I’ve always wanted to live in a neighborhood where neighbors come together to share good times. We had the honor of attending two neighborhood parties today! If you count our party on Saturday, that’s a lot of backyard fun on our street this week.
Early afternoon we headed over to enjoy company next door –
Peek-a-boo to our backyard! It’s so funny how we rarely see our yard from different angles.
We enjoyed watching games of corn hole and reminiscing about our days of slip and sliding. (I don’t think the baby would like it very much if I were to slide down this on my bump right now!)
Around dinnertime, we filled up on some snacks – chips, pasta salad, a chicken sandwich on GH Cheddar Garlic, some veg and cookie bites!
Later in the evening we went by another neighbors’ and were fed again – delicious flank steak and corn + bean salad, plus plenty of sparkling water.
The kiddos enjoyed the sparklers we brought over – they make awesome photos even before it’s dark!
Some of the group had the pleasure of drinking juicy red wines, including this special wine from their family vineyard: Casa Nuestra in Napa. Has anyone had it? Next time I’m in wine country, I must taste it myself (or be lucky enough to go back when another bottle is opened ; ) )! The group raved over it. It smelled heavenly!
We talked well into the evening and learned a great deal about parenting from our neighbors and friends!
And before the night ended, we watched the Cville fireworks from their porch – boom!

Yay operation eat more iron! (flank steak).
I guess I was an odd kiddo, because I was scared of slip-and-slides growing-up. Thought I would hurt myself, haha.

I actually had a stick go through my hand at the end of one and had a splinter in there for months that I didn’t know about until it surfaced! Your fear is logical 🙂

Kath – If you have the chance, look up the history of the winery. It’s quite interesting. Love the area – we used to visit many of the wineries each Fall when we lived in CA. Also look up John Thomas Blackburn in Wikipedia – a connection to the winery can be found there.

EE! that little baby bump is a bumping! I love that grey striped shirt!
I love those photos of the kids w/ the fireworks (like everyone else)…
What settings do you use on your camera for those and what lens? I’m in the ‘thick’ of learning how to use my camera but I’m having a hard time taking photos like those without the subjects being blurry.
BTW – Every time I’m at a camera store and they ask me what kind of camera I need/accessories/help I always pull up your blog and say ‘things to help me take pics like these!’

Matt actually shot those and had the camera on TV setting with 1″ shutterspeed – you want it slow so you get the whole shape!

The “Your Child’s Health” is the one book that I’ve turned to for years. My oldest is 13, and I still consult the copy I got before she was born. It was written by a doctor at the hospital where I used to work.

Casa Nuestra is our Napa favorite!! Their Chenin Blanc is to die for! And they love dogs (we had ours with us on that trip)… always a plus in our book 🙂

excellent light painting. 🙂 I’m jealous that you got to see fireworks!!! a lot of towns near us had to cancel because of budgets. I’ll have to take a trip to see them again next year.

“Corn hole”? I’m afraid to ask! Although from the picture it looks like a beanbag version of Washers.

Oy, Slip n Slide. I don’t think I EVER enjoyed that as a kid–it was so painful!! There were always rocks/sticks underneath the mat. Maybe if it had a bunch of yoga mats underneath as cushioning, I would have liked it more 😛

Sparklers are THE BEST! Total childhood memories right there.
