Here are some of my new finds from the past few months aka things I’m loving!
New Finds for the New Year
Every now and then I like to round up new things I’m loving or purchases we’ve made. Here is the latest batch with our new coffee bean grinder, a few internet finds, a nonalcoholic mezcal, and more!
Life is extra fun when your brother lets you play with his Legos
Burr Coffee Grinder
For years we ground our beans at the big Whole Foods grinders when buying our coffee. We usually go through 1.5 12-ounce bags per week, so we would grind the first bag in the store and the second at home in a tiny spice grinder I’ve had for 10 years.
Then during the pandemic the grinders were shut down, so we did ALL the beans in the tiny grinder. It took multiple rounds of grinding to do a bag and it was messy – grinds all over the counter.
As the person who grinds the coffee, Thomas bought this OXO Burr Coffee Grinder on a whim, and it’s been LIFE CHANGING! Why did we not get one sooner? Not only does it fit a whole bag in the top, but you grind just what you need, to the exact size you want, every day. Saves time. Saves mess. Fresher coffee. Triple win!
My Rainbow Journal
Blog reader Julie emailed me about her new journal for kids ages 6-12 called My Rainbow Journal. She creates guided journals that promote a happy, growth mindset while encouraging creativity and fun! I would have LOVED these as a girl!
If you have a child who loves to write and doodle, a positivity journal would make such a great gift. Julie also makes notebooks and stickers! Get 15% off with the code KATHEATS15. Check her out on Instagram too @my_rainbow_journal.
Cava Salad Dressing + Salmon Burgers
I love all the salad dressings at my favorite quick dining spots, Chopt, Mezeh, Roots, and Cava. I often ask for an extra so I can use it on my homemade salads for the rest of the week. I recently grabbed one of the Cava bottled dressings at Whole Foods – my favorite the lemon tahini – and it’s great!! Just like they make in the stores. It’s been awesome on massaged kale salads.
Also a new find at Whole Foods – these salmon cakes! They are kind of like a salmon patty meets crab cake and tasted great on my salad.
Monday Mezcal
I’ve had my eye on this nonalcoholic mezcal for months. My sister finally decided to play guinea pig and bought one for her family. She gave it a thumbs up so I finally bought it too! I love the smoked spice of mezcal, although I am by no means a connoisseur. I mostly have it in Old Fashioned-type cocktails and margaritas!
I bought the Paloma kit, which came with a grapefruit craft mixer. And I also bought this Pineapple Smoke mixer from Williams Sonoma. Our homemade drinks have been really good, and the NA mezcal adds just the right bite.
Mountain Culture Kombucha
My friend Donnie is part owner of Mountain Culture Kombucha, and it’s one of my favorites! Be on the lookout at Whole Foods, and locals to Cville – give it a try if you see it! They have some creative flavors.
The Book With No Pictures
We received this book as a gift recently! It’s by B.J. Novak of The Office fame, and it’s a very very clever book. I’d seen it before, but we hadn’t read it together. Birch LOVES it. He loves it most when his brother reads it to him. Be sure to watch the video of B.J. reading it himself – so silly!
Birch also loves all of his Disney princess books from Grammie!
Daily Harvest
Daily Harvest sent me a big box with all of their newest products for the new year. Their savory foods are so great to have in the freezer to heat up for a hot lunch on a cold day. I especially love the flatbread “pizzas” and savory oat bowls. Get $25 off your first order here.

You should try the Prvado Pineapple & Jalapeno margarita mix. It’s N/A and I drink it all the time mixed with sparkling water (I like it best with the lime flavor). It tastes like a spicy marg without the alcohol and the sugar isn’t horrible either! I had all my pregnant friends hooked on it when they couldn’t drink.

Hi! I’m a family nurse practitioner from Maine. Water beads are really dangerous and you might want to include a brief note to never use them in a house with kids 4/under or pets. If they are ingested they expand and can cause an intestinal obstruction and possibly perforation. Even a dried up one on the floor could be ingested by a pet or small child. I’d recommend against ever using them! If you Google dangers of water beads there will be articles about a baby that nearly died here in Maine recently from ingesting one.
Kath Younger says
We’re well aware of the dangers of ingesting them. Thanks for sharing with the community.

Do you mean ingesting?
Kath Younger says
Yes! Auto corrected me.
