We’re here celebrating Meredith’s single lady status before she marries Scott in October!
After a few hours of chatting on the balcony, the other girls arrived and Meredith and I headed to the pool while they got ready before dinner.
The other four all went to vet school together (Meredith and I were roommates at Davidson) so it’s been fun to hear tidbits about their jobs. And hilarious whenever we see an animal (like the piggie in Magic Mike!)
I was in charge of choosing the restaurants for the weekend and EAT American Bistro came highly recommended by my VA Beach readers. It seemed to have a funky fun vibe and the menu looked incredible!
In celebration of girls’ night out, I ordered a virgin martini – I think this was lemon, lime, pineapple and soda. I’ve really had fun with all the virgin drinks out there! I prefer them on the tart side, so a citrus base is preferred to a really fruity one.
I had only had my peach and some popcorn for a snack, so I dove into this [IKEA!] bread basket
I ordered an entrée special – the Crab Duo – a softshell crab topped with a blue crab cake with succotash, cucumber salad and a brussels sprout slaw. It was DIVINE – so many creative flavors!!!! And I just love crab.
Our flashy group photo : )
I have the pleasure of being the designated driver this weekend, which I am happy to do. It’s kind of a privilege!
Our next stop was indeed Magic Mike – seen at this cool nice theater called Beach Movie Bistro that served food and drinks!
I sipped on a refreshing water while the girls got 22 ounces of Fat Tire : )
The movie was…not very good. Fun to see at a bachelorette party, but I’m glad I didn’t see this at home. I didn’t like the characters very much (or the drugs women should never take drinks or drugs from strangers!), and the plot was just OK. Barely OK. 50 Shades was 10x better if that’s saying anything : )
When we got back to the room near midnight, Meredith was excited to find a honeymoon’s worth of lingerie waiting for her!!
Lauren and Anna insisted I sleep in one of the beds while they shared the fold out sofa. Very unnecessary of them but very kind. The baby and I were thankful because we rolled over about 100 times together last night. He woke me up with some nice rolls at 7:30, so I’m blogging from the balcony with a beach view!
Now: girl seeks breakfast.

I thought the story line in Magic Mike was horrendous too, but I wasn’t complaining about the views! Looks like you girls had a fun time!
KathEats says
I didn’t think the men were that hot!!
chelsey @ clean eating chelsey says
Let me follow that up with this: I love looking at Channing Tatum from the neck down. I don’t think his face is quite as beautiful as his body!
KathEats says
Hahahah. Agreed.
Jessica says
I, too, went and saw the movie with a bunch of girlfriends. While I agree it wasn’t cinematic genius, I was pleasantly surprised that Joe Manganiello, who plays Alcide on True Blood, was in the movie. RAWR!
Katie D. says
I liked the dancing but really, Channing Tatum is only good looking from the neck down! I did like the one guy that was on Numbers or Cold Case or some show like that. I think I was more fascinated and in awe of the muslces and dance skill exhibited than anything.
Ann says
OMG you gals are nutso! I think Channing has the cutest smile ever! Have any of you seen The Vow? Eee! haha Love all the Channing talk
Erica { EricaDHouse.com } says
I LOVE the string of lingerie! Your virgin drink looks delicious and it is wonderful that your friends have you to help keep them safe 😉
Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat says
Sounds like a very fun evening! And regarding Chelsey’s comment above, I’ve yet to see Magic Mike but still want to – not because I think the plot sounds good (nor do I even know what it is!) but Matthew McConaughey… well, enough said right there!
Jennifer says
Nobody goes to see Magic Mike for the plot, lol! If you go in expecting a meh plot and not-so-great acting with a side of deliciously hot men, you’ll love it to pieces!
Wendy says
Agreed 100%! It was a fun movie for a girls night out. We all thought it needed a lot more dancing and a lot less talking. 🙂
KathEats says
Haha agreed!
Lee says
I like your friend’s black/pink tie-dyed dress. Do you know where she got it?
Laura @ Sprint 2 the Table says
How appropriate to go see Magic Mike. LOL! We have a dinner theater here too – aren’t they cool? The will will come to your table/seat all night. Love the concept.
Sarah @ Fresh Living says
That crab looks amazing! What a delicious looking meal. Glad to see a girls night in action!
kristen @ verbs and vignettes says
looks like a fun night! glad you are partaking and not feeling left out, with the virgin martini. :p i’ve heard of a few people going to see magic mike. he’s not so bad to look at. but with your “10x worse than 50 shades,” i’ve definitely changed my mind! haha.
Katie @ Talk Less, Say More says
Looks like a super fun night! I went to my first bachelorette party a couple months ago and had such a good time. 🙂
Liz @ Virginia Bloggers says
Kath you are so cute!!! 🙂
Chelsea @ Chelsea's Lovelys says
I love the idea of the string of lingerie! What a good idea 🙂
And I am glad that I haven’t seen Magic Mike yet, I don’t think I will now.
Peanutbutterlover says
I went to see Magic Mike the day after it came out. Fortunately it was sold out. lol. So instead we watched People Like Us. So good! I think I’ll just wait for Magic Mike to come to the dollar theater. Doesn’t sound like it’s worth the 8 or 9 dollars!!!
Amanda @ flecksofgreen says
What a good time it looks like you had! And I can’t help but point out how much I admired the butter in the basket of bread. It looks like soft serve ice cream! lol
Mom says
Hi Merideth! So exciting. Ya’ll have fun!
Missy says
I haven’t seen Magic Mike OR read 50 Shades…see, I want to see Magic Mike (I heard it had a dark storyline behind it, which is why I want to see it. I agree w/ you Kath, the men in the movie do nothing for me).
I love that top you’re wearing – too cute!
Ash Bear says
I’m so proud of you going to the bachelorette party and not letting that bump get in the way. 🙂 You all look adorable and I love the lingerie string idea!
Molly @ RDexposed says
I love your dress!
I also need to find a theater near by that serves beer!
Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin says
What a fun evening with the girls! I don’t really want to see Magic Mike either… to be honest I don’t find any of the cast that attractive! But if Ryan Gosling had been in it, I would have been there on opening night, bad plot or not! 😉
Ryann says
I LOVE the string of lingerie — so cute! Looks like a lovely bachelorette party 🙂 Also love your maternity top that you wore for the party!!!
P.S. What a group of accomplished ladies – I am impressed!
Emily says
If you’re still in Virginia Beach you should definitely go to Citrus for breakfast. It’s so so so good!
Tracy says
Hi Kath, this is totally off your current post, but a while back (maybe a year or so) you wore a sundress with a nautical print. It was so cute and I saw a girl wearing one at the farmers’ market today reminding me of yours. Do you remember the name of the company that makes them? I believe you had a discount code for readers at the time as well. If you remember, will you please let me know. If not, NBD. Thanks! Have a fun trip.

I’m glad you guys liked EAT! That’s my favorite in VA beach…..and the crab always rocks! We had a fun night to in Cville. Your town is great. Have fun!
Lauren @ Oatmeal after Spinning says
This post and all of the comments made me laugh so much! I saw Magic Mike last weekend- and it was horrible!! Channing Tatum does nothing for me (well, like Chelsey said- only below the neck), but Matthew McConaughey sure does! And the guy from True Blood (but they didn’t show nearly enough of him). The writing and plot were horrible, but my favorite part was the reaction of the crowd. It was a fun, rowdy group when I went (on a Sunday afternoon!!)- and the ladies (and a few men) were hilarious!
Have fun tonight!
Katie @ Peace Love & Oats says
I tried softshell crab for the first time this week at a Chobani blogger dinner and it was amazing! Haha and I still haven’t seen Magic Mike, or read 50 Shades of Grey!

Looks like fun!

That meal looks great. So do you! Your outfit was totally cute for a girls night out.
robin says
The nighties were a cute touch!
Anna @ On Anna's Plate says
I have that same maternity tunic! Never could figure out what to wear it over, though– I always tried leggings, but it never quite looked right on me. It’s cute with the denim skirt!
Erin @ erinberries says
The plot of Magic Mike wasn’t very good, but that wasn’t the point anyways! It was about seeing lots of abs and butts! 🙂 You have to admit that was nice!
Angel7 says
Since you are such the foodie, I would have you pick the restaurants as well 🙂
