Good morning!!!
I had been slurping up the cappuccinos lately thanks to our brand new Nespresso machine. This wasn’t a blog review freebie, and this post isn’t sponsored by Nespresso in any way. Just wanted to share how crazy I am about this new machine!
I first had a Nespresso at my friend Tricia’s house, and she made me a restaurant-quality cuppa in about 2 minutes. I was blown away. Plus the machine is just gorgeous!
The Nespresso espresso and coffee itself is so good too. My machine makes both, which I LOVE! Sometimes you want a tiny kick and other times you want a big mug of coffee. Both are frothy and full bodied. I’ve been a decaf drinker for a few years now and am back on regular coffee because these flavors are just so good. I’m not getting jittery either, so that’s a good sign that these aren’t insanely high in caffeine like Starbucks. I love that the pods are not made of plastic and you can recycle them, and Nespresso will even send you a free bag in which to return them. So far the blue and gold pods are my favorite flavors! The only one I don’t like is Hazelnut because I’m not crazy about flavored coffee, but the vanilla one is nice.
I ended up getting the machine plus frother as a bundle from Williams-Sonoma. I really wanted the one with the rounded top, and had a coupon at WS to get a little discount. It wasn’t cheap, but I totally think it was worth the cost. You can find the bundle on Amazon a bit cheaper than WS too.
The milk frother alone is worth the investment for putting on top of your French press or hot tea. It’s called the Aeroccino Plus. All you do is pour in the milk of your choice and push a button and you have perfect hot milk and froth in about a minute. You can swap out these two little magnetic spinners to either just do hot milk or hot milk plus froth. I make hot chocolate for Mazen so quickly in this thing! It’s really easy to clean too since the magnetic parts come out.
Breakfast today was a strawberry – banana – peanut butter smoothie. Plus a cappuccino! That cloud of foam!!
How do you drink your coffee?
Sagan says
Okay, now because of that first photo I REALLY want a cappuccino!
I always just drink my coffee black 🙂 Funny story — Mr. Science and I like strong coffee, so we were at the store one day and found a dark roast that looked great. We started drinking it and it was SO good.
Then we had friends over one day who observed that it was ESPRESSO ground coffee… but we were making it in a regular coffee machine!
We still have it every day like a regular cup of coffee instead of espresso-style. We really like our coffee 😀
KathEats says
I prefer espresso to coffee too!
Jen says
Oooo I’m totally looking into this. I’m so glad you spoke of the environmental aspect of it, too. That’s what has made me not buy a Keurig (among other things).
Andrea @ Blog Strength says
That cappuccino looks amazing, I’m having coffee envy this morning now! I will have to check out that milk frother it looks like a great little gadget to have. I’m not big on the coffee machines, i’m too stuck in my ways with my old french press. We do have a Nespresso cafe around here and I tried one, it was good, but still not for me.
Alice says
What ARE the pods made of?
KathEats says
Aluminum!

I had a Keurig all through college and this year I finally replaced it. I received the “Ninja Coffee Bar” as a gift and I am OBSESSED. I usually only drink 1-2 cups of coffee a day, and my boyfriend loves to drink iced coffee, so I love that I can make single cups. But I don’t have to worry about throwing away the k-cups or refilling my plastic one because it uses a regular coffee basket. It also makes a concentrated brew to make coffee drinks (my favorite is a cafe au lait.) And it comes with a carafe too, so if I ever want to make a pot, I can do it now.

That looks amazing! I love frothed milk! Normally I just add skim milk but I love a good latte!

I received a Nespresso Vertuoline for Christmas and it is life changing! I love the coffee and espresso so much, it has completely ruined me for other coffees and lattes 🙂 Also, the aeroccino is a must!
Shel@PeachyPalate says
Nespresso is awesome! I like a smooth americano with a drop of stevia and almond milk!
Erin @ Her Heartland Soul says
Yum!!!
Michelle K says
We have one of the Nespresso machines with the frother. Curious, how do you do the hot chocolate?
KathEats says
Just put in the milk heater stirrer and some hot chocolate mix and push go!
Emily @ Life on Food says
That cup of Joe is amazing! I really want a milk frother.
Kori says
I really love good, quality black coffee. =D I also love café au laits and espresso-based beverages. Your drinks look amazing!

i love that the aeroccino makes cold frothed milk, too. just hold the button longer and the light is blue = cold. also, fyi, the older milk gets the less it will froth, and organic milks froth way less than non-organic. when i talked to Nespresso about it, they said freshest, 2% gets most froth.

I really want a milk frother too! It’s one of the things I often find myself missing when I make coffee. For you question: I pretty much like all kind of coffee!
Sara says
So excited to see this post! I got my Nespresso in 2008 and it still works like a charm. Hands down, my favorite thing in my kitchen. I tell everyone about how great it is and am always so excited when someone buys one for themselves and loves it as much as I do 🙂 My FAVOURITE flavour is Caramel (not a strong flavour at all … I like my coffee on the mellow side). My other favourite is the Lungo (light blue). 🙂
KathEats says
I haven’t seen the Caramel!! I wonder if it’s the older version of the pods?
Sara says
Hmmm. Yes. I use the older style pods. Keep your eyes peeled for it in the other pods. To me, I think it has notes of coconut. So smooth. I love it 🙂
KathEats says
Oh yum! Yeah I’m not clear yet on which pods are new or old or if they’re both just different

We LOVE our Nespresso machine. I received it as a birthday gift a couple of years ago from my husband and have the exact same model and frother that you have. It makes perfect coffee every single time. Also, if you are concerned, like I was, about the pods, Nespresso has self addressed stamped bags that they will send you to ship back the used pods for recycling. But like you, I dont care for flavored coffees but for some reason enjoy their vanilla, hazelnut and caramel flavors as they aren’t over the top with a cloyingly sweet taste. They also had a swiss chocolate flavor during the holidays that they sold out of quickly so keep an eye out for limited edition flavors. Love me my Nespresso!

I have an older Nespresso foamer that I love. I make a latte every morning, but it’s not the greatest taste making it at home. I love the social thing of having a latte out, sitting at a coffee place, but the prices are pretty high. The coffee maker your are posting about sounds amazing and glad you mentioned the pods/environment too. The cost truly isn’t that bad considering what you spend getting a latte out. I’m wondering if the flavored pods are high in sugar – for those of us that watch our sugar. Thanks for sharing and for the info – I just may need to buy one!
KathEats says
The flavored pods do not have any sugar!
Cathy says
Good to know. Sugar and rheumatoid arthritis don’t mix.
Annie B says
We just got this machine at my office – I love it!! I’ll try the gold and blue pods now, per your recommendation. 🙂
KJ says
Happy you like you new toy, but surprised there’s no talk about how the capsules require a lot of energy to produce and recycle. Also, there’s growing concerns about the traces of aluminum you end up consuming through the pressing process. I totally get the convenience factor but for me it doesn’t outweigh the other costs. My pick: a manual Italian-style espresso machine.
Ttrockwood says
I have the classic nespresso machine and have been drinking espresso every morning for years. I alternate with my stovetop Bialetti since i have a few each day and the nespresso pods are much more expensive than a pound of very good espresso beans.
Best to use filtered water in it, otherwise there can be buildup in the machine eventually
becky says
Kath, not sure if you’ll see this since this is an older post, but I wanted to ask you a question about the temperature of your brew. We’re looking into Nespresso machines and are trying to decide between the Classico & Vertuo lines. The only consistent complaint I’ve read about Vertuo is that when you brew a coffee pod (versus an espresso), the coffee just isn’t hot enough-many people mention having to microwave their coffee 20-30 seconds.
Have you noticed your brews not being as hot as you’d like?
KathEats says
Great question! My Keurig coffee was always a little too hot for me to sip right away and I would let it sit for about 3 minutes before tasting it. The Nespresso IS a little cooler, but not in a bad way for me because I can sip it right away. So I’d say that if you like your coffee super piping hot you might not like it, but if you like it hot but not burning it will be fine
becky says
Bought the Vertuoline Evoluo today! We went to Sur la Table (not sure if you have that store around you) which has a great Nespresso display that allowed us to try different models and taste different espressos and coffee.
Also made hot chocolate for the kids in the frother. That thing is so much fun to use! Thanks for your opinions on it. My big fear-the coffee being too cool wasn’t an issue at all. My husband found it immediately drinkable, I thought it was at the top of my “drink right away” capabilities.
(Side note-The coffee mugs are AMAZING at keeping your drink at brewed temp: http://www.surlatable.com/product/PRO-2193167/Zwilling+JA+Henckels+Sorrento+Plus+Double+Wall+Coffee+Glasses+Set+of+2
We bought them with a gift card we got for buying our Nespresso today)
KathEats says
Yay on all fronts!!!
paula says
I’m going to purchase one! Where do you buy your pods and are they about the same price at most stores?
KathEats says
Williams Sonoma, Amazon. I get the pods directly
