FINALLY got in some YogaDownload!! After checking my emails in bed, I came down for some stretching. 30 minutes of Hot-Power Fusion later, ahhhh. My body felt so much more awake. My #1 favorite thing about yoga is what it does to my muscles. It’s almost as good as massage. I’m hoping with the start of the semester to get back into 20 minutes everyday or 45 every other.
Stillness is necessary in order to appreciate movement.
So true. Just have foot surgery to understand that one!
Of course Ashley’s ota.bar was all I wanted for breakfast. It was perfection crumbled over yogurt!
- 1 huge overripe plum, chopped
- 1 container Chobani plain
- 1 crumbled ota.bar
- 1
blogblob hazelnut butter
The ota.bar was incredible – perfectly sweet with really, really great chew.
On the side I dipped into my swag bag for some Amazing Grass. Ya’ll know I am not convinced that this stuff gives me super powers, but what I will admit is that it has an amazing placebo effect. You just feel healthier by drinking it. I don’t think I ever notice a physical difference though. But I will enjoy going through my packets! I prefer it mixed with mostly milk, some water, and ice and I like the chocolate ones the best.

Check out this awesome post by Blueberry Hil on sustainable seafood. I use Seafood Watch too (the iPhone app is my newest) and it’s a great resource. They also have a pocket printable one for your wallet.

And how cool is this Glamour news on We Are The Real Deal. The woman is stunning! LOVE that Glamour is embracing all variations of the womanly body. It’s all about perspective.

I’ve got some Real Food Consultations to start on! Plus writing. Plus lots of summit paperwork. A mushroom recipe to develop. Hoping to mow the grass and clean the house today too! Thinking I’m going to call that my workout to simplify the day.

OOoh, the ota.bar looks SO good! That plum is so colorful, like a jewel. 🙂

I just like the taste of the amazing grass chocolate powder.
LOL the guy at whole foods was trying to tell people that it would completely transform them and make them feel light as a feather and clear and all this other ridiculous stuff… so some lady asked me if I’d experienced any of that, having drank the stuff.
I didn’t want to embarrass the guy, so I just said, “Ummm, I don’t know, but it tastes good!”

The woman in Glamour is stunning, I was immediatly drawn to that gorgeous face and didn’t even look at her body for the first few seconds! 🙂

Kath thanks for sharing the Glamour link to the photo! Really helps me appreciate my shape even more and my tummy!
I need to get an ota bar! Will have to see if I can order online!

Also, I really do love Amazing Grass, I’ve been drinking it regularly since June and I feel a difference in how I feel. More energy, clearer head (less foggy), and I was able to cut my morning caffine content from 2 cups to 1 cup. 🙂 I guess it could be the placebo effect that makes me feel better when I drink it regularly, but whatever it is I’ll take it! Truthfully, I almost hate to say “how good” I feel on it, like I’ll jinx my results!
I do think the key to feeling anything different is drinking it regularly.
LOL…and it could be that I started reading healthy food blogs and getting other helpful tips in June that has made a difference in how I feel as well! 🙂

I need to check out the Glamour article. Hope you have a gread day Kath!
Lindsey (Mrs. LC) says
I can’t believe the gorgeous woman in the Glamour mag is a plus-sized model!!! That’s warped. So glad for that article though – we need to embrace women of all shapes and sizes!!
jess says
That picture in glamour makes me SO happy – I wish more models looked like my body!
Also I don’t know if I buy into all the claims of amazing grass but it really does taste good!
Wendy says
That woman in the Glamour magazine is lovely, but I still wish that they could put in some “normal” sized women sometimes and not make a big deal about it. I
Why are the non-sized 0 models always in special features or special articles on loving your body, or feeling comfortable in your own skin, or “embracing your curves”?
It feels like the magaizines are saying “Hey, look at this one representation of a healthy but non-skinny beautiful woman! Okay, now we’re done with that for the next 6 months.”
Why can’t they just be in the normal fashion and beauty articles?
Cynthia (It all changes) says
That’s totally how I feel about Yoga. I’m trying to get into doing it again everyday. I just feel so much better when I do.
Becci says
I love the Glamour picture! I got the magazine but somehow missed that photo. How refreshing to see a “real” woman!!!

i love the “i’m being healthy” placebo! Whenever I make green smoothies I can’t tell if they really make me feel amazing, or if I’m just so convinced that what I consumed is the most perfect food for my body, but the feeling I get is awesome!

The seafood app on the iphone is great. I have it as well. Real handy.
Question: Is it my computer or did you do something diff. with you site? It seems to take a long time to load now?

I would have to agree with you about yoga feeling like a massage. I’ve been doing Polly’s youtube videos and have been loving it!

Yum! Breakfast looks great today. I am doing yoga very soon and you made me very excited to get on my mat this morning 🙂

Cool links. Gonna go check out Glamour.
I like the chocolate Amazing Grass powders, too. From my experience, it really is a wonderfully generous company. I think I’ll do a review of them on my new blog soon.

yay for glamour!!
ota.bars remind me of globars.
and yay for yogadownload!! i’m brining it with me to mexico next week bc I’m not sure what type of workout facilities my hotel will have. I feel a little bit like you in Africa, but less exotic!
Mara @ What's for Dinner? says
I dont get any of the “superpowers” either but i do like the stuff!
Kate says
Mmmm, that chewy bowl of oats looks delish. I haven’t tried that particular yogadownload, but recently I have been doing downloads interspersed with yoga in a studio. I feel so proud everytime I can complete one at home… makes me feel like I’m really growing in my practice!
As for AmazingGrass, I LOVED the way it made me feel. 99% mental, I’m sure, as I eat pretty healthily normally, but mental counts for a lot!
Althea says
I saw that picture in my issue of Glamour! I LOVED it immediately. And then I saw the article online. I think it’s awesome that real women are being put in these types of magazines. She looks absolutely gorgeous and radiating confidence, even with her flaws. It just makes me feel so good about myself! 🙂
Oh and your breakfast looks fantastic. Makes me hungry! haha
Faye says
Not to be redundant, but it must be said- that Glamour photo is beautiful! Again, I couldn’t believe she is plus sized, but I guess that’s our society’s standards. I found the model so beautiful, and in my book, flawless.
What do you think about airbrushing? There seems to be a lot of talk about it theses days. What did you think about what the editor of Self Magazine said?

I had never heard that before, but it is so true! Wise words on a Thursday 🙂 Glad you enjoyed the yoga session!
Ashley’s bars look great and gorgeous woman in that Glamour link – thank you for posting that!

Amazing! I think what Glamor has dared to do is fantastic…and I can’t say I am not a little shocked that this came from Glamor magazine, especially on the cusp of the Self Mag. airbrushing controversy:

how great that there is a sustainable seafood iphone app! maybe i can get my vegetarian hubby to download it, though he might not want it crowding his desktop….

“Stillness is necessary in order to appreciate movement.” This quote rings especially true with me… one of my high school friends is now a paraplegic after a freak swimming accident. He used to be a VERY active guy – he played soccer, ran track, and was an accomplished curler. It certainly puts what our bodies are capable of – something we often take for granted – into perspective!
I just tried the Amazing Grass Wheatgrass from the swag bag, and am still up in the air about it. I couldn’t taste the “grassy” flavor because I loaded my smoothie up with frozen banana, fresh mango, and skim milk… but I wasn’t a huge fan of the resulting texture. I’m looking forward to trying the Kids Chocolate flavor in tomorrow’s Amazing Grass smoothie experiment!
Faith says
Kath, I swear you have the prettiest bowls! Thanks for sharing the Glamour news…you’re right, that model is gorgeous!
Kath says
Wendy ,
I have noticed that too!!! There will be a whole “love yourself” story and then you turn the page and the models are back to (ab)normal. One day…
Joanne ,
It shouldn’t be any slower 🙁
Re. SELF,
Yes, that whole story made me mad. I don’t believe in airbrushing – maybe just a pantyline or something material – but not bodies. I think Lucy keeps making it worse. She even used the word “perfection” on the Today’s show – is there such thing!? NO! I am all for normal looking models. In fact, I’d like to be one!
Kath

You are so right! Yoga is almost as good as a massage. Actually, I might even say it’s as good as a massage. For me, there’s a knot right below my right shoulder blade and when I’m lying on the ground in a twist, it totally works the knot out. Love that beautiful tasting plate BTW!
britt says
thanks so much for sharing the glamour article. i wish that one day all women would feel as comfortable in the own skin as the glamour model does. confidence!!

Hi Kath,
Long time reader, first time writing. I just did a beginners Yoga Download and I loved it. However, I wasn’t quite sure if I was doing the poses correctly since there was no visual. Is there any downloads that have someone doing them along with you? I just don’t feel 100% comfortable doing the poses without someone to watch.
Also, I’m a teacher that’s about to start school again. I want to stay healthy all year long, but it’s hard during the school year. Any tips to share about how to stay healthy and workout when you have VERY little time in the day? When I get home I SO don’t feel like cooking or working out.
THANKS! Keep up the great blog, I love it!
Andrea

Thanks so much for posting the Glamour article! I get Glamour magazine (got it for free somehow) and it’s not really my thing, but when I saw the pic in this month’s issue I was really happy. Glad to see all the buzz going on about it!
Kath says
Andrea ,
Each YogaDowload has a PDF pose guide that you can use to study up on the poses. It helps so much to see the person doing them before hand and you can always have it up to glance at during your class if you need it.
Can you fit in your work in the mornings? Even if it’s just something at home – Yogadownload, jump rope, a DVD, You Tube videos? I was always worn out by the end of the day too, which is why I got up at 4:50 to exercise before work. If you can’t, try having a substantial energy-boosting snack after work so you won’t be thinking about dinner so much and have a bit smaller dinner after your workout. Walking always counts!

I’d love to try some Amazing Grass.

Andrea, I agree with Kath. When my spouse and I worked out after work, 1/2 the time we just skipped it. Then we switched to the morning. My morning alarm clock goes off at 5 am, I get to work at 7:30 am. You just have to be willing to go to bed at a decent hour (for me, 9 pm).
