Here are snapshots of life at home!
Birchie is all about nature
He LOVES being outside and cries every single time we have to come back in. We’ve been doing lots of exploring behind our house.
Those little shoes are ones I kept from Mazen!! They make great play shoes because I don’t mind if he gets them all muddy. I think there’s actually some mud on them that’s 6 years old.
Smothered
I need to find a way to babyproof Mazen – ha! We constantly have to remind him how little Birch is and that he can’t climb on top of 6′ tall pillow fort towers like Mazen can.
They are great playmates though.
Lego Architect
Mazen recently entered a contest that the Blue Ridge Homebuilders Association put on where they asked children to built a Lego house (from scratch, not from a Lego set) and submit it via email and photos. M worked very hard on his!
Title: Winter Lake House
Mazen’s description:
- that lady was making a pizza on the roof deck and it fell off the deck so she jumped off the deck and is smiling because she got the pizza.
- smoke is coming out of the chimney because who would not have a fire in winter?
- there is a whale 2 boats a dock and a garage and three floors in the lake house.
Late Nights, Late Mornings
We’ve been enjoying new hours since M doesn’t have to get up early for school. He’s been sleeping in a bit and staying up later. Once B goes to bed, we sometimes play a family game. Lately it’s been Yahtzee! Yahtzee was one of my favorites when I was little. Mazen picked it up very fast and actually beat us on the first try!!
Birch is a little builder too – he loves these little tubes that used to be Mazen’s. (Similar to these I think.)

When the weather is nice we spend most of the day outside. It breaks my heart for people who are stuck without any access to green space. I honestly can’t imagine being indoors for more than a day at a time. Last week I walked/ran almost 10 miles in one day between a run, a long walk, and chasing Birch through the alley behind our house.
Quaran-times for Gus
This big boy wishes he could be out enjoying the weather. Soon enough Gussie!

Totally off subject but I remember you raving about your black Athleta Inlet vest this past Winter. I noticed that there is another color and it is on sale with an extra 40 percent off with the coupon code for under $30 and the color is called Birch Grey. Sounds like you might need it!!
Kath Younger says
Oh man I’m annoyed I paid close to full price for that in the fall! I probably don’t need two, but I love seeing Birch anywhere!!

Birch is so cute and mighty with those curls and carrying his stick around! My little guys always had to have a stick in one hand and sometimes both! And, the mud…oh yes. 🙂 So agree with the need to be outdoors!
Mazen is so creative! A friend mine played with legos all the time as a child and is a successful architect as an adult! May I ask where you purchased the little table for Mazen to work on? It appears to be adjustable and looks like a great work space for children.
Always a joy to read your blog! Have a good week…

It’s actually a little IKEA desk I’ve had for 10 years. It is adjustable!

Can you give me the color name and brand of your composite decking? Thanks! I like it!

Thomas says it’s Weathered Ice by Wolf.

Having outdoor access is such a huge blessing during this quarantine! Going on walks in our neighborhood and playing in our yard have been our saving grace!
