We had a great day at the bakery today – loads and loads of bread + sweets went from flour to breakfast, lunch and dinner tables all around town!
I walked home before dark (and before it started raining!) and had a simple leftovers dinner – strategically planned! Matt decided to make another batch of oatmeal mix t the last minute, so we ate separately.
I munched over the movie Dear John. I read the book when it came out, but I couldn’t remember a thing about the plot. I love Nicholas Sparks movies because they’re always set in the most gorgeous Southern coastal towns. They might not be the most mind bending plots (although I really liked this one!) but they are fun to watch.
Leftover crockpot chili with yogurt and cheese and a side of pita chips for crunch!
“Bless this highly nutritious microwavable macaroni and cheese chili dinner and the people who sold it on sale. Amen.” –Home Alone 🙂
Boss has me on the clock at 6am tomorrow, so I best be gettin’ ta bed!
Molly @ RDexposed says
Loooove Home Alone quotes! Lock the doors before 9:00 so you can actually eat rather than battle burglars.

the pita chips look great right now to me. Love the late night crunchy snacks.
Interesting you guys are so busy right now…you’d think people would be at home baking their own sweets and treats but sounds like the last minute lucy’s of the world are out buying them…good for you$$ 🙂
Jillian says
I would assume a lot of people don’t have the time or energy during the week to bake everything they might need for the holiday- plus it’s better to get them later so they’re fresher 😉
J3nn (Jenn's Menu and Lifestyle Blog) says
Here in NY, the holidays are the busiest times for bakeries, and my favorite time to visit them, too. Fresh bakery bread + pastries makes the holidays extra special. I cannot imagine making Italian pastries from scratch; they’re something only our local bakeries have mastered–thankfully. 🙂

Love that quote! I watched that movie a few years ago now and my friends gave me flak for it – but I actually liked…I may have cried in it as well 😉

Hahaha, had to comment on the Home Alone quote! I saw it as a kid and it’s one of my favorite holiday time movies ever. And I, too, can recite pretty much all of it by heart 🙂

Hi Kath:
Do you or Matt have any suggestions for books or websites on breadbaking at home?
KathEats says
I think Matt’s favorite is Artisan Bread in 5 Minutes A Day. He also loves Alton Brown’s “Just Here For The Food” books – they’re very good at teaching techniques.
Kiran @ KiranTarun.com says
Kath,
Just to let you know, I’ve been having trouble posting comments today 🙂

Microwaved leftover dinners are the best. I really do love leftovers… not sure how some people despise them so much! Have a great holiday. I bet the bakery is so fun this time of year.

Love the wheat motif in your loaves of bread! Your chili dinner would certainly hit the spot after your long day. Bit of snow on the ground this morning…somewhat wintery.
