Now I know the real reason women don’t fly late in pregnancy … there isn’t much more space for the baby to go!
My flight was long, cramped, but OK. Just a little late. I spent the time reading the first half of this book, which I thoroughly enjoyed because the ideology is based in evolution, which is how I think.
I feel like I’ve been eating all day but haven’t felt full yet! My flight was a little delayed and I didn’t want to leave the gate, but I was freezing and hungry so I got some blueberry banana oatmeal from the McD’s across the aisle. It warmed me right up and helped tide me to lunch (second lunch?) but I did not like how sweet it was. I was expecting plain oats with blueberries and banana but instead this was sugary instant oatmeal. Too sweet. For real.
I also only got about 5 blueberries!
An hour later I was starving again for lunch and did my best to wait until take off to dive into this salad. I was thrilled to find a chef’s salad without deli meat or onions at Cibo. Disappointed in my egg serving, but it tasted AMAZING! I also hadn’t had ranch dressing in ages, and it was quite good! Hunger is the best sauce!
Had Food Should Taste Goods on the side!
Airport shuttle –> cheap and convenient
Starving again, I unpacked a Larabar Uber from my bag for the transport. I no longer accept products for formal review, but some companies somehow find my address and still send things anyways. So as far as my opinion goes, I like original Larabars much better. The texture on this was chunky nuts and things glued together with brown rice syrup – it blended in with 100 other bars out there. But I love Larabar origs!!
Hotel heaven!
Camera survived being checked!! Whew!
These are perhaps the best smelling hotel products I have ever smelled!!
I’m ready for my East Coast Dinner – something filling this time!
Rebecca @ Blueberry Smiles says
Traveling always makes me hungrier too! Glad you got there ok- enjoy Seattle!
Katie @ Peace Love & Oats says
I don’t know if I’ve ever gotten a hotel room all to myself, it sounds like fun! Glad you had safe and easy trip!
Alana says
Hope you get a chance to go to Portage Bay Cafe while you are there!
KathEats says
Don’t think it’s close enough 🙁 Maybe SUnday?
laura says
yesss definitely go to portage bay, their toppings bar is incredible!
KathEats says
Toppings for what!?
laura says
for their french toast, pancakes, oatmeal, etc. it includes fresh berries, fresh whipped cream, nuts, maple syrup, etc. emily did a blog post on it: http://www.dailygarnish.com/2011/04/from-dusk-til-dawn.html
the challah bread french toast is really, really good. omelets and scrambles are great as well!
KathEats says
Oh delicious!!
Alana says
Pancakes, waffles, french toast 🙂 It’s a great place!
Michael Tavallaei says
glad the camera survived.
Michelle (Better with Berries) says
Love when hotels have nice toiletry products waiting for me – especially when I forget mine!

Harvey Karp. Literally the baby whisperer. My first was colicky and we spent about 2 weeks walking the hallways and bouncing and driving in the car and pacing and crying (me and daddy too!) before someone suggested Happiest Baby on the Block. LIFECHANGING. No joke. And yes, when it’s 2am and you manage to get your baby to calm down and sleep after screaming forever, that is seriously life changing. So you’ve read the book and that is fantastic! BUT I highly suggest you seek out the video from your library (or a generous shower attendee) to watch while in the throes of baby crying. Seeing him actually DO the swaddle is different than reading it. Though, I remember seeing a swaddle practice you posted that Matt did on one of the bears and I think he’s got it! My hubby was the master swaddler in our house. Anyway, That 5 S’s technique came in handy a million times throughout three children. Good read! As a side note- I was not as impressed with Happiest Toddler on the Block.
KathEats says
I have the dvd at home!
Diane says
I agree, the dvd is much more helpful. I don’t think I would have been shaking vigorously enjoy of shhing loud enough without it. This worked for both of my babies too! We used the miracle blanket for our kids once they got too strong for a swaddling blanket, and my parents thought we were torturing our kids in a straight jacket. Funny how different generations do different things.
Blaire says
The DVD is amazing!! The ‘special features’ section that has the in utero sounds was a lifesaver! 3 am, about to lose my mind, put on full blast, two minutes later, baby sound asleep!:o)
kay says
A book about crying babies in which “the ideaology is based in evolution” which is how you think…can you explain???
KathEats says
I rationalize lots of things based on natural selection. He talks a lot about that in this book.
Dimple Snatcher says
For example, please?
KathEats says
It’s all about the 4th trimester and how human heads had to be evicted early – before the babies were ready. You just need to read it!
Stephanie @ Joy in The Journey says
I adore the feeling when you’re really really hungry and you eat something (like salad with ranch dressing), and it tastes 10x better. Nothin’ like it! I thought Rose 31 was a “higher” end hair line, surprised to see it in a hotel assortment.
Andrea says
O’Hare allows you to take in food? (At least, I’m assuming you took the chips and Uber bar), last time I was there no food was allowed in from outside the airport.
KathEats says
I have never heard of an airport not letting you take food in?!
Andrea says
Well I am super glad they do now! Will be good for next time 🙂
tempesst says
my hometown airport (nola) doesn’t let you take food!
KathEats says
That is so weird. I could understand something liquidy, but not a solid.
Natasha says
Strange I live in Nola and just flew out last week with outside food, do it all the time.
Molly @ RDexposed says
I always take huge bags of food into O’Hare. I also get away with liquids in my carry on, too. 😉
Susan says
Oh, I love The Happiest Baby … the 5 S’s really helped us with our first (fussy) baby. I was (am) leary of the swing sleeping though. Babies tend to get flat heads from sleeping in car seats/swings etc. too often.
Anyway, great book and DVD!
What do YOU think of the book?
KathEats says
Loving the book so far
Alice says
I’m confused. East coast dinner? Did you bring your dinner with you to Seattle?
KathEats says
Just mean my normal dinnertime – it was 4pm here, 7pm there
Erin Motz says
Rose smelling hotel products?!? Amazing! I want some!
Ashley says
Love your nail polish color! Glad you arrived safely!
Susan H. @ The Food Allergy Chronicles says
After all your ‘cramped’ photo shots the hotel shot looks so inviting…nice and spacious room! I love the smell of roses! Enjoy your dinner!
Jaime says
Love the Fairmont in Seattle! If you get a chance, Purple Wine Bar across the street is amazing! Not just for the wine (obviously you can’t have that!), but they have really good small plates and it’s a fun atmosphere.
KathEats says
Going there tomorrow for an event!
Julia H. @ Going Gulia says
Can always count on McD’s to take some healthy like oatmeal & fill it with sugar! That’s a bummer. Better than nothing, though! Glad to see your camera survived, also…I get so nervous checking luggage — I always feel like my bag will get lost/broken/etc. Carry-on all the way!
Jen says
I think it’s a given that McD’s oatmeal is not going to be “natural” 🙂
I wanted to ask what your thoughts are on the Attachment parenting that has made headlines the past few weeks? i.e. women, celebrities breastfeeding kids as old as 5 or 7 years old and letting them sleep in their beds until the kids decides to say no.
KathEats says
I don’t think that’s something I would do, but I don’t have a problem with it.
Lisa (bakebikeblog) says
ahh yes – travelling when pregnant was never my favourite part!! Glad to hear you made it safely 🙂
Samantha says
Bummer that you aren’t into the uber Larabars. I picked up some of the banana ones while I was in the States and LOVED them.
Nikki says
Just out of curiosity, why don’t you accept products to review anymore? And how do companies find your address anyhow–that would creep me out!
KathEats says
I just decided I was ready to move on to other focuses. I will occasionally review something local or OpenSky related, but I’ve just stopped accepting things for the sake of trying it alone. They had my address already on the books from before
Kerry says
Welcome to Seattle! Just started following your blog earlier this year and have been so envious of your great warm weather posts back east- especially how far along your garden is compared to mine! Hopefully our soggy, cold “Juneuary” weather here in the emerald city doesn’t scare you off this weekend. Enjoy the coffee, great restaurants and exploring pike place between Blogher events- and bring Matt back some good microbrews- nothing like a hoppy IPA from the PNW as a souvenir :). Have fun!
KathEats says
It’s a beautiful city so far, but I am not liking this weather one bit!! Juneuary is right 🙂
Khushboo says
Travelling plays havoc with my appetite-it goes outta control!
Reb - Life Doesn't Have to Suck Blog says
I love those shampoos too – only at Fairmont!
Averie @ Averie Cooks says
glad your camera survived! I was seriously thinking about it!!
“chunky nuts and things glued together with brown rice syrup” — say no more. I like their orig bars and this told me to just stick with what I know and like 🙂
And a salad sans onions..yay. I am not an onion fan either!
mamawass says
I just finished Happiest Baby on the Block!! I thought it was fantastic and made me feel a bit more prepared for baby’s arrival. I’m due just one week after you! I’ve also read Ina May’s breastfeeding book, found it at a second hand sale for a few GBP (I currently live in London). Can’t wait to get her book on Childbirth, need to read soon 🙂
It’s been great following your blog since we are so close in our due dates. My blog is more just for me as a diary and for my family and friends who all live in the states.
KathEats says
Would you recommend her BF book? Exciting times!
mamawass says
definitely
Fran@ Broken Cookies Don't Count says
Travel can be tough…can’t imagine doing it pregnant!
Jo Williams says
WOW, you are VERY brave to check your camera – I would never if I want to see it again! Glad it wasn’t stolen!
KathEats says
She made me at the gate!
Angel7 says
I am all about awesome-ly scented products, and have found that some hotels have the best smelling body washes, shampoos, conditioners, and lotions!

Enjoy Seattle! Sorry the weather hasnt been very nice. Today looks like it might be okay!
Nicole says
I got certified to teach The Happiest Baby on the Block techniques because I have found it SO helpful in my postpartum doula and newborn coaching business! I also had the pleasure of meeting Dr Karp last year and hearing him speak…he is such a dynamic person 🙂 (BTW–I highly suggest getting the DVD also. Most parents watch it numerous times once the baby gets here in order to master the techniques!). I have a few extra DVD’s at my house–email me at [email protected] and I can get one to you. Consider a shower gift 😉
Oh and I couldn’t believe the crap McDonald’s managed to shove into good ‘ol oatmeal when I read the ingredients! They seem to be able to “crapify” just about any food LOL
KathEats says
I have the DVD!
Nicole says
Oh ok–then you’re all set! One last recommendation that my couples have found helpful for the swaddling…instead of having to deal with the DUDU of a receiving blanket (especially in the middle of the night!), check out the Woombie! www.woombie.com
KathEats says
I registered for some cool swaddle blankets that velcro- I’ll check this one out!
Colleen says
Be careful of the baby’s hips when swaddling so tightly. Best of luck w/ the Karp techniques 🙂
Molly says
I LOVE le labo products (they have great, natural baby scents!), I can’t believe they’re in a hotel!
Lexi @ You, Me, & A World to See says
Glad the camera (and the baby! or are they both babies?? hahaha) both arrived safely 🙂
Liz says
That book saved me!!!! Highly recommend. We even bought the cd and would play the rain sound very loudly. It worked.
Brittany says
Were you staying at the Fairmont? I recognize the line of shampoo, conditioner and lotion from the Fairmont we stayed out in Georgetown. I loved it so much I saved all the remaining bottles in our room and took them with me for other trips. 🙂
KathEats says
Yup!
Brittany says
I decided to go check out how much the products cost. Definitely savoring every last drop of my sample bottles – they shampoo and conditioner are $50 each for 8oz bottles!!
KathEats says
Gah!!!
