My amazingly talented cousin Chris has been writing music and recording albums for years. His latest is available for download for FREE at Mediafire. It’s called The Pray For Daylight. It’s a musical recipe of folk, soul, guitar, piano and heart. I love his voice! Chris also sings vocals for a piano piece called The Perpetual Calendar by his pianist available for free here <3

Cute spoon!
Question for you – do you ever make the chia “gel” (add water)? Do you think chia is just a effective just as the seed? I sprinkle it on everything too but rarely make the gel. Just curious as to your thoughts…
Ashley J says

Jen says
i hope a million people haven’t asked you this already kath! do you stir your oats and mix everything together and then eat it? or nibble around your bowl the way you photograph it?

Terrible news in Japan. I’m crossing my fingers for Hawaii. 🙁
Liz says
Please tell Matt the low carb movement hasn’t died. It’s still running strong!
CJ says
Agreed. I’m sorry but grains are not REQUIRED for a healthy body (neither are carbohydrates for that matter) and are not a good fit for everyone.
KathEats says
You’d have a hard time getting the energy to do anything without carbohydrates.
Liz says
Amazingly enough, the carbs in vegetables are enough to keep you going! 🙂
KathEats says
Right – carbs!! I never said you need bread, I said you need carbs!
Baking 'n' Books says
I hate how people say carbs and only think it means “bread”.
Vegetables, fruits, even nuts and seeds have carbs!
But I still eat bread – sorry 🙂
(and it’s not just the physical body that needs energy – the BRAIN needs glucose for fuel).
CJ says
No, that is not correct. The body does NOT NEED dietary carbohydrates. That is a myth and a misconception. The only nutrients NEEDED from the diet are essential amino acids and essential fatty acids. That is why they are called ESSENTIAL – the body cannot manufacture them. There are NO essential dietary carbohydrates. It is correct that GLUCOSE is needed by the body, but glucose does not have to come from dietary carbohydrate, it can be created from amino acids and glycerol through a process called gluconeogensis. I am not saying that one should not eat carbohydrates (although there are definitely people that are healthier without them). I am simply correcting a common myth that carbs are NEEDED in the diet. They aren’t. The body could not live without essential amino acids or EFAs, but a diet completely without carbohydrate can be maintained indefinitely without health detriment. There are plenty of examples throughout history where societies have lived exclusively on fish and animal meat (protein and fat). Please stop spreading junk science like every other RD out there who says “carbs are NEEDED”…they aren’t.
KathEats says
I’d like to see you live off carbohydrates alone and see how well you function. Ketones??!? I’ve never heard of any human that has lived exclusively on fat and protein for more than a short period of time, if at all.
You can argue if you want, but that doesn’t mean that the majority of us don’t need glucose for our brains by means other than gluconeogensis. Maybe technically it’s possible, but that doesn’t mean it’s a good way to live.
Heather @ Get Healthy With Heather says
That is the coolest spoon! It totally calls your name Kath 🙂
Emily says

Krissy - Shiawase Life says
Thanks for the well wishes concerning Japan; I talked to my parents on the phone and they are doing okay – of course, shaken up (literally and figurartively) – it’s hard to be away from family when things like this happen, but ironically, the first thing my mom said about it all was that she was glad that me and my sister live far away so she didn’t have to worry about our safety during the earthquake!
Mom says
Thinking of your parents and everyone.
Barbara
Johanna B says
When I light my candle tonight I’ll include prayers for your family and all the people of Japan and other areas which were hit.

Praying for everyone in Japan.
I learned a lot about Great Harvest in this podcast! No wonder it tastes so good …
I have a really good feeling about your bakery. I feel like as soon as the doors open it’s going to be off and running. Wish I was closer to C-Ville to visit!
Sarah @ The Strength of Faith says
Do GH’s usually have a little card with information about the freshness of the bread? Or maybe a portion of the wall with that info painted on? I think people would really get a kick out of that coming into the bakery …
KathEats says
We try to get the message across in a lot of ways – mainly by telling people. But visuals would be good!
Andrea says

Katelyn @ Chef Katelyn says
I am jellin like a vellin over those spoons!!
I’ve always wondered about the taste of sunflower seed butter. I love the seeds, but is the butter sweet or bitter?
KathEats says
Definitely not bitter!!! I’d say sweet – but not like sugar sweet – more like honey/PB sweet

If you love the seeds you will love the butter. It is life altering goodness. TJ’s is so good. We love it with our apples and some cinnamon.

Hey Kath I have a quick question for you or matt about honey since you always say you use it as your salad dressing!
There are so many different types of honey at the store. What is the healthiest?
Thanks so much!
KathEats says
I’d go for something local Jen. Anything local will be good. I think there is more warning about Chinese honey? But I don’t know the details

LOVE those spoons!! And I love sunflower butter! Yum! I’m disappointed to miss the opening of your GH…I’ll be in C-Ville in April!
Charlottesville Sybarite says
Yay, looking forward to the store opening! I’m very excited that it’s going to be a wide selection of whole grains as most of the local Charlottesville bakeries still concentrate on the white breads, argh. I came across a fantastic whole wheat pizza dough with flaxseeds that I can’t wait to try. I’m hoping you’re going to be offering some ready-made pizza breads at the store, hoping…
