My day is going by fast! Love that!!
I have a love | hate relationship with offices.
Sometimes I love having computer access, wearing nice clothes, listening to the radio, having a space to put all my stuff, and Word processing (today I designed a flyer in Publisher and am researching okra for an article).
But other times I haaaate office environments. They are so sterile and boring! And I find that times flies when I work with my hands instead of at a desk. I also like being out in the world and interacting with people in the sunshine (if we ever get sunshine again!)
Today is a good day though 🙂
Breakfast was so filling that it held me over no problemo all morning long. I could have gone longer till lunch, but I was too excited to eat 😉
I took these photos as I packed my lunch last night. Wish it hadn’t been dark already!
In the lunchbox:
A slice of Great Harvest Flax Oat Bran with a Laughing Cow to be spread on-site
Oikos + granoler
A small spinach salad with almonds and a baby jar of balsamic vinegar to add on-site (gotta get in the veg!)
And a furry kiwi. Yes I eat the skin. Yes it’s good! It will not bite! [I do not, however, eat the nubs on the end!]
Little silverware for little bites
Happy Lunching!
Kalli@Fitandfortysomething says
looks like a great lunch. like how you take photos before you leave the house. that is smart!
Hannah says
I eat the skin too! (And the nubs. And I eat apples, cores and all. But not banana skins :P) I also love how all parts of your lunch are interactive/make-at-the-time in some way!
Rachel says
Yay! Someone else who eats apples core and all 🙂
Allie (Live Laugh Eat) says
I can’t stand offices. My last internship was the straw that broke the camel’s back. Desk work is not for me. I need a physical job!! Hence my interest in pursuing baking 🙂
Jessica @ How Sweet says
I have the same love/hate relationship with offices. Love being on the computer, but hate sitting there for so long bored.
Andrea says
I know what you mean about offices. I begin to feel trapped.
And I’m sure you’ve been asked before but where did you get the small silverware? C&B? They’re perfect!
Freya @ foodfitnessandfreya.wordpress.com says
Hooray for eating kiwi skin! I only discovered you could about 2 weeks ago – now I don’t know where skin has been all my life lol 😛
I totally couldn’t work in an office, I’d go stir crazy :s I need to MOVE!
Have a good lunch!
Heather (Heather's Dish) says
what a fun lunch! i got some more laughing cow last night….can’t WAIT to eat it today! glad you’re having a good-office day 😉
Morgan @ Life After Bagels says
that’s why I love my job . . . half my day is spent in my office, the other out on the sales floor . . . except on Mondays when I usually am in the office all day, which sucks, and usually gives me headaches
Estela @ Weekly bite says
I’m not a fan of offices… like computers.. not the office.
Next time I have a kiwi i’m gonna try to eat it whole 🙂
retrokali says
I know what you mean about offices. Ocassionally it is fun to play dress up/feel important, etc.but mostly I start to go nuts after a few hours. I used to think something was wrong with me because all of my friends and classmates wanted to do something stationary, while I ended up waiting tables. Give me tables over paperwork anyday!
I tried the 0% fat Greek yogurt thinking I’d hate it, but hey, it is pretty good!
Lily @ Lily's Health Pad says
I eat the skin of the kiwi too. Mostly because I’m too lazy to peel it off! But really, it tastes absolutely fine. No nubs for me either. 😉
Kati @ Living Well says
Looks like a balanced lunch! I never do get a hankerin for kiwis… Today I had a Morningstar pizza burger mixed in with a frozen steamable mix of veggies and red potatoes. DELISH!!
Lauren @ Eater not a runner says
Unfortunately I HATE offices and yet work in one….hopefully that will change some day!
rustique says
I’d never thought of a mini jam jar for salad dressing–a small dressing container for portable salads is my eternal dilema. Stealing this idea!
Liz says
I eat my kiwi with the skin on too and I love almonds in my salad. Always a nice touch!

Jessica @ The Process of Healing says
Your lunch sounds delicious!! Love love laughing cow. And I eat the furry skin too.. it’s good!!
Lindsay (Waking Up Hungry) says
Love the lunch, looks delish! I have been on a kiwi kick lately myself. I brought one with me today to eat later, but have already had half because I couldn’t stand it any longer!
Lauren says
I used to always eat kiwi skin when I was a little girl, but somewhere along the way it started to gross me out. I might have to try again cause I always feel like such a wastrel peeling and throwing away good kiwi bits!
Jules @ eatdrinklivelearn says
I’m reading your post at my sterile desk, wearing nice clothes, totally nodding in agreement! And totally thinking that I need to start packing more balanced lunches like you. 🙂
Ameena says
I love those Laughing Cow cheeses, they just taste great with everything. Yummy looking lunch!
Heather (The Single Dish) says
Working in an office is my life! Sometimes I can’ t wait to break out but other times I like just sitting here in my own space with my own computer. Anyway, good lunch!
oatmeal says
Heh I still can’t bring myself to eat the skin of the kiwi :p
And I agree about offices–I hate sitting at desks and chairs. Having a job that lets you wander around makes your day go much quicker!
Heather @ Health, Happiness, and Hope says
Looks like the perfect lunch. Hope the afternoon in the office goes well!
katherine says
I love your small flatware – where did you find it?
nicole says
I think I’m allergic to kiwi skin, but I can eat the insides no problem, weird.
I work in an office all day, it’s gets old very quickly, much rather be working somewhere outside where the sun is shinning.
Food Makes Fun Fuel says
Mmm delicious lunch. Individual cheese portions is great for on the go!
shannon (the daily balance) says
being confined to an office certainly can grate on one’s nerves (and spirit!) — I try and walk around, talk to others and take a walk outside when I feel stiffled!
Christie @ Honoring Health says
Glad you are having a good day!
Lunch looks great!
Jenn @ Livewellfit says
I worked in an office for over 5 years. Now that I have left the office job and am building my own business right out of my home- I LOVE IT! I am able to surround myself with as many good people as I can from all over. It’s taken some getting used to but it’s been awesome.
Gabriela says
I always think about offices in a good way – I never gave much thought about it, to be honest.
But I don´t believe they´re actually so boring – seems like you´re having a great day so far 😉
Happy Lunching!
😉
And have a great Tuesday!
Brazilian XOXO´s,
Gabriela
Anne says
I love working in a office! we have the best team of people working there (I work with a company who has many restaurants) who all love eating, talking about food, cooking, baking and trying out new restaurants, it’s so much fun to work with likeminded people 🙂
Leena says
looks like a great lunch! i love laughing cow cheese!!! i’ve never tried a kiwi with the skin on… i’ve always been kinda freaked out by its “furriness”! someday ill have to give it a try though!
deisegirl says
Ha, I eat kiwi skin too, I lose so much juicy kiwi flesh if I cut it off! Sometimes I eat the nubs if I’m just too far from a bin and I’m being really lazy but that’s Top Class Laziness and I don’t do it too often 😉
Working at a desk can be pretty zzz but it’s all I’ve ever known so am kind of used to it. I liked it a lot more when our internet access was less restricted…katheats is an “access denied” site in my workplace when they restricted some sites…I’m not quite sure what was going on there but it’s actually quite random what they’ve banned and what they’ve let us keep. Oh well, internet in work is a “privilege not a right” bla bla 😉
Jessie says
I understand the office thing. There are no windows in my part of the office and I miss it! I feel so disconnected despite all of the constant contact involved with email.
Anne P says
I’m the same way about offices… except I lean more towards the hate side, directly related to how much time I spend in them 😉
Are you allowed to blog at work?? Lucky!
Simply Life says
Looks like a great lunch! I love bringing a lot of smaller things so I can eat every couple hours!
Cynthia (It All Changes) says
I love Laughing cow on bread. So creamy and yummy.
Ally (Exercise and Pies) says
Cute lunch! Looks like my lunches in high school… and i’m not looking forward to the day where I have to work in an office 🙁
Kristilyn (My 29th Year) says
I love eating the skin on kiwis! I just started after seeing it on your blog and over at Jennas … it was always such a pain to peel a kiwi, so I thought I’d give it a try and it’s really not that bad!

Dee says
Hi Kath! I’ve decided to come out of lurking on your blog to say hey and that your foods always look so delicioso! 🙂
Good luck with your move and the opening of your bakery!
ps. i purchased some of your recommendations from OpenSky and am so pleased! I really thought everything I bought was lovely. Thank you for sharing! 🙂
Kath says
Awesome! Thanks for sharing
Daniel says
Wow, I wanted to ask someone who knows a lot about nutrition and health what they though of laughing cow cheese and this couldn’t be a better time to ask!
So… what do you think of them health wise, as opposed to a normal cheese? I don’t think they’re really all that processed but I could be wrong. They’re convenient for the dorm but I stopped getting them after I wasn’t sure if it was closer to real cheese or velveeta. They don’t taste too bad though! I hope your lunch was great, it looks like it would be~
Kath says
Eh. They’re not the world’s best food, but I don’t have a problem with the ingredient.
Emily Eats and Exercises says
As a musician I’ve never really spent time in an office. I can’t say I’m sad about that though. I love my non-office job!
Kristen says
Question – I am looking for alternative ways to add protein to my lunch besides animal protein. I’ve had lentil soup, etc. but are there any natural ingredient bean burgers that would be good for lunch?
Any recommendations are helpful!
Kath says
Try Sunshine burgers – they have a good ingredient list. Or you could make your own! I’ve got a bean burger recipe that keeps OK, and Oh She Glows has some good “In A Jiffy” burgers that she makes 8 at a time.
Cheryl says
Where did you get your small silverware? The only silverware I can find these days is ginormous!!
Tara says
I want to try and eat the skin but I’m nervous. I need not be I suppose. I need to get better at adding more veggies to my lunch.
jenny says
I am too nervous to eat the skin… thinking it’d feel like I was eating a muppet or something. Any suggestions for taking the leap? And yes, please tell us where you got that adorable silverware!!!
Kath says
JUST TAKE A BITE
Stacy says
Today I had the volume turned on and noticed there was a Mc Donalds commercial playing when I opened your page?!?!?! I was so confused, I didn’t have any other windows open.
Is this a new advertisement Kath?? Or is my computer Wacko
Kath says
Sorry – that was last night’s puzzle!
Lisa @bakebikeblog says
Great looking lunch – I love the variety!
I have an office job and I HATE being stuck inside all day *sigh*
judy says
lunch with your mom on thursday! we promise to eat healthy….at bandidos?? 🙂 btw…..have you heard that one of the favorite beverages of olympic athletes is now coconut milk? what do you think? i am thrilled, as now there are several new brands out. i love cocounut milk and have been spoiled drinking fresh from the coconut growing up in brasil. it is very nutritious and delicious! Let me know if you have tried it.
Kath says
I’ll hear the report on what you chose!!
Do you mean coconut water? I haven’t gotten to try it yet, but I hear it’s super nutritious too! I would like to try some out.
judy says
your mom and i had a lovely lunch, as always. i had my usual L13 (cheese quesadilla and rice and beans) and your mom had the shrimp special. nutritious enough but the best part is always the talking!
it is coconut “milk” but really seems and looks like water. kind of bland, but if nutritious then better than water! the brand i just tried is “vita coco”.
Julia (Taste of Living) says
Love the bread and I think it’s such a good company: Great Harvest. Everytime when I’m in the US, I miss the real good, fresh bread and I see it on your blog so often! Love the fact that you, your blog and the company (and soon your bakery) are gonna spread the bread love!
xxx Julia (Taste of Living)
Anna @ Newlywed, Newly Veg says
I agree with you on the office setting thing. Sometimes I love spending time in my office– it just makes me feel more productive! But…it’s nice to work from home in my sweats too 🙂
Nutritious Foodie says
The key to eating healthy at work is packing the night before. I eat the kiwi with the skin on it too.. the skin is really good for the gums.
Jessie says
I think I would draw the line at nubs, too. Yeep!
Just got back from WIC and it was fantastic! Office work, yes, but you get to meet all kinds of people (some interested in what you have to say, and some definitely NOT). 🙂
Dan says
Awesome pics. I had the same love|hate relationship with my office life, although it tended to side with the |hate side a little more. I finally packed it in to be a little more hands on with our own company – the only thing I am missing these days is the gossip – NOT! 🙂
Alison says
Yummy lunch! I need to concoct little groupings like that. I tend to just bring leftover soups, chili’s, marinara sauce on bulgur, etc leftovers.
I totally agree with office life. I returned to work as a part time contractor and am doing boring office work. For several months I loved it but then it started becoming a drag. The only thing that keeps me going some days is the coffee, tea and breakfast (which I pack) and lunch. Today I got to spend many hours on my feet doing manual labor in a refrigerated room and it was awesome ROFL! My co-workers thought I was nutz.
Becky says
I have a similar feeling towards offices. I worked in a cubicle through college and complained about the boring, sterile environment. Now I teach kindergarten and LOVE being on the go with the kiddos, but some days I’d give my right arm to just get up and pee or drink a coffee whenever I felt like it!
jaclyn@todays lady says
I agree with the love/hate relationships with offices. Dressing up is good, sitting at a desk all day is not so good. At least your day is flying by! When I worked in an office environment some days would seem so long because I was tied to my desk all day. You are so lucky though, your job is so interesting and your passion so everyday must be at least somewhat exciting for you!
p.s. cute salad dressing container!
Amy says
Totally need to try a kiwi with the skin on, it’s always so messy when you try to remove it and I didn’t realize you could eat it! Laughing cow is one of my favorite cheese spreads only problem is I eat it way to quickly, so I don’t buy it that often 🙂
Allison K says
I deplore working in an office. Even though I do, it’s not so bad….as a recreation coordinator I am out and about all day, and when I am at my desk…..i’m working on coordinating other people’s play.
Monica @ Musings of the Granola Girl says
What a cute lunch!
I love kiwis 🙂
lynn (The Actors Diet) says
i’m not big on offices either. though i do miss stability!
Kath says
SMALL FLATWARE: from Crate + Barrel and World Market. I get ALL of my stuff at those type of stores!!
Leslie @ Chomp! says
lunch looks yummy!
i totally get you with the office love/hate relationship. For years I worked at a living history museum in the summer, where i worked interpreting to visitors and essentially playing house in a historic costume. Outside a lot and really enjoyed it. I even did a supervisor position there where I walked around outside all day and talked to the staff. Some days it was draining and i would hide in my terrible office without a window… that being said, having never had a truly 100% office job, i don’t know if i could do it!!
Cara says
I sometimes have a love hate with working in an office too. But i haven’t figured out what would be more entertaining for me, that is not my current job. Someday I hope. 🙂
Rachel says
I love Laughing Cow cheese especially with bread or crackers! You pack such great lunches. I always get stuck in a rut with the same old boring sandwich.
I would never be able to work in an office job. I need to be up and doing things and working with people hands-on. Good thing I am finishing a degree in teaching!
Jenn (www. j3nn.net ) says
You just reminded me to pick up some more Laughing Cow. They pack so much flavor for so few calories. LOVE!
