We are heading back to Cville this morning and wrapping up a lovely visit to Bald Head. It’s always such a beautiful place to visit! We all had a great time. Can’t wait to return when the weather is warm!
We did venture out to the beach, but boy was it chilly!! Mazen didn’t care at all though and was soaked from head to toe in 20 minutes. He loved running through the tide pools!
For dinner after our big brunch on Sunday we stayed in and had an indoor picnic.
No one was that hungry, so we snacked on cheese and bread, vino and a Caesar salad I bought at the market for some vegetables!
Breakfast the next morning was Irish Soda Bread (from home!) plus fruit and hard boiled eggs.
Mazen LOVED unwrapping the egg, but he didn’t seem to want to taste it at all. This would be such an ideal lunch box food for him, so I’m going to keep encouraging it!
I chipped away at a little bit of work each day – laptop with a view! I also went on a nice run – about 4.5 miles – around the island again. Plus the walking we did, I totaled about 7 miles for the day!
Post-run leftover Caesar salad plus leftover mahi mahi and olives on top.
Monday evening we went to the Bald Head Island Club for dinner.
We shared this scrumptious melted pimento cheese dip with chips for an appetizer
I had a seafood gumbo for dinner topped with cornbread croutons!
Tuesday morning’s breakfast looked a lot like Monday’s but I had a fried egg on the side instead of a hard-boiled one.
After breakfast, I took M to rent bikes! We had high hopes for a tandem, but he was still a little too small to reach the pedals. So instead we tried a trailer for the first time and he loved it! I pulled him all around the island for over an hour.
For lunch I brought mom and me salads from Delphina’s – mango, jicama, shrimp, orange.
And then we packed up and went back to the beach. It was still breezy and freezing! Mazen still didn’t care – he insisted on wearing shorts and a t-shirt and didn’t see cold at all! I guess this is why when we were little Larbs and I would beg to get on our bathing suits and slip n slide. Kids just don’t get as cold!
The grown-ups had beers
And then we all hunted for sea shell treasure like pirates!
Tuesday night we ate our final dinner at Delphina’s, which is probably my favorite restaurant on the island! I had a marg to start – with salt please!
Then we shared the chips n dips. Always a crowd pleaser, especially when Mazen announces “Guacamole is made from avocados!!”
And finally I had two soft shell crab tacos, which were SO good!!!!
Sea ya soon Bald Head!

You should have another good opportunity to try the hard boiled eggs with Mazen if you end up making Easter Eggs together…that’s definitely on my to-do list this weekend 🙂
Looks like a pleasant trip!

That sounds like a great visit! It’s funny how kids just don’t care about being cold when they’re having fun!

Great pictures! Looks like such a fun trip. Can’t wait to go down the shore this summer. I’m so happy about berries being back in season, too : )

When we were little, mom would put faces on our boiled eggs by using q-tips and food coloring.

That looks like a really nice trip. Beautiful pictures and Mazen looks so happy. We loved how gorgeous and peaceful it was there when we visited in 2010. I am dying to go back, except we could not stand the island’s tap water. It reeked and ruined our showers, cooking, and restaurant meals. How is the water now?
KathEats says
The water is awful!!

In the photo of you sipping wine, the top you’re wearing looks so comfortable. Where is it from?
KathEats says
It’s a Sweatshirt thing from LOFT a few years ago

I also think Mazen might get braver to taste the eggs if he dyes them this weekend! 🙂 Kind of fun when the egg on the inside gets some dye on it as well. 🙂
This looks like a lovely lovely place. My family used to go to Fripp Island near Beaufort when I was younger. We are hoping to take a family trip somewhere warmer for Christmas week next winter, for our first Christmas not at home. I think after 35 years we are ready for a change in tradition, and would love to have a warmer Christmas experience other than the freezing cold we always have up in Connecticut. Any suggestions on places to rent a nice big family beach house in late December? I imagine it might still be chilly in SC then- welcome any suggestions from you or other readers! Thank you! 🙂

I love seeing all your meal posts again….it feels like old times! Remember when you posted every meal? I loved that – those early posts really helped me shape up my eating: “Oh! THAT’S what an actual single portion of chicken looks like! :)” You probably don’t want to return to all that food documentation, but we sure like it when it makes an appearance. <3

Agreed about it feeling like old times with the pics and meals – love it! : )

I have to ask…this has nothing to do with today’s post but how is Mazen’s name pronounced? It it pronounced like Mason or Maze-in?
KathEats says
Maze-in rhymes with raisin!

Hi Kath- I am really really sad to read your news about you and Matt. Being married is really tough and it definitely ebbs and flows. I hope that you guys will take some time to step back and really give your decision lots and lots of thought. Go slow, my friend. And I will keep all of you guys in my prayers.
Sending you love and hugs from a long time reader, an older mom of 5 and a fan of yours 🙂
