I very much wanted it to be 85 degrees outside as we departed for the market.
Turns out it was closer to 45. Winter coat was necessary. Imagination used.
But we did our best to pretend it was summer! There were no tomatoes, but there were lots of plants and arts and crafts.
We only picked up some Jam According To Daniel and some paperwork on a FISH CSA that we might join!
Here we are getting back on our bikes to bike home:
I went to Body Pump after the market (1 block away!). It was a new release (#77?) so all new songs. I liked it! Got a great workout, and ended things with 20 minutes of sweating on the stairmaster while reading about myself in Breathe!
My latest nutrition column article: “Getting Cultured On Probiotics”
There’s me!
Breathe is also a really fun magazine to browse through – lots of good content.
Lunchtime! I can’t get enough eggs lately
I had one sunny side up with smoked paprika and parmesan
On top of leftover sweet potato beans + rice from last week plus some lettuce
Carrots + toast on the side
Buttered Cranberry Orange that was SO good as my dessert!! This bread is over 10 days old and was STILL delicious (toasted).
It is sunshining and raining at the same time – I think the Devil must be beating his wife..
Homework time!
Rae says
My mom used to say: “A sun-shiney shower won’t last a half hour!”

Cindy says
Sounds like a great morning!
JenATX says
you inspired me to ‘egg’speriment (haha, cheezy) with eggs the other day on my sandwich. I cooked one over medium, put it between to slices of bread w/ cheese, lettuce, tomato, & cesar dressing & then pressed the sandwich on the panini grill. it was ‘egg’cellent! (ok, ok i’ll stop now)
Nancy~The Wife of a Dairyman says

How cool to read your own article! I can never read while working out, I’ve tried..but I find it difficult. You mentioning the fish CSA has me looking up if we have anything similar. I doubt it. But thats a cool idea!
Mom says
Love the title of your new article!
M says
Ha! My childhood best friend and I used to run to the telephone pole and put our ear up against it and swear we could hear “the devil beating his wife!” when we had a sun shower! I think it must be a southern thing?! Cute.
Courtney @ The Granola Chronicles says
I think I’m going to have to try adding paprika & parmesan to my eggs – sounds great!
Courtney says
MMMmmm. Lunch looks yummy! Congrats on the article! 10,000 views a day…dang girl! 🙂
KathEats says
I’m actually up closer to 15,000 these days!!
M says
Do bloggers count each different hit, or does 15,000 include those of us that visit
3 times or more a day?
Either way, lots of hits! 😉
KathEats says
KERF gets 13,000-15,000 unique visitors a day and 35,000 – 50,000 hits per day! (So an average of 2.5-3+ visits per day)
M says
Really interesting stats, thanks for sharing!
B & B says
Wow. Do you feel pressure to keep that up Kath? Or what happens if you don’t…(not that that would happen!) – but y’know.
lindsey says

Those carrots looking amazingly vibrant!
Probiotics do wonders for the body, especially someone who has candida. Even if you do not have candida, it can help your digestive tract and other stuff that are essential to function.

I love farmers markets! I’m so lucky because mine is actually less expensive than the grocery store! Though I was devastated when I realized that I missed it this week! The horror! I can’t wait to hear details about the fish CSA – I’ve never hear of one, but I LOVE fresh fish, so that sounds like such a cool opportunity!
caitlin says

It must be so cool to read your own work in a magazine!!
Michelle says
Have you tried slicing and the freezing your Great Harvest breads? I wonder if that’s too much exposure to the cold and if it will affect the taste of the bread when thawed. I’ve been following the opening of the GH in Kirkwood, MO. Since I won’t likely be able to get there every week, I wondered about freezing the bread and then using it for toast and toasted/grilled sandwiches. Just wondering if you’ve tried it!
KathEats says
We have frozen whole loaves no problem – they come back out just fine. I haven’t ever froze a sliced loaf though. I imagine all the in and out of the freezer to get a slice might be too much for it. But what you could do is cut the loaf in half (or thirds) and free those big hunks and take those as each week as you need them?
Tracy says
That’s what I do…works great. Like a new loaf every time I pull out a hunk!
Michelle says
Thanks Kath. My only problem with freezing it unsliced is that I’m a horrible bread slicer! 🙂
I think you are right, though…the in/out opening of the bag might be a bit too much. I’m looking forward to the store opening in Kirkwood. It’s not too far from work…I bet I’ll be visiting them more than I think!
B & B says
Actually it’s easier to cut frozen! You just need to have a good knife. It slices straight down 🙂
Angie @ Musings of a Violet Monkey says
Michelle – I’ve frozen sliced “toaster sized” loaves (whole loaves, as well as half of a loaf) and taken them back out – and they are just fine. I haven’t taken out slices off of a frozen loaf – that might be too much. But freezing the sliced loaves works beautifully! I keep them in the GH bag and then wrap gently in aluminum foil before putting in the freezer.

Mary @ Bites and Bliss says
I know you’ve been featured in a few magazines..but that still must be totally awesome to be in there!! It’d feel a little surreal.
Lea @ Healthy Coconut says
My farmers market has mangoes and tomatoes already, I’m very happy with that. I can’t get enought mangoes these days. I have added them to my quinoa salad.
Hope the spring produce is coming your way soon.

I tried a fried egg on top of my salad for the first time today.. I was kind of freaked out by it but ended up loving it!
It’s a little warmer in Raleigh today but so windy that I don’t think being outside would be very enjoyable. I’m about to take the dog for a walk and find out.

Congrats on having your article published! I will check out Breathe for sure. You are an inspiration; after reading your post, I did a Google search to find out if my new city has a Farmer’s Market. It not only has one, but some local organic farmers are having a FREE organic gardening 101 class tomorrow!! I am totally going.

I wish I could read your article!
Julie says
Any thoughts on over the counter probiotics, such as Align? I am curious. Just clicked over to Breathe and read the article.
KathEats says
I’m not trained to prescribe – only recommend real food. I’d ask your doctor about probiotics in pill form.
