ Dietitian Debbie Dishes says
I absolutely love that clutch! I have been looking around forever for one I like – may just have to pick one out this weekend! 🙂
Ellie@Fit for the soul says
Those necklaces in the 3rd picture are just gorrrrgeous!!! So simple and unique.
Dary says
My anniversary with my girlfriend is almost here. We’ve been dating for about 9 months and I was think about getting her jewelry and I just love that #2 necklace. Her name starts with a K so I think that it would be great if I could get 2 necklaces. One with D and the other with K so I would give her the one with D for me Dary and I would wear the one with K for her. ALthough I don’t know if there’s other letters for that necklace.
Danielle says
I don’t mean to hijack the thread but they do come in different letters. You can find tons of necklaces like that on etsy. My friend gets on with her kids initials on them and keeps adding to her chain.
Tiffany says
Hey Kath,
Is whole grain sprouted wheat flour as good as 100% whole wheat or does this include white refined flour?
Thanks!!
KathEats says
Yes, if it’s 100% whole grain then it’s the good stuff.
Christine Derrel says
Wow, that jewelry looks sooooo pretty!!!! I wish I had something like that!!!
Wendy says
Great Post. I will have to check out her Etsy shop because those necklaces are so my style.
I read some of the comments about too many sponsored posts and i must say that i really like the balance that you have found with those. And through them i have found new products that i really like. I think as readers of your blog we need to realize that not every post is going to applicable to us. As a whole though, i find your blog entertaining, educational and informative.
Anna @ Fitness à la Anna says
I will definitely have to check out the Etsy shop – those necklaces are so cute! Thanks for sharing 🙂

I love the anchor necklace in the first pic! Being a Delta Gamma, I’m naturally drawn to those anchors! 😉 Thanks for sharing the Etsy link!

Ooh, I loved looking at these. I’m always heading to the market and picking up bits of pieces from the locals here in Bondi, Sydney. We have a great market right near the beach. Love Etsy but browsing markets in definitely a winner. Thanks.

Just bought a necklace from Girls Day Out! Thanks for the tip! Gorgeous pieces.

Hi Kath- I am wondering what size your clutch is? There are 3 different sizes (5″, 7″, and 8″) offered and I am about to order one. Thanks!!
KathEats says
I’m pretty sure it’s the 8″ (it’s not the 5)
Vivian says
I have a “V” golden necklace just like your and it was a gift from my brother 🙂 Imagine that!
