^^ Muscle replenishment! Body Pump, per usual, was super hard with rockstar Chris today. He sure loves those long holds!! I love that class so much that I am never tempted to skip it. I feel like it really is my one KILLER muscle workout for the week. But in the middle of it….oh I hate it so much!!
After a shower and a ride down the hill, I had a Monticello Garden sandwich (hummus +veg)
On the side – an apple with Chocolate Sunflower Butter. Man it’s been a while since I’ve had a crunch apple! These go into our Apple Crunch bread and while I don’t love green apples, crunch is better than mealy red.
Naturally Nutty Chocolate Sunflower – as good as it sounds!
I have back-to-back meetings and more things to do stat! See y’all!
Carrie (Moves 'N Munchies) says
that is such a delicious meal!
Allie@LiveLaughEat says
Thank goodness I got a jar of that choco sunflower butter before leaving!
Estela @ Weekly Bite says
Body pump is such a great workout!
I need some some of that choco sunflower butter! Looks & sounds delish 🙂
Claire @ Live and Love to Eat says
What a nice, light combo! Wishing I had some hummus at work to snack on!
Kathryn @ Flopoodle says
Mmm I’ve never had chocolate sunflower butter before but now it’s on my list of things to try/make. That bread looks amazing, by the way!
Johanna B says
Your choc sunflower butter looks like fudge in a spoon. Must be soooo yummm.
Lynda @ healthy hoboken girl says
That apple and chocolatey nut butter looks delicious…might be my afternoon snack!! THanks!
Allison says
Hi Kath,
I have a question. I’m not an active person other than the walking I enjoy for relaxation purposes. I do eat bread and grains with most meals. Is this fine? I live with a trio of roommates who are disordered and its impacting me negatively. I don’t crave breads, but I just eat them because their food and I don’t want to deprive myself.
KathEats says
I absolutely think it’s totally fine for you to eat bread with meals!! Bread = fuel to live.
mel says
I would suggest finding new roommates!! I’ve been there and you DON’T want to start the vicious cycle of disordered eating. Whole wheat bread and grains are delicious and I too eat them with every meal and some snacks too! Good luck and walking is great exercise too!
Jillian says
Just wanted to say that not eating bread or grains that frequently does not = disordered eating in and of itself, although I’m assuming everyone knows that. I eat bread sometimes for fun (with butter, ahem), but I don’t love it in general, nor does it make me feel really great if I eat it frequently. I also don’t eat very much in the way of grains- pretty much only brown rice and occasionally quinoa or oats- because most of them don’t make me feel really great, either (to me, millet = bird seed, not something I need to eat! 😉 I just know that grains are not supposed to be that prevalent in my diet based on how I feel when I eat them as frequently as most people do, even if they aren’t refined. I ate whole grain bread and a grains several times daily for most of my 35 years, and I did not feel well when I did. I’m not celiac, either- it’s nothing that extreme.
Wendy says
Hi Jillian, This intrigues me. If you would like to share more , please email me at [email protected]
Thank you.
Allison says
Hi, thanks. If you can share more about your experiences, maybe we can email chat?
Aine @ Something to Chew Over says
I have got to get that chocolate sunflower butter! I bet it goes really well with apples.
Have a great day! 🙂
Kate (What Kate is Cooking) says
I can’t stand mealy red apples! They’re so pretty but they taste awful. Pink Lady all the way!
Suzanne @ continuing my education says
My family and I are planning on coming on Saturday to get sandwiches! Can’t wait to try their deliciousness and see the finished store (first time back since you opened). Will you be in?
Cat @Breakfast to Bed says
Have you had a jazz apple? sooo good right now.
Angie @ Musings of a Violet Monkey says
I can’t wait for local apple season to start. I can’t stand eating the mealy ones… I just go without. However, I recently bought some HoneyCrisp apples at Costco… not local, and not organic – but crispy, finally! The time is near! 🙂
~
mel says
why aren’t organic apples crispy?? I know they are better for you but reg. apples are so crunchy!!
Jillian says
Is that really true? I admit I’ve only ever bought organic granny smiths, but I’ve rarely gotten any that aren’t crispy!
mel says
I don’t like green so I only buy red but most organic bagged apples that I have bought have been kind of mealy. Who knows why?
Lara @ TresLaLa says
I find that pre-bagged apples are usually less expensive (and mealy) because they’re not the ones that I’d pick out if I had my druthers. They’re usually a bit more holey, dimpled, etc. (They were well loved!) I buy these to make recipes (love me some apple pie), but for a good eatin’ apple, I’ll pick my own from the bins. When I do this, I can ensure that they’re hard, and almost always crispy!
Amy @ The Whole Sweet Scoop says
I cannot wait for apple season too! My sister just moved to farm country so I can’t wait to take full advantage! I’ve heard of sunflower butter, but never chocolate sunflower butter! Genius!
Ashley @ Coffee Cake and Cardio says
Yay! Apple season. I can’t wait to go apple pickin’
Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga says
I have the NN Chocolate Sunflower Butter and yes, it’s pretty amazing!
Crunch ALWAYS trumps mush. Ick! Who likes mushy, mealy apples?!…they are just…ugh!
Angel7 says
I am not a big fan of green apples either. I usually get the Fuji apples. But when you are looking for crunch and want an apple, any kind will do 🙂
http://faithfulsolutions.blogspot.com/
Holly @ The Runny Egg says
I am with you on loving crisp apples!
Patty @ Foodie and the Beats says
Chocolate sunflower butter?! This is changing my world right now. I need to find this immediately.
Katie @ Peace Love and Oats says
apples are my absolute favorite fruit! I literally have one every day! Pink Lady Apple in my backpack for an afternoon snack!
Lindsay @ Lindsay's List says
I’ve never tried a Body Pump. I’m guessing it’s full body, high rep, low weight?
KathEats says
It’s full body and high rep – but I wouldn’t say the weights are light. I use a pretty heavy set and am worn out at the end.
Baking N Books says
I just noticed – do you only sell vegetarian sandwiches at the bakery? I usually see veggie or tofu featured. Not that they’re not good of course!!
KathEats says
I choose not to eat our turkey or ham…it’s not local or organic
Jennifer says
Will GH not let you guys get meat from a loganic butcher you feel comfortable with?
KathEats says
No, they don’t have any part in our decision making, we just can’t find a good distributor. We can get raw whole chickens but we can’t find deli meat.
Jennifer says
ooo gotcha. I hope you are able to find one! 🙂
Shaya (Eye Girl Eats) says
chocolate sunflower butter— umm get in my belly now!!
You’re making me want to search out a Body Pump class for myself– does the instructor make a big difference for your enjoyment of the class?
KathEats says
Not as much as other classes because BP is very similar from instructor to instructor but do try a few before you make a full decision
Cait's Plate says
I desperately need to get that naturally nutty chocolate sunflower butter! I suggest Braeburn and Jazz apples for a crunchy red!
laurie says
I second that!! Jazz apples are amazing!!
Laura says
If you ever come accross a Song of September apple — best crunchy eating apple ever!

Marie@feedingfive says
You’re motivating me to lift some weights. I am good with cardio but have such a hard time knowing what to do when it comes to lifting. My husband said to check out youtube for instruction. Hopefully I’ll have good luck.
Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife says
chocolate sunflower?!! YUMM.
I love teaching BodyPUMP for that exact reason : hard HARD muscle work 🙂
Gina @ Running to the Kitchen says
A sad, sad thing just happened. I waslked to the fridge to grab an apple with pb (yours inspired me) and there were none left 🙁
Hillary says
Chocolate + nut butter = my best thing.
Laura says
I’m a fairly new reader, so may have missed this: where do you get the chocolate sunflower butter? Is it a specific brand?
KathEats says
It’s by Naturally Nutty. Most Great Harvests have it and some other specialty stores
Laura says
We don’t have Great Harvest in NYC, but I’m dying to check out your store in Charlottesville at some point! I’m there every week for work but so far I haven’t had a rental car, so I’m limited to what’s walkable from the downtown mall.
KathEats says
We’re an easy walk from the mall – about 0.8 mile!
Jeni @ hippiewildmama says
You’ve inspired me to try BodyPump! I’m going on Wednesday morning at 9:30, scurred sh#tless, but I’m going to give it a whirl.
Sarah @ Sarah's Modern Bites says
Chocolate sunflower seed butter = spoonful of HEAVEN! I bet that would be amazing mixed in with some vanilla ice cream….
Mealy apples = my hell. Seriously, it is such a huge bummer to bite into a mealy apple!! I am psyched for apple season… if you love crunchy, crisp apples you would LOVE honey crisps! Have you ever had one?
I love that feeling AFTER a super hard work-out… it’s so addicting!
Trainer Kjirsten @ Balanced Healthy Life says
I love great workout classes! Nothing better than screaming muscles!
Kara says
I am having the same problem with apples! I’m not a fan at all of green apples, but I haven’t been able to find a crunchy red apple for months. I want honeycrisps to be back in season!
Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat says
Wow, never seen chocolate sunflower butter before but it looks delish!!

KathEats says
It’s not aerobic – just weights

lynn @ the actor's diet says
perfect lunch! apples n fancy spread are the best
Hilary says
Apples + nut butter = always good. I don’t eat apples until fall rolls around…too much other good stuff all summer long and they’re not at their prime!
Sarah@The Flying ONION says
I would love to take a bodypump class someday! Actually. I’d like to take ANY kind of a class. I had a gym membership last year and got so bored because I was never inventive enough to come up with new ideas. I think a class would be right up my alley. 😀
Natalie @ Nitty Grits says
I’m living vicariously through you and your Body Pump posts. I used to be a BP instructor but, since then I’ve moved to London, Chicago and NYC and have had a hard time keeping my certification active with all the different studios.
Starting to feel inspired to seek it out again….
can you feel the burn!?!?
Allison says
Great looking lunch! I planned to do a bodypump class last week but ended up postponing it [had surgery] to this week… I’m nervous- my friend said it was a brutal workout!
Khushboo says
Mealy apples are gaaaaa-rosssss! I rather not eat apples! Braeburn, Galas, Granny Smiths & Pink Lady’s tend to be nice & crispy…Red Delicious, however, is another story (haha yes I like my apples)!
Elisabeth says
Green apples are my favorite – I love a good Granny Smith with Smucker’s Natural PB 🙂
Lenna says
That sunflower butter sounds delicious!! I am also not much a fan of green apples, I usually eat only the red ones. But I love apple so much that I would probably eat even those green ones 🙂
Katie @ Plates and Paste says
Yum! I really need to get my hands on some sunflower butter. I’ve never tried it!
Emily says
Do you think Bodypump would be too difficult for someone who doesn’t regularly lift weights? I’ve been wanting to try it at my gym, but I don’t want it to be too advanced for me.
KathEats says
Nope!! Just use light weights 🙂
Tanya @ Vegan Faith says
Will you please send me a jar of the chocolate sunflower butter…seriously will pay you in gold, it sounds so superb!
