My massage this morning was heavenly. And LONG! The gift certificate was for 90 minutes, and Jay generously spent even more time on me from start to finish, including a consultation.
Jay runs Core Revitalization and does a unique blend of therapies that involve making the body looser, stretchier, softer and more malleable. He did a little reflexology, a little acupressure, a little deep tissue massage, some stretching and LOTS of jiggling + shaking!!! My toes, hips, quads and hamstrings got quite the knead. Revitalized! Thank you Jay!
After my massage I treated myself to lunch downtown!
Walking the mall was so exhilarating. It’s a beautiful day, and all the people out and about were full of life.
I settled on lunch at Eppies, which is perhaps my favorite casual spot on the Mall
What started as a vegetarian plate of black beans, cornbread, sweet potato and a side salad…
Turned into quite the KERF-ed up salad!
I poured the black beans on top and diced up the sweet potato. Cornbread on the edge!
Their cornbread is like cake!
This salad completely hit the spot and left me so full I canceled my plans for gelato!
I also brought my book, however..
Books = timeless
Blogs = real time
…so I ended up reading blogs + emails on my phone. Still fun!
I’m down at the bakery now, ready to get some afternoon action. If I can muster up the energy in my muscles!
Claire @ Live and Love to Eat says
I have to really be in the mood to want cornbread, but that looks so good!
Andrea @ The Skinny Chronicles says
Gift certificates for massages are my favorite present to receive (and give). You just can’t go wrong. I am so glad you were able to treat yourself today.
Cait's Plate says
That was so creative putting the sides right into your salad. I never would have thought to do something like that – I guess that’s why you do what you do 😉
Glad your massage went well – hope your muscles aren’t too doughy to work this afternoon!
Colleen (What's Baking in the Barbershop) says
Mmmm, that salad looks fab! Glad you had a great massage too! So nice to treat yourself every now and then 🙂
Kate (What Kate is Cooking) says
That sounds like the perfect day to me 🙂

Have a wonderful long weekend!
kaila @ healthy helper! says
That massage sounds heavenly….I could really use one! And that veggie platter looks even better! I love all three of those components…..specially the cornbread with REAL chunks of corn!
Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga says
…so I ended up reading blogs + emails on my phone. Still fun! = THAT IS ME!
I always end up reading blogs, my email, my google reader, anything other than real books, usually…what can I say, I love the instantaneous, real time stuff!
And a 90 min massage, and you were able to venture out and walk around? Impressive! I am usually just a limp noodle after a massage and walk around totally aimlessly and disoriented in my post massage bliss…haha!
Anna @ Newlywed, Newly Veg says
Mmmm…traded “cake” for gelato I suppose, right? Glad the massage was a good one– there’s really nothing better!
Gina @ Running to the Kitchen says
Yummm, cornbread.
Gelato is one of those things that no matter how full, I still go for it 🙂
The Teenage Taste says
Aren’t massages the best?! Glad you enjoyed it, Kath! Jay sounds wonderful! 🙂
Emily says
KERFed lunch looks great! I always get torn between books and blogs when I have access to both…trying to do get wrapped up in a new book!
Melissa @ HerGreenLife says
Skipped the gelato? That’s never good 😉
When we were in Italy this spring, our strategy was to share a gelato every day. We got to try lots of great flavors, and it was never too much — you just needed Matt with you. All of the walking we did also helped us work up quite the appetite.
Ashley says
I had a similar tasting lunch. Corn tortillas with sweet taters + beans! hehe Could definitely go for that cornbread!
rumfunandsun says
I lose track of time with blogs and books! I tend to get caught up either way! I do have to say blog reading is much easier to tear myself away from! Glad your massage went well!
Meredith says
I <3 Eppie's!!!! Especially the ham biscuits on pumpkin bread 🙂
Katie @ Nourishing Flourishing says
I love having a few hours of “me” time! Glad you could squeeze some relaxin’ and pamperin’ in 🙂
sarah (sarah learns) says
sounds like a perfect morning! i’m jealous of your massage – i could use one right about now too!
Cait @ Beyond Bananas says
Hhaha I love how blogs took precedence over books. I am totally that way too.. however – the past two days have been different as I have been engulfed in a book called Ain’t No Sunshine by Leslie Debious. Very Strange – but hooking book. (Hooking is NOT the right word, either.. guess I’ve read to much today.. brain is dead..)
Nacho Lindsay says
Good call on sweet potatoes and black beens. Excellent food combo.
Laura @ prettylittlewords says
Ohhh I could TOTALLY use a massage right now. Jealous! Do you ever exercise after your massages?
KathEats says
Nope, before only!
Baking 'n' Books says
Are you sore from the massage? – y’know in a “good way”? Massages can typically leave you sorer if worked hard.
90 minutes! I’ve only ever had a 45 min. one – and they stuck to the limit! I need a Jay.
Kim says
I have a massage gift certificate I need to turn in soon! That Eppies plate looks amazing – we walked by there the last time we were in town and I’m planning on stopping for lunch next time. I’ll have to try your KERF creation!
Alex says
That cornbread looks great! I love the texture of it when it’s full of kernels…
Christine (The Raw Project) says
Nice on the massage and thanks for reminding me I have a gift certificate to use and soon! Lunch looks great, what a nice day.
Foodie says
“This salad completely hit the spot and left me so full I canceled my plans for gelato!” –> I never do that. You’re so smart, actually paying attention to how full you are.
Mama Pea says
Blogs=real time
Books=timeless
Books written by bloggers=best of both worlds
Just thought that was worth mentioning. 😉
KathEats says
Haha, true dat!
Meaghan O'Connor (My Spoonful of Inspiration) says
I always love seeing your colorful and creative salads! Never a dull meal for you 🙂
Namaste Gurl says
What a fun and creative lunch! I’ve never seen a place that serves black beans and cornbread together 🙂 I love when restaurants serve sweet stuff with meals, hits the spot!

You had to go from being kneaded at your massage, to lunch, then to kneading bread the bakery 🙂 Or maybe you just sold bread at the bakery?

Note to self – get massage. STAT! 😉
Molly @ RDexposed says
A massage and cornbread? I’m liking that combo.
We have a massage therapist that wanders around at the hospital, but I swear she never comes to our department. 🙁
Miranda @ Working Mom Works Out says
That’s awesome. Do people ever look at you funny when you’re concocting these KERF lunches?
KathEats says
Not that I ever notice..

Sarah@The Flying ONION says
Cornbread is my favorite. This one looks so cakey and doughy. Love! 😀
Lauren @ MRS says
A massage feels good right about now. My poor back has been suffering from my bad posture and my awful chair. I really should get one, one of these days.
Felicia (Natural + Balanced) says
ohhh cornbread how i love thee
Kristin @ eat healthy. be happy. live well. says
I’ve been reading the blogs lately instead of my books as well! I feel the same way!
Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin says
Lunch downtown with a good book sounds like such a great way to spend some “me time”. I’ve always been too nervous to dine alone at a restaurant though!
Lee @ Fit Foodie Finds says
Kath, I want your photog skills!
KathEats says
🙂
Kathleen @ KatsHealthCorner says
Absolutely HEAVEN!!! 😀
Catherine@happinessafterheartache says
I like your rationalization about blogs being real time. I have been feeling a little guilty lately neglecting my books and my scrapbooking in order to blog. But, those things will be there when I get done looking at all of my favorite blogs!
Katherina @ Zephyr Runs says
LOL the books = timeless, blogs = real time gets me all the time!! I’ve pulled out the book I’m trying to read at least a dozen times this week only to wonder what’s going on in the blog world 😛
Black beans + sweet potato is a dangerously delicious combination btw. <3
Khushboo says
What a wonderful afternoon! You can always count on blogs for ‘company’…I know I do 🙂
Jackie @ That Deep Breath says
I find myself reading blogs & working on my own on my lunch break rather than…uh…eating lunch!? haha it’s funny how quickly it takes over your life! But so fun
Aine @ Something to Chew Over says
I would LOVE a massage, I’m very jealous! I always spend my lunch on blog business 🙂
