A little urban yoga for you
Best friends are formed in down dog:
And lives are changed upsidedown
Core Power Yoga was awesome. The studio was on a rooftop with incredible views!!! So much light. The class was HOT (which means I was very happy) and my quads are tired (which means I got a good workout 🙂 ) I did shed a few tears for Tanner but Liza did a great job. I wish this studio would come to Charlottesville!!
After the class we stopped into the Whole Foods across the street for a bit of coconut derived electrolytes. I got this fruity flavor by O.N.E. and was not happy. It tasted like muscadine grapes (ew.) and I realized it wasn’t even coconut based – it was from a cashew fruit. I drank half and sadly tossed rest. I got a VitaCoco (my fav brand) for my Sunday AM run 🙂
After showers, we set out on foot searching for local food. We found 1,000 chains but nothing local in the neighborhood of the hotel. After an hour of walking in the hot sun looking for some cute cafe (lack of planning was to blame here!!) we finally got a recommendation for Berghoff’s and sat down to eat.
Beers were required. In Matt’s honor.
I shared my beer with Hillary and Courtney 🙂
Breads were fun! Rye and flatbread crisps
Carbs are necessary for energy.
"One of these things is not like the other!"
I think there were 6 sweet potato paninis on the table and my salad!
This was the Artic Char salad with Peaches, Peppers and Berries (and crispy onions that were promptly removed!)
The fish was awesome, and I loved the berry combo! I shared my fish, but ate most of the salad.
I also stole a few bites of Emily‘s panini and chips and Hillary’s pickle!
Everyone seemed to have yogurt on the brain – so we found a place!
The menu was VERY confusing, but I ended up getting one of their recommended mixes – a Chia Latte yogurt with coconut on top (!!) and split it with Tina
It was INcredible!!!! Also took tastes of green tea, chocolate graham, key lime and coffee flavors!
The afternoon was spent in a hectic madness. Event planning is NOT my thing! I don’t handle stress well and we had a number of things come up that were not cool. I barely had time to get ready for the cocktail party, but thankfully was able to have a blast once we were there.
Thanks to the cocktail party sponsor OpenSky for the rockin’ event at Lasalle Power Co!!
SO FUN to meet all these awesome people!! This community is the best. And I’m sorry there are so many of you out there I have yet to meet in person! Someday
I helped Tina with her cocktail while I manned the welcome booth
And ordered a glass of wine once I went inside. It was a good one!
OpenSky did a great job on the food – lots of healthy stuff with a few yum bombs in the middle! We had salad, hummus and pita, spinach-artichoke dip, caprese skewers, turkey burger minis, and shrimp skewers.
I had a fabulous time chatting it up all night – my voice hurts (and for once, my feet do NOT hurt thanks to my new favorite sandals)
Sabrina made the playlist and I totally want it to be my new life soundtrack. All the best songs with even a little Glee mixed in!
The evening brought on thirst and a couple of seltzer waters (I’m sure the bartenders thought we were a crazy "healthy" group ordering as many club sodas as cocktails!)
But then I had a craving for a Manhattan (my favorite drink!) and sipped on that for a while, sharing it with some Manhattan virgins!
Like Hillary 🙂
The most fun part of the evening was the photobooth – Tina and I shared a few moments
Can’t believe I have ZERO photos of my dress or new friends – I think I just needed a night off of "pass the camera." There were so many cameras flying around already! I’ll have to play Where’s Waldo with myself and see if I end up on other blogs since I was in a handful of photos.
Highlight of night:
This was my nametag
Bartender asks: "Is your last name KERF?"
LOL.
Big day tomorrow. Nite!
Deva (Voracious Vorilee) says
Love the photos – I think they highlight your weekend perfectly so far – hectic, fun, busy, awesome!
janna @ janna's keeping it real says
love this post! it looks like you are all having such a nice time together! hope tomorrow is just as jam packed! have fun!
Ashley says
awesome.awesome.awesome. 🙂 <3 you lady!
Mary @ Bites and Bliss says
Incredible time! and photo booths are the absolute best 🙂
If I was asked that by the bartnder, I would have answered “yes..is that weird?” with a completely serious poker face on. Until I’d crack and laugh. 😛
Kim says
I almost choked on my drink reading your post! to funny.
lauri Watson says
LOVE YogenFruz–> The plain yogurt with all kinds of fun toppings is my favorite!! Ben likes the Key Lime Pie- says its better than the ‘real’ stuff! I SO miss the one on Cola now that we have moved! Looks like you are having a BLAST! Hopefully I can make it next year 🙂
Chelsey says
Hahaha I love it! KERF should be your last name. It would be pretty fun!
Kim says
There is a Core Power down the street from Me, but I’m not at that level yet. I wonder if they have beginners type classes? I’ll have to check that out.
Sorry you had some issues arise to day. Take some deep breaths, everything will work out!
Ann says
They do! They offer a free week of yoga classes. Just check the website. I’m not very advanced and the beginner classes were great!
Jil @ Peace, Love & Munchies says
hahaha too funny that he thought that was your last name!! glad the event went well – yayyy!
caronae says
Such great fun! So sad I’m not there. And a sweet potato panini=heavenly.
We will have to do yoga together next time you’re here. With a run too, of course. 🙂
Nicole - yuppie yogini says
That studio is awesome….the only thing that can make it better is Tanner 😉 Went to his early class today..fabulous as always!
Kristy @ KristyRuns.com says
WOW! What an incredible view from the yoga studio! Glad you’re having a BLAST in Chicago! 🙂
Ashley @ Nourishing the Soul says
Looks like fun times were had! Love the yoga photos. =)
Michelle @ Give Me the Almond Butter says
I haven’t found a flavored coconut water that I have liked! I tried a lime one and I thought I was chilling in Mexico not refueling after a sweaty run.
Hillary [Nutrition Nut on the Run] says
Thanks for sharing your Manhattan : ) Too funny about the bartender. Definitely lots of giggling tonight.
Nicole says
Hey Kath,
I shot you an e-mail to a gmail address I found somewhere on the blog to see if you had time to connect Sunday and meet one of your blogfans (and aspiring RD!) Not sure if it made it to you or not and it seems like you’re pretty busy! Looks like you are enjoying our fine city! You are not far from Greektown on Halsted if you all need dinner inspiration again for “non-chain” restaurants. There is a great European style cafe there called Artopolis as well as some more formal Greek restaurants, my favorite of which is called Santorini. There are lots of interesting/swanky places further West on Randolph Street also(probably a taxi ride away.) Have fun!
Kath says
Hey Nicole,
I got your email! No idea why it’s not in my inbox anymore. I’m sorry I didn’t respond – it’s been busy! I don’t think I’ll have time to meet for a private meal, as i”m leaving on Sunday noon 🙁
Hannah says
I’d give anything for *normal* frozen yogurt in Australia, not to mention chai latte or chocolate graham flavours! OMG!
It’s so lovely to see you all having so much fun… can’t wait to see what happens when the summit gets going for real!
Courtney says
Glad you liked Yogen Fruz!! And yes, the menu is really confusing, not to mention expensive! A large yogurt with toppings is nearly $10!! It is delish though. The cocktail party looked fun!! 😀
Annie (Delicious Wellness) says
I LOVE Core Power Yoga! Went to it a ton during college in Colorado. If you get a chance to go back, I highly recommend the Core Power Class (rather than Hot Power, which I actually never took). CP is still really hot, just more of a flow. I loved it and went almost every single day! Happy HLS!
Maria @ Oh Healthy Day says
Kath Kerf – it does have a cute ring to it. Hilarious 🙂
Camille says
Haha, that would be quite a name!
Looks like you are having fun!
Sarah (OC2Seattle) says
Nice handstand! LOL re the bartender – apparently your parents were really into alliteration 😉
Wei-Wei says
Hahaa I love how you have a little “RD” tagged on to your nametag! You certainly deserve it now! I love the photobooth. Looks like so much fun you guys are having!
Wei-Wei
Simply Life says
what a fun frozen yogurt flavor!
Caitlyn @ A Spoonful of Life says
Yoga on a rooftop! How perfect! I would have felt like I was floating when I was done with class.
coco says
the last part is really fun! I can imagine the confusing face of the bartender 😉
JL Goes Vegan says
Love the view from the yoga studio! Looks like a great time was had by all last night. Hope today is stress-free and enjoyable for you.
Kori says
Man, it looks like you’re having a blast while in Chicago! I never knew how alive and interesting the city is, but now that you’ve opened my eyes to it, I am going to have to visit it one day. 🙂 Have a great weekend, Kath!
Grace says
Kath, please tell me what your new favorite sandals are! I’ve been looking for a pair of sandals that won’t murder my feet. Thanks! Glad things are (seemingly) going well in Chicago right now. Looks like fun!
Kath says
They are several years old – Nine West “Juwanr”
RhodeyGirl Tests says
I can give you a copy of the playlist if you have an iPod or mp3 player with you!
Sarah (Running to Slow Things Down) says
Girl, you are intense in that yoga shot!! Such an inspiration. 😀
Glad you all had fun! The place looks absolutely jam packed with fun food bloggers. Too fun! 😀
Tina says
It’s so funny to me how well you are known to bloggers, but some people have no clue. Then other times you get recognized and probably treated like a mini-celebrity. Must be weird. 😀
jassy says
kerf will be a pretty good last name 🙂
Lauren @ 40Apples says
What an awesome yoga studio. And it looks like you’re having a lot of fun! Enjoy today!!
Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin says
Nice handstand! Every time I attempt one, I end up flipping over! 😛
Looks like you’re having a blast!
chrissy says
kath, next time you’re in NYC, you must try the Manhattan at the 21 club. it’s amazing, and one of the few places that i’ll order one!
Heather says
hilarious about the name tag! photo booth looks so fun!
Lee says
I made that same mistake with the coconut water. Except mine was some sort of Acai berry juice instead. I was like, “Where is the coconut?”
Have fun, Kath Kerf.
Sarena (The Non-Dairy Queen) says
Looks like a fun time! I am sure today will be just as good! Have fun!
Stacey@http://stacey-healthylife.blogspot.com/ says
What a fun time. It’s fun seeing so many people that I recognize.
holly @ couchpotatoathlete says
I wish your name was Kath Kerf. What a riot.
It looks like the party was a complete success. So much fun! Have a great weekend!

Marina says
That yoga studio really looks like a great place for yoga practice!
Mhm…sweet potato paninis sound awesome >(
Laughter-Loving Stacy says
lol, damn this conference sounds awesome.
Liz @ Tip Top Shape says
That is amazing that you went to Berghoff’s!! I am from Chicago and went there all the time when I was a kid. It was our Christmas tradition to go eat there, actually, and there would be a line out the door. I think that was a holiday season thing, though, so hopefully you did not have to wait long 😀
Lauren at KeepItSweet says
Looks like SO much fun! I hope I can make it for the next one!!
Jenn (Jenn's Menu and Lifestyle Blog) says
So frustrating when chains outnumber mom and pop places. 🙁 That froyo looks awesome. Want! 😀
Jenn
Jasmine @ Eat Move Write says
lol. KERF. too funny. It would make a funny last name, actually. The photo booth idea was awesome.
Melissa @ HerGreenLife says
Hmm, I think one of my husband’s UChicago alumni reunion events last summer was at LaSalle Power Co. Funny you ended up at the same place, out of all the possibilities in Chicago. We’ve also had trouble finding fun, non-chain restaurants when walking around downtown Chicago (last time we ended up at Flat Top Grill). It seems like you have to get out of the central downtown area and into some of the surrounding neighborhoods to find the good stuff!
lynn (The Actors Diet) says
KERF would be a great name! i’m always thinking about good last names for me and my husband when we have kids, since he has both his parents and i have mine professionally. i don’t want to have a kid with THREE last names so i’m thinking about making one up.
Annie@stronghealthyfit says
Thats’ hilarious about your nametag. The Summit looks like so much fun!
Gree says
This looks like such a fun weekend, we have a new hot yoga studio that just opened up near me and I can’t wait to try it. We don’t have a great frozen yogurt place though, so I am jealous of all the yummy yogurt. We do have great local ice cream though!
kayla.eats.healthy says
I’ve been reading your blog for the LONGEST time now and I JUST now got what KERF stands for!! HAHAHA, wow. I feel so dumb. How did I just NOW figure out that KERF stands for Kath Eats Real Food. Haha…
