Marnin’
I didn’t sleep all that well 🙁 Of course the day I want to get 9 solid hours I wake up at 6:26 (seriously!) and couldn’t go back to sleep for an hour and a half. I finally got up and read some emails + blog comments. I’m having trouble relaxing! My mind was racing with all the things coming up. [Speaking of busy things, we just got a house showing!]
Matt brought me a mug of coffee while I got ready. I sipped it with a nice Zebra
After a halfway shower, we moseyed out to the porch for a lovely breakfast.
It’s GORGEOUS outside today and definitely brightened my mood 🙂
We’re staying at the Hill House B&B.
We sat down and chatted with 2 other couples at our table. I love meeting new people.
Appetizers were little fruit plates –
Matt and I shared a scone –
The main course was Creme Brulee French Toast!
Oven-baked in a mixture of egg, butter and sugar on the bottom. It was delicious, but I only ate half my portion. It was a bit rich for breakfast!
I also requested a vegetarian breakfast since I don’t really care for breakfast meats and got fruit on the side. Almost ate my lettuce too! Ha!
Going to go read on the porch for a bit. Might go running in an hour. Then headed into town!
Freya @ Brit Chick Runs says
What a lovely B+B – it’s gorgeous! And french toast creme brulee..impressive!
I hope you have a good run 🙂
Joanne says
We usually try to stay at B&B’s. I find they all enjoy making french toast, pancakes, or other rice breakfast options. Even though the breakfasts aren’t my idea of “perfect”, I just love the uniqueness of each B&B. They all have their own personalities and meeting new people is always a plus.
Have a wonderful time.
Food Makes Fun Fuel says
That zebra is adorable. I’ve never stayed at a B&B before! but now I want to

I love Bed and Breakfasts! When we got to Maine in the summer, we tend to stay at one as well.
That bed and breakfast looks beautiful – and that french toast heavenly. Enjoy your weekend!

It’s a shame you couldn’t sleep, but hopefully tonight your body will be more in ‘relax’ mode! And hey, creme brulee french toast isn’t the worst thing to start a day with 🙂
Jil @ Peace, Love & Munchies says
That mug is too cute – and their breakfast looks great.

Mary @ Bites and Bliss says
That looks like a perfect summer morning. I love when it’s still cool out and the sun has just risen. If you were having a hard time relaxing last night, you’re definitely in the right place to help that out. Just let loose and enjoy a weekend away with your husband! 🙂
Katie@peacebeme says
Looks beautiful there! Makes me miss my guy who is on deployment :(. But I hope you are having fun and scones are my favorite food!

I didn’t sleep well either 🙁 I blame the full moon the other night!
Your pics look gorgeous!
Sarena (The Non-Dairy Queen) says
I know what you mean about waking up…it seems like when we want to sleep in…we wake up earlier! The place looks beautiful. I hope you enjoy some relaxation. I am glad it is pretty there. That definitely brings up your spirits. It is very gloomy and overcast here. I am hoping for a little sun this afternoon…I would like to get my husband out from behind his drawing board for a walk in some sunshine. I think he is lacking in the vitamin D department! Enjoy your day. Oh, and I would have totally eaten the lettuce!
Heather says
how fun and quaint! love it!

I’m sorry you didn’t sleep well! I’m sure all your thoughts came crashing down on you last night because its the first time in weeks that you’ve just sat still (or so it seems). That happens to me on vacation at first…I think about all the things I hadn’t been able to in the weeks leading up to it. It’ll go away 🙂 Enjoy the B&B (it looks amazing!), Matt’s company and just relax!
Cynthia (It All Changes) says
I have a hard time sleeping in beds that aren’t mine. But your B&B looks great!

I love B+B’s and especially the breakfast. I like the ones that give you lots of choices, not just a single very rich breakfast.
Anne says
Ha! I just finished up a big week/ project and am having trouble relaxing too. I am thinking laundry and chores might help me ease into the long weekend.
Kittie says
Oh my gosh you are in Asheville??? I LOVE that city. If you have time you should check out the Laughing Seed. They literally have the most perfect tasting food that I have ever had.
Tish says
I love this post. Your breakfast looks scrumptious and you’re so smart just to eat what you need. I noted the name of the B&B for future reference, it looks very nice. Have fun this weekend!
Rachelle says
I swear, I can NEVER sleep in when I want to (hubby and I have a 20 month old, so we switch off mornings to sleep in, and I never can — so I secretly dig out my computer for some quiet “alone” time– I will take what I can get!). Murphy’s law.
That house is simply gorgeous.
I want to tell you, you’ve inspired my husband, omg! He is NOT at all remotely a healthy eater no matter how much I’ve tried. Since he does most of the cooking…. well, you see where that leads us. :-p He won’t eat most of the stuff I make.
However, we’ve had a breakthrough! My husband, the one who teases me with “Well, ketchup is my vegetable tonight” actually went and steamed and pureed carrots and broccoli and put it in the sauce for our lasagna. Who would have KNOWN? He sees me scanning your blog all the time (and hears me rattle on about all the cool new products I’ve found on your blog).
I just want to say thank you. You’ve inspired both of us to eat much better (I even tried the evoo & honey yesterday on my salad, but I threw in some balsamic b/c well, I think balasamic makes everything awesome). It was quite tasty (my ratios were a bit off, so I will try again).
Thank you for all the time you put in your blog, I love it (not to mention your great photos too!)
~Rachelle

What a beautiful B&B. It’s funny– I love staying at B&B’s, but I HATE having to chat with strangers at the breakfast table! I’m kind of anti-social like that. 🙂
Hope your mind clears and you have a great day!
Angie says
I’m with you–I HATE it too! I try to avoid direct eye contact so I won’t have to chat.
Marina says
That mug of coffee is so cute!
That b&b really sounds peaceful, I wish I could go somewhere like that with my bf 🙂
Enjoy!
Lindsay @ Summit Sandwiches says
It’s tough to relax when you have a ton of stuff on your mind. At least you have the beauty of those B&B gardens to calm you down. It looks like such a lovely place!

That B&B looks wonderful – what a great breakfast!

?Early Girl! Funny you are in Asheville, and Emily is in Topsail … two of my favorite places and I keep looking at the pics of familiar sights!!! We’re headed out to Topsail this Friday:) Seeing Asheville makes me think I should get back there again soon — but your blog has also made me want to visit Charlottesville too!

your entire post is awesome. I love the beer sampling and wish we had some around our area.
Your food looks divine and I love how you always add such great personality to the blog
Danielle says
I’m so glad that you posted where you two were staying. My husband and I were considering taking a trip to Asheville but I wasn’t sure where to stay. I’ve been before but I stayed with a friend in her parent’s cabin up in Hendersonville. The place looks lovely, homey and is very reasonably priced. Thanks for the recommendation!
Simply Life says
I LOVE breakfast outside – it just feels so special! Ha, I’m with you -I actually can’t remember the last time I slept until 7. Sad but I’ve learned how to love my mornings!
Marieke says
That sounds like a great breakfast – in Britain the breakfast is usually a fry up. Not that that’s not nice once in a while, but for me a bit greasy in the morning.
