You can tell the mornings when I go running because my breakfast post is always quite late!!
I WENT RUNNING!!
I almost didn’t.
Woke up at 7 moderately hungry. Did not really feel like running. But the sun was out…
- Running attire donned.
- Teeth brushed. Thought of running more appealing…
- Glass of water. Hunger abated.
- Date in mouth – no longer hungry (it’s funny how FAST my “morning hunger” goes away after just eating ONE bite!)
- Garmin + iPod afixed to body.
Running now seems a little appealing.
Mile one: 8:49. Going ok.
Mile two: 8:29. RUNNING IS FUN!!!!!!!!!!!
Mile three: 8:19. Competitive self decides to try to pass another woman jogger. Success.
Mile four: 8:40. Damn Cville and its hills!!
Last half mile: Run it in and walk up final hill.
Felt great!!
Back at home for some berry picking and smoothie making.
Our poor strawbs are all water logged and rotty from all the rain :*( But I did find a couple of good ones in the patch.
Pick Yer Own Strawberry Smoothie
- 1 cup freshly picked strabs
- 1 extra ripe banana
- 2 tbsp Scottish oats
- 1 cup milk
- 1 tbsp chia seeds
- Ambrosial Granola + honey for toppings
- Non-edible flower décor on the side
One of those days I am I glad I am no longer addicted to coffee!! I just didn’t want anything in a mug on the side of this, and was happy not to have to make it.
No word yet how the baking is going, but I hope to taste some of Matt’s bread for lunch! Despite the fact that he can bake at any time of day, he seems to love the mornings, so he was up at 5:45 to go make a batch of scuffins! Honey Whole Wheat was project #2.
Flour Power!
Miranda @ Working Mom Works Out says
Haha. The competitive self comment is hilarious!
I’m an early riser, too. I think I would be there baking just like Matt. I can’t wait to hear how it goes!
Angela (Oh She Glows) says
I love the flower decor in your pic!
I go through the same motions/thoughts when I get up for a 6am class. Sometimes it takes me at least 30 minutes to get rid of the zombie feeling.
Sara @ lemony snippet says
I know that zombie feeling! When my alarm goes off that early I usually decide nothing in the entire world is worth waking up for, and if I do manage to get out of bed it’s at least 30 minutes before I stop feeling angry at being awake! 🙂
Laura @ Sprint 2 the Table says
Rockstar move on the mile 3 competitiveness. I do the same thing. Do you ever wonder if the other runner knows what you’re doing? I’m waiting for the day someone start racing me. 🙂
Grace @ Healthy Dreaming says
Great job on having a productive morning! I’m about to ease into some morning Yoga before lunch 🙂
Holly @ The Runny Egg says
You were speedy this morning! I do the same thing — try to pass others. But usually I speed up to pass them and then slow down because I’m tired and then they pass me 🙁
Ellie@fitforthesoul says
I love the name of the smoothie 😛 If only that were true in the OC! hehehe. great job, that’s a lot of mile in the morning
Krissy @ Shiawase Life says
yummmmmm bakery!!!
Nikki (BareFootPrint) says
I too have problems getting motivated in the morning… but I bet that breakfast tasted so much sweeter after that run!
Jenny @ Fitness Health and Food says
haha! I love that you shared your thoughts from your run! I think we can all relate to having a rollercoaster of loving and then hating running! 😛
Hope all goes well with the baking, its soo exciting! 🙂
Lauren at Keep It Sweet says
Let us know if you need some extra tasters:-)
Sarena (The Non-Dairy Queen) says
I’m with him, baking in the morning feels right! I hope you have a great day. Looks like you started it off on the right foot!
Kristi says
Honey whole wheat is currently my fav!!! It just happened to be the free slice last week when I was at GH and I instantly was hooked! Little butter, little honey…YUMO!!! I’ll be traveling again this weekend so I will get another GH fix!!! Can’t wait!
Whitney says
My dad and I are runners and he always says “The hardest step is the first one out the door” I find it VERY true! Once you are out there and running it’s pure bliss! 🙂
Katie @ Nourishing Flourishing says
The flowers certainly add something to that photo 🙂 Ah. Spring. Props for being able to drink a glass of water before anything! For some reason (is this only me?), if I drink a glass of water on an empty stomach, I feel so ill — nauseous, etc. Weird, right? But also congratulations on your run. Always a great way to start a day — that sense of accomplishment really gives you a lift!
Tina says
That happens to me, too! I usually need to have a bite of cereal or bread before I can drink a glass of water.
melissa says
I typically work out in the morning but since I live in Alaska the sun isn’t going down until 11:30p now. Definitely making my early morning wake up calls a bit more difficult. I normally go to sleep around 9-9:30p… but find myself watching reruns of Glee on hulu at 11pm because the sun is out!
Definitely need to get my act together! 🙂
Lea @ Healthy Coconut says
How exciting! First batch of baked goods from the bakery?
Amy says
Girl you are fast!! I feel like I’m flying when I do a 9:30 mile. Ha!
Paige(Running Around Normal) says
Isn’t it funny how a run can sound so not appealing until you’re actually running it? Then it’s awesome!! 🙂 haha
Cait's Plate says
Haha my morning “hunger” is the same way. I know they always say to front load your calories, but most days if I eat before exercising my appetite is just not there.
That strawberry smoothie looks delicious. Hope you have a scuffin in your future or at least some fresh baked bread 🙂
staceyhealthylife says
Mmmm, can’t wait to see what Matt makes.
Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat says
Ooooh I think someone is becoming a morning person!!! 🙂 I tend to always do my workouts in the morning (unless I’m teaching a spin class) and it helps to avoid that whole later-in-the-day shower problem you talked about yesterday. Nice job! Gorgeous looking brekkie too!
SquatLikeALady says
Gosh you are speedy! 🙂
I am the saaaame way in the morning. Til about 10am. Then I NEED a big breakfast!
Liz @ Tip Top Shape says
I swear morning hunger is usually what pushes back my working out. I wake up early to get it done but then breakfast sounds like such a great idea!
Tracy says
I’m the same way about morning hunger. If I can just have a small bite of something, anything, I’ll be fine putting off breakfast for a while.
I was up early baking today, too! I baked 3 dozen cookies (for school) by 7:30.
Cait @ Beyond Bananas says
I always get that competitive edge to want to keep getting negative splits! Props to ya on such a great run! 🙂
Cyndi says
I envy your divorce from coffee! I was about to make a new (small) pot to tackle a big project, but let’s see what happens if I don’t …
Hope says
Wow, that is a great run! Love that smoothie! I’m definitely on a strawberry kick! 🙂
Mary @ Bites and Bliss says
Good job powering through the run! I’m trying to psyche myself up for a run later..today is a “running day” but I’ve been away from the gym for so long all I want to so is spend time in there!
Averie (LoveVeggiesandYoga) says
Flour Power. Cute play on words 🙂
And I love the rustic, earthy-ness of your shots this morning. A great example of how the photography follows suit with the recipe, ie. pick yer own. Love it!
Glad to hear you got a good workout in, who cares about the “late” post 🙂 And you’re not addicted to coffee anymore? That makes one of us…haha!
Kristi @ KristiAteIt says
I had to laugh at your competitive comment! I think I’d be the same way
Chelsea says
Kath you are such a fast runner! I can’t wait to see what Matt as baked up today!!
Anastasia says
Nice run! I’m loving the smoothie with the flowers.. the colors go together so well :]
Marina says
You are really fast!
Isn’t it great to pick your own berries just a few moments before enjoying them?
I hope Matt’s baking goes well!
Khushboo says
My morning hunger is dependent on time! If I’m up before 8, it’s nonexistent…which works great as I try to get in the gym by 7 latest!
kate says
Wow that smoothie looks amazing I love fresh strawberries and am so excited for them to be in season. There is something about picking your own that just makes me so happy!

Felicia (Natural + Balanced) says

Alaina says
Looks like a fantastic run! I need to get more motivation to get out there and run. This rain is definitely not helping.
kaila @ healthy helper! says
YAY! Its so exciting that you are able to bake now!!! AWESOME!!!
Melissa says
Sheesh you’re speedy! Even with hills! 🙂
Andrea @ The Skinny Chronicles says
Most impressive, as always. It’s amazing how life-giving brushing your teeth can be!
Katherine says
That. Looks. Amazing.
How did you get into running? I have always wanted to pick it up, but it always seems like such a chore…
KathEats says
I’ve always kind of liked it. And it does get easier!
Katherine says
Lucky! I am going to try and get into it….or yoga. Hmmm
Emily @ Savory and Savage says
Grats on your speedy run!
That bowl was almost too pretty to eat:-)
Tori (Fresh Fruition) says
Yum! Fresh-picked strawberries! We have some wild ones popping up in our yard, too bad they’re not suited for munching on 🙁
Greta @ California Girl says
I swear, getting into my running clothes is the hardest part of running for me! Especially if it’s in the AM and all you want to do is crawl back into your warm bed.
Justeen @ Blissful Baking says
Love the pretty little flower you used for decoration!
whatkateiscooking says
I can’t remember the last time I thought “I should go running” first thing in the morning and actually did it! Good for you 🙂
Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife says
mmm your b-fast looks so good.
Nice run!
Haleigh says
I’m also really competitive! I always run faster when I run with some one who is slightly faster than me. So jealous that you have wild strawberries to pick. Hope you have a good day!
Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin says
Haha I always try to pass other runners too!
Emma (Namaste Everyday) says
you are inspiring me to get on my feet! run run run!
Lauren says
that smoothie looks amazing! I bought some farmers market strawberries on Saturday, they were gone Monday morning. 🙂 so delicious!!
Angel7 says
I love lilac-colored flowers! They are so pretty!

Kristen @ Change of Pace says
I don’t know how you run without eating first. I always feel sick if I don’t eat something small. We only bought 2 strawberry plants this year for my daughter to pick some. Next year we’ll be buying a ton. I’d love to be able to pick my breakfast!
Jessica @ The Process of Healing says
That smoothie sounds AMAZING! I can’t seem to get ENOUGH strawberries lately!
Beth (Well I'll Be) says
Isn’t it funny how easy it is to talk yourself out of exercise. Way to power through and just get out there and do it! And now your done and I’m sure glad you did it!
JenATX says
haha this is a funny post.. love the play by play of your thought process
dawnalee says
I love the smoothie as soup concept. Soupy cereal? Yum! whatever tis called. 🙂
Jil @ Big City, Lil Kitchen says
Love the note of the non-edible garnish. Can’t be too careful! 🙂
Hannah says
Such a pretty pale pink! Lovely breakfast.
Jessa @ Under the Apple Tree says
I tried to check out the link for Ambrosial Granola, but it came up as a broken link.
Jessa @ Under the Apple Tree says
The smoothie bowl looks super good and I definitely going to have some this weekend.
Also, I tried to check out the link for Ambrosial Granola, but it came up as a broken link.
Great photos and the flower takes the cake!
KathEats says
Oh bummer, sorry! It was an old OpenSky link
