I’m at a coffee shop mooching internet. Our AT&T Uverse is still down. Don’t they realize our internet is my JOB!? They’re coming today after lunch, so hopefully it will be fixed when I get home. I don’t think I can handle going out at 9PM to upload!
I was up at 5 this morning for a workout. I hate it when I work out in the evening and then plan to get up in the morning. Although it’s two separate days, I feel like there’s not enough time for a full recovery! My back is sore today from last night’s lifting. So when these back-2-back workouts happen, I try to do a lighter resistance or simple cardio as more of a “flush the muscles” deal than pushing myself hard. Today I did 45 minutes of ellipticaling with a magazine and then foam rolled my muscles out. I need a foam roller at home. And I also hope I’m doing it right! I always feel like a funky mermaid on the foam roller!
After two breakfasts out, I could not WAIT for some oatmeal today!!
The Mix
- 1/4 cup rolled oats
- 3 tbsp Bob’s Red Mill Hot Apple Cinnamon Cereal
- 1/4 cup milk
- 3/4 cup water
- Pinch salt
- Half banana
- Half tbsp chia seeds
- 1/3 cup cottage cheese, stirred in at end
- Crumbled Low-fat Blueberry WW Muffin from Great Harvest
- Naturally Nutty Vanilla PB Sauce!
This is me shaking my fist at AT&T for our broken internet!!!
I watched some of GLEE at breakfast. Some people are turned on by men in uniforms. For me it’s a SINGING male. Today Puck sang his version of “Sweet Caroline” and I just about melted. I hadn’t really cared for him until that moment! When Matt and I fell in love almost 10 years ago he used to play songs for me and sing on his guitar. Now it’s dusty in the guest room closet! Hmmm…
Friday dance is totally happenin’ right now!! However, I have a lot of freelance projects to work on this weekend, so I won’t get to fully relax until Saturday night. But I do have an 11 miler planned for Sunday!! Scary!! (Blister is healing well. A new colleague recommending putting Vaseline on it to keep it slippery in my sock and that seems to work really well!)
Have a good one!
Gabriela says
I HATE when the internet is down! I think I’m way too dependent on it! Hope everything gets resolved quickly 🙂
Freya @ Brit Chick Runs says
I can’t stand it when my internet is down – I go insane! Plus I live in the middle of nowhere, so I can’t go to an internet cafe or anything..it’s like losing an arm! (except not :s).
Hope it all gets sorted out asap 🙂
Heather (Heather's Dish) says
so glad the blister’s doing better! i hate it when our internet is down. we even switched companies because it was so bad! hope it’s fixed for you later 🙂
happy friday girl! friday dance is happening in 3…2…1…! 🙂
Ann @ Appalachian Appetites says
Thank goodness wi-fi is available in lots of places now. Enjoy your cup of coffee and know it could be worst! You’ll get it all done! Have a great day!
Allison (Eat Clean Live Green) says
The cottage cheese sounds interesting – I think it would be good in savoury oats!
Good luck with the internet 🙂
Jessica @ How Sweet says
Woohoo for Friday! I would totally mooch internet, too. 🙂
Rachel @ Suburban Yogini says
Isn’t Puck hot in that scene!!! 😀
I too love singing men. Himself still plays guitar and sings Everlong for me when he remembers.
Andrea says
I love a man that sings. I just about fell in love with my boyfriend all over again when we were playing Rock Band recently. He was so cute I nearly died.
Have a wonderful Friday!!
Melissa says
That’s great news about your blister. I got them all the time when I ran my first half marathon, but they don’t seem to appear much anymore (I think the areas have calloused maybe?). Vaseline must work well, but if you have any more problems, definitely get some Body Glide. You can find it in any sporting goods store. I use it for every run to prevent chafing and on blister-prone areas. It looks like a deodorant container and is pretty cheap.
rustique says
Broken internet is devastating. Your oatmeal’s a good consolation though!
Jen says
I feel the same exact way about Puck! He’s a cutie. You need to get the Glee CD so you can play Sweet Caroline over and over 😉
Kath says
I don’t need the CD when I have Grooveshark!
Run Sarah says
Hope your Internet gets working soon. I love a breakfast in after a few days out – nothing quite like homecooked oats!
Abby says
Boo for crappy internet!! My husband plays bass, but doesn’t sing so singing men don’t do anything for me. I do like men in uniform, but my husband doesn’t have one of those either– I guess I can’t explain my logic!
Shayna @ Cuts and Curves says
YUM! It looks so good. How does your oatmeal always look so amazing?? I just want to crawl into my computer screen to your house for the purpose of having a breakfast with you.
Allie (Live Laugh Eat) says
Don’t they realize there are thousands of people that need to see what you ate for breakfast before they can go on with their day!?!?! Come on AT&T!!
I found both vol 1 and 2 of the Glee soundtrack in my apartment (they belong to my roomie), so I loaded ’em on my compie!! Do you have them? Do you want a copy?!
Kath says
I listen to them on Grooveshark, but I’d love a copy for my car sometime!
Katherine says
Make Matt break out the guitar again! Can’t wait until Glee is new again…
Oatmeal looks delish!
kalli@fitandfortysomething says
ugh I feel so disconnected to the world when the internet is down……yes friday dance is happening over here too!
Sarena (The Non-Dairy Queen) says
Sorry about the internet…that stinks! My husband and I work at home and that would be crippling! As for the workout, I am so sore after pilates two days ago. I skipped the workout early this morning and am thinking it is a yoga day. Then back at it tomorrow! Have a great day and I hope they get the internet back up and going today.
Mara @ What's For Dinner? says
Thats the same moment when I started liking Puck in Glee! well, actually, when he revealed he’s Jewish was the first, but then that was the 2nd 🙂
Heather says
have you gotten ahold of the glee volume 1 cd yet? LOVE IT and sweet caroline is on there 🙂
Kelley says
Vaseline works… but you can get “Body Glide” at any running or sports store. It lasts for a very long time. Also, as you already said, make sure your socks are dri-fit and not cotton. Good luck!
Lauren @ Eater not a runner says
Yay for Friday! hope you have a good one and the internet is back in action soon 🙂
Joanne says
I think you should take a photo of the “funky mermaid” you on the roller. That way you can get feedback from you bloggers in the correctness of “funk-mer” posture. And the rest of us…you can make us laugh as usual. 🙂
Good luck with that blister. It must have been a really bad one to take so long to heal although, since you’ve been running and doing other exercise, maybe it has been aggrevated a bit.
Kath says
Not sure I want to be taking photos in my gym. I could demo on my yoga mat?
Morgan @ Life After Bagels says
I wish I could figure out the whole foam rolling thing. I haven’t attempted it at the gym because I’m always afraid to look foolish.
Christie @ Honoring Health says
Hope your internet is back up and running soon. I always feel so out of touch when I can’t get on the internet.
Paige(Running Around Normal) says
Omh I get SO ancy when the internet is down. Bah!
I did the same thing with working out today. I had to workout after work last night, and it was a pretty hard core workout, and then turned around to run this morning. Let’s just say my run wasn’t as quick as I intended. Oh well! 🙂
Paige(Running Around Normal) says
Woops – meant to say Omg, not omh hehe
JENNA says
I love a singing man as well! 😉 so cute!
I hope your oats…..hahahah lol ….i meant to say I hope your internet gets back up and running soon! Apparently I can’t get your oats outta my brain!
11 miles??? goodness…i’m sure it will go great! 🙂
Larb's Matt says
Ah, the ol’ vasoline trick…brings me back to the days of youth soccer…
shannon (the daily balance) says
my internet was down this morning, too! what the HECK? I’m joining you in the Friday dance – cheers to a great weekend! 😉
The Paris Food Blague says
aren’t the people in Glee high schoolers….? it’s ok, i have no right to judge. when i was in high school my heart melted for tony blair. no, i don’t think i will ever live that down

cara says
I feel like I need a foam roller. I have no idea how they work though. Maybe you can do a demonstration of it sometime to see if you do it right. heh 😉
Heather @ Health, Happiness, and Hope says
Augh, I hate it when the internet is down. I usually hook up to our dial-up, but that is SOOOOOOOO slow that I can’t usually post anything. Hope it’s back up and running for you soon!
Katie says
Hey! I just wanted to say I absolutely love your blog and hope to someday have one like this! I am running my first half marathon a week from Sunday w/a friend and am worried about the long run this weekend of 10 (even though I’ve done it before) but I was sick for 5 days and feel out of shape! FYI, I used vaseline on my heals when I played competitive soccer and it worked for the most part! Goodluck!
-Katie
Kath says
Thanks Katie!
Make sure to get plenty of H2O during your run and eat a nice recovery meal with PRO and CHO to replenish!
Gina says
Kath, I have a foam roller at home which is great, but I found something even better at a running store that is a bit less awkward to use and really targets the knots. It’s awesome for neck and shoulders too. It’s called “The Stick” – http://www.thestick.com/ – and I highly recommend it for sore and stiff muscles! I try to use it every night since I often get leg cramps from tight muscles, and rolling them out makes the cramps disappear right away. Good luck on your 11 miler this weekend!
Kath says
Cool!
Allison K says
I hear ya on the “funky mermaid” thing. So awkward!
And I’m with you on the “singing men” thing too…although for me, most musicians who play stringed instruments (including guitar) get me every time. I think it stems from a crush I had on a guy in highschool who played violin in my orchestra. yum!
HeatherC says
Your oatmeal always looks so delicious….. makes my mouth water. About how much of the muffin are you crumbling in?
Kath says
Depends on the muffin size! This one was smaller so I had about 1/3 but typical GH muffins are huge and I maybe have 1/6?
lynn (The Actors Diet) says
get matt to dust off that guitar and serenade you!
Vicky says
Thanks for all of your inspiration for healthy eating and exercise. One question, I love oats like you, but wonder if I should alternate such a high carb breakfast with more low carb (high protein) breakfast to encourage weight loss? Any comments on this (carb cycling) from a future RD?
Kath says
I don’t think you should worry about day to day – it really depends on your energy needs, workouts, etc. More important might be to alter higher CHO and higher PRO meals throughout the day. Don’t have CHO as the base for all three, but base lunch or dinner on veggies or higher protein foods.
jaclyn@todays lady says
Too bad about the internet! I agree about the back to back workouts. You definitely need a lighter workout if you haven’t had a full 24 hour recovery after strength training!
Kati @ Living Well says
11 miler…yikes! Good luck! Before I did my half, the most I covered was 9 miles
Trishelle says
Kath, I laughed out loud at your fist pump picture that appeared in your coffee mug – how appropriate!! 😀
Glad the blister is healing well! Good luck with your freelance work and 11 mile run this weekend. Woot!
Sara says
HIIIIILLLLLArious!!!! I was going to say the say about your fist pumping picture! How timely for that to pop up… or it was just waiting to be interpreted that way. Have a great day!
Bronwyn says
OH the woes of the internet!
I love my foam roller. I just got one (and totally feel like a funky mermaid!) and it’s neat. I’m not sure if it’s really working just yet, but I think it is… I’m hoping it will help with muscles for my half-marathon training.
Good luck with the 11miler!
skinnyrunner says
haha, i like your coffee shaking fist action!
Katie says
Kath,
I know this is a studid question but I was just wondering if you put anything in your coffee or if you drink it black?
Kath says
Skim milk
Michele | aka Raw Juice Girl says
I feel your pain with the broken internet. Sending prayers that it’s fixed PRONTO!!! *hugs*
Love the “shaking fist” in your coffee. LOL – I heart those little coffee images of yours. 😉
And I finally watched your oatmeal video. Looks SO good the way you make it!! Everyone is weighing their food in the blogosphere, it seems. I might have to try that out myself.
Have a great day, Kath!
Karina (Like Some Cat from Japan) says
Wow, 11 miles! That is impressive.
Love the breakfast this morning as always.
You know, my nutritionist comments on how lovely your breakfasts are and I always agree with her! I snatch wonderful ideas from you 🙂
Have a great day
Karina
Kath says
Fun to hear 🙂
Sarah (Running to Slow Things Down) says
Oh girl, I hope you get your internet back…what a pain!
And I totally know what you mean about pm and am workouts, back to back. I considered working out last night, but I ended up just doing some gentle stretching because I knew I wanted to get in a good workout this morning. Two workouts that close to each other just doesn’t go well with me.
Anais says
I LOVED it when Puck sang that song!! My heart totally melted… and it’s melting again just thinking about it! I think I’m going to go put on the Glee soundtrack to help me work 🙂
Christine @ Grub, Sweat and Cheers says
Back to back workouts are a killer! I like to schedule the opposite – as in a morning workout followed by an evening one the next day – always feel like I’ve had 2 days off when it’s really only one.
Have a good weekend!
Tara says
pahahahahahhaahah. you shaking your fist cracked me up
Kelly @ Local Foodie Fight says
that Vaseline tip is a good one.
anddd
that oatmeal looks totally yum.
lauren says
i can not believe i forgot to tell you Second Skin when you first posted about your blister! it is the most AMAZING blister healing product i have used. its a blue moist gel insert that you put beneath a bandage. its made by Spenco, you should def try it!
Kath says
I looked for it at Harris Teeter and they didn’t have it. I will look harder!
Foy Update - Garden. Cook. Write. Repeat. says
Guys with guitars are the most romantic. Although pianos are also nice.
I’m with you on the internet. Ours hasn’t been turned on yet at our new apartment. I can connect to an unsecured connection if I sit in the bay window, but it is only two bars. I can’t wait until ours works.
Jessica @ The Process of Healing says
Wow that is one INCREDIBLE bowl of oats!!!
No fun about the internet. I’m lost when ours is down.. amazing how much we depend on it these days!
Deanna - The Unnatural Mother says
Boy Oh Boy, you make me want oats and coffee@@
Hannah says
I am completely the same about men who sing! And play piano. I don’t want a rockstar, just a Broadway star, thanks!
Sheila | Live Well 360 says
Hey Kath,
I love foam rolling too! I try to do it 2-3x per week and I really do believe this has added to the long and lean lookand feel a big difference in my calves and quads. I wrote this article a while back on how to do it correctly: http://bit.ly/NBDsg if you are interested.
Happy Friday!
Cynthia (It All Changes) says
I have to stagger my workouts to maximize the effectiveness. If I don’t I end up injured.
Rachel says
I always feel like a fish out of water when I try to use a foam roller. It is just so awkward and I must look hilarious. But some people love them!
Your oats always look amazing and creamy. Now I am hungry for some!
LindsayRuns says
Puck is my favorite! I love my bad boys!
Christena says
You are so funny! I laughed out loud at the thought of you shaking your fist at AT&T. That’s exactly what the coffee shape looks like!
Stacey@http://stacey-healthylife.blogspot.com/ says
I understand how you feel about craving a home breakfast.
Jenna says
