LOST watchers will appreciate this song!!!
I am obsessed and listened to it on repeat about 100x today. [Just ask Matt ;)]
The lyrics are so true though – make your own music and sing your own special song…ev-en if nobody else sings along. It’s a great life lesson for us all in every industry!
Afternoon popsicle to celebrate hitting 60* outside.
They say keys to handling morning sickness are to eat every 2 hours, stay hydrated and never let your blood sugar drop. I made a big mistake this afternoon and only had that popsicle (I wasn’t hungry) and then nausea hit me around dinnertime. Intuitive eating doesn’t work in this condition! I ended up having about 15 saltines before dinner and then this beverage:
The closest mock pina colada there is!
But I would have rather been drinking this IPA!
Do you see those green stalks????
I ATE THEM! Willingly and with passion. I have NO idea why asparagus is the only green veggie I like right now (other than Caesar salad..)
Matt got our grill on this evening!
I picked up some ribeye steak from the Organic Butcher this weekend. Protein and iron are two important things in pregnancy, and red meat is probably the best source of iron there is (bioavailability speaking). We hardly ever cook steaks around here, but this was good!
Toasty slice of Popeye bread on the side. Spinach = more iron! Ha!
Tapped into layer #2 of the chocolates – a few nibbles from each – for dessert!
We’re on a Lost-a-thon and smack in the middle of Season 3.
Mama Cass knows best!
“Just to do your thing’s the hardest thing to do”

Kinley @ Better Off Barefoot says
Good job on getting some veggies in 😉
Also, I have that brand of coconut drink and was pleasantly surprised how tasty it was!!
Allie@LiveLaughEat says
This shows JUST how good asparagus is…even a veggie-dislikin’ preggo lady loves ’em :). Have a great night!
Stephanie @ Legally Blinde says
Wow, popsicles and grilling, that sounds divine! And those chocolates look amazing – I love that you take little bites of each of them.
Stephanie @ Legally Blinde says
PS I like the new arrows! Very cool!
Katie @ Raisins&Apples says
I’ve never had a KeVita…something new to try! Enjoy your evening 🙂
Connie says
Those Gerhearts are just incredible! My favorites are the spicy Maya and smooth Earl gray. My bf and I almost polished an entire two-layer box in one night last year they’re just THAT good! One of my finer moments 🙂 Enjoy!!
Katie @ Peace Love & Oats says
Ahhh I’m so jealous of your box of fancy chocolates! I should just buy myself one, haha but it’s just not the same!
Simply Life says

Jenny@vegetarianhatesvegetables says
I craved grilled and roasted veggies all throughout my pregnancy. That asparagus looks just wonderful. Good song!
Sarena (The Non-Dairy Queen) says
Look at you eating your greens! Good girl! I found some incredible asparagus the other day and have been loving it roasted as a snack lately. Enjoy your show tonight!
Maria@Sinfully Nutritious says
We asparagus lovin tonight too. I am jealous you were in the 60’s. Lucky!!!
Glad you seem to feel better.
Lauren @ Lawfully Wedded Wife says
Haha, that song is sounding very familiar. I watched every single episode of Lost when it aired on tv…it’s a great show!!! Though the mind games it plays were starting to annoy me after the first few seasons…but it’s still great. 🙂
Olivia says
Hey, the twists and turns are the best part. Lost reinvented modern television!
Mom says
Everyone loved Mama Cass. So sad when she died an early death.
Meg @ Spandex in the City says
Haha a few nibbles from each chocolate….exactly what I do. Gatta know which ones taste the best, and also no one else is going to eat them if you already took a bite out of them. Good Call haha
Olivia says
I envy you being in season three. I loved it so much. So. So. So. Much. PS the finale for the season is the biggest game changer ever. Enjoy!
Michelle M says
Ah, the season 3 finale. One of my favorite episodes! All this Lost talk lately. I’m going to have to rewatch it all.
Jessica says
I was JUST thinking the same thing!
Lauren @ What Lauren Likes says
Love Mama Cass 🙂
Kaila @healthyhelperblog! says
LOVE THE LOST REFERENCE! I miss it so much! Just may have to watch the whole series over again one day!
Monica says
Love the quote at the bottom!
As I new mom I am having the hardest time learning to manage my time. However, recently I discovered that I just have to be honest with myself about my new priorities and not feel guilty for them in the least. It will take lots of practice to adopt this new mindset, but will make me a better Mom, wife and person.
Kristen @ Change of Pace says
Yay for greens! I crave a steak once in awhile. Especially in the summer
Stacy @ Say It With Sprinkles says
Asparagus is amazing! I’m not surprised you’re able to tolerate it, even when you can’t stomach many other veggies, haha =)
Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga says
Those chocolates look stellar…but so does the asparagus. I just polished off lots of stalks myself.
When I was pregnant, saltines were on the calling card, daily. Asparagus? Never! You’re doing great, Kath! And yes, dinnertime/lateday nausea is the worst. And then you go to bed, or try to, with the spins…oh yeah, fun times. Hang in there!
Lizzie says
Haha aww I loved that episode when I heard that song! I love the eery kind of feeling you get from it! I remember watching that episode not realizing that it was LOST when it came on because it is so out of character for the show. I miss that show so much and I think I should start watching it from season 1 again! Have funnnn 😉
Sydney@ Nutrition with Sydney says
Popsicles and BBQ-ing…sounds like summer! 🙂
Cait's Plate says
Gah! So jealous of your weather!!
And hahaha – my chocolate box looks EXACTLY like that! Gotta get a little taste of everything you know?! 😉
Enjoy your Lost-a-Thon!
Sarah @ The Strength of Faith says
I have to say, Kath – I’m impressed with how you’ve managed to keep up with the food blogging through your morning sickness! When does BERF start (I’m sure I’m the millionth person to ask)?
KathEats says
Thanks! It’s been hard, but the show must go on!
You are the millionth person to ask 🙂 The answer is late next week. I’m waiting to get through an ultrasound first to make sure everything looks OK
Liz @ Tip Top Shape says
I’m pretty sure asparagus is the one food that I will never tire of- morning sickness or not!!
Gina @ Running to the Kitchen says
We had filet and asparagus tonight, almost twin meals 🙂 I can’t even remember the last time I cooked steak and man, did it taste good!
Dena @ 40 Fit in the Mitt says
So glad your finding things to eat that agree with you.
beth says
I used to love asparagus but got sick from them during 1st trimester & they no longer sound appealing. Hope my love for them returns after the babe comes.
I haven’t seen that probiotic drink. Is it fermented? I know kombucha is not recommended during pregnancy. Would love to try it.
KathEats says
I’ve heard many say kombucha is OK. Alcohol is even OK in small doses (according to the latest research) so I’m not that worried about fermented drinks. But ask your doctor!
Khushboo says
You nailed it with the veggies yesterday – way to go!
Kelly @ Vegolosophy says
That bread looks so delicious! Thats a great tip to for future moms to try to prevent morning sickness, I wasn’t aware of those tips. Thanks!
J3nn (Jenn's Menu and Lifestyle Blog) says
60 degrees… wooo ! Time to go swimming. 🙂 We use our grill year-round, even when there’s snow outside. I can always tell when I’m low on iron, I crave beef! I’m so hormonal. 🙂
Love the Mamas and the Papas, my mom is a huge fan, so I became one by default, haha.
Kiran @ KiranTarun.com says
LOVE the backyard!!
And what’s up with the weather?! It’s going hay-wired these days — i wish we stocked our freezer with Popsicle. Today was a perfect day for it 🙂
Lexi @ Cura Personalis Foodie says
60 degrees! Crazy, just like here in D.C. 🙂 Winter, where art thou?
Mehr says
I think it’s so cute that you’re watching LOST 🙂 I watched it from day one and followed all seasons religiously. It was a sad day for me when it officially ended. I did watch it all over again a second time, and having the luxury of watching episodes back to back, I couldn’t imagine how I ever waited for episodes every week! (The writer’s strike was the worst time!!)
I’m glad you’re getting to enjoy it now 🙂
Brittnie (A Joy Renewed) says
We had roasted asparagus last night… yum. I have yet to have one moment of nausea this entire pregnancy and for that I feel soooo blessed. To make up for it though my ankles/feet are starting to swell BAD. Hope swelling doesn’t happen to you! Thankfully, I’m not in any pain but it sure makes wearing anything other than flip flops difficult. 🙂
KathEats says
I heard on one of my podcasts yesterday that an increase in salt actually helps with swelling. You might try adding a bit more to your diet.
Brittnie (A Joy Renewed) says
Wow that is interesting. My OB told me a few weeks ago to limit my sodium intake, drink lots more water and elevate legs whenever I can. I’m interested to listen to that podcast!! I’m going to revisit this w/ my Dr at my appt next week. Thanks for your info.
sarah (the SHU box) says
you know i love you but we can never share a box of chocolates 🙂 🙂 ! i am the polar opposite — i am a super-methodical chocolate eater and get 1 per night (josh does too 🙂 ) until they are gone. the eating every 2 hours thing is real — it definitely helps. i’m hoping you are going to start feeling more normal food-wise like i did in just a couple of weeks!
Hannah @ Eat, Drink and Save Money says
We had asparagus last night too! I love it. Glad you can at least eat that veggie.
heidi says
asparagus is naturally high in folic acid. your body is letting you get what you need!
Susan H. @ The Food Allergy Chronicles says
Grilled/roasted veggies brings out the best in all veggies…so tasty! My son just loves roasted cauliflower! Balmy weather is hitting here too! Where is winter?
Hope @ With A Side Of Hope says
I’m jealous that you were grilling! Sadly, it’s not warm enough for that where I live. I’ll just stick with our grill pan. 🙂 Roasted/grilled asparagus is delicious! It tastes so good prepared that way.
Lauren @ Oatmeal after Spinning says
I’m not a Lost watcher, but love me some Mamas and Papas!!
And I am OBSESSED with that particular flavor of Kevita. I’ve tried them all, and the plain ol’ coconut is the best! If it wasn’t so expensive, I’d probably drink one every day!
Sarah@The Flying ONION says
Grilled asparagus is just the best. So yum! 😀
Fran@ Broken Cookies Don't Count says
Always loved Mama Cass. She was a true original and a great talent.
Ashley @ Coffee Cake and Cardio says
Grilled asparagus is the best. I love how sweet asparagus can be.
Sarah says
beautiful chocolates!
Johanna B says
The Mamas and the Papas were all the rage when I was in junior high. Showing my age. I loved Mama Cass.
kelsey says
I watched Lost in college + heard this song + flipped out. I immediately downloaded it and listened to it approximately 9 million times + belted out the lyrics at the top of my lungs. It’s still in my ipod rotation…. and I’m sure I look like a crazy person when it comes on while I’m driving!!
Lisa says
I agree wholeheartedly with your above comment that a little bit of wine or other alcohol during pregnancy is fine.
Let’s put it this way…I had a small (3 oz.) glass several times during pregnancy, and my now-14 year old son just signed his course selection sheet for his sophomore year that includes 3 honors courses and 1 extra credit above and beyond what is required.
You’ll be fine!
For the “greening” of your pregnancy, do you still tolerate avocado? Yummers…and good fat, too.
KathEats says
This study suggests a similar outcome – the women who drank lightly had the same or better behavioral + developmental outcomes:
http://news.discovery.com/human/alcohol-drinking-pregnant-women.html
“But the study found no evidence that light drinking during pregnancy causes emotional or learning problems in children through the age of five. In some tests of vocabulary and pattern creation, boys actually did best if their moms drank a little while carrying them. The findings confirmed what the researchers had found when the kids were three years old.”
Not a reason to drink a bottle of wine at all, but I think we Americans can relax just a little
Nicole says
The song is addictive!! It’s almost impossible to listen to it just once, especially since it reminds me of Lost!
Angel7 says
A popsicle sounds wonderful right about now!
