The wedding was beautiful and fun. I’ll let the photos do most of the talking:
After some fun hanging out at the hotel, we boarded a bus to the ceremony. It was a looong ride and I was thirsty so I had some of Matt’s water –
We made it to the church on time –
I DO
It is HOT here!! We got on the bus to head to the reception and it was nice and cool, but when you step back outside the humidity hits you like a wall
The reception was beautifully decorated
The table cards were also menus!
My thirst was finally quenched with some Perrier!! I wasn’t interested in alcohol at this point
Hors d’oeuvres
Matt and I shared this plate. My greek salad lunch actually held me over wonderfully and I wasn’t even that hungry 5 hours later, but I had a few cheeses because they are delicious and a cracker or two.
And passed – had one of these and turned down several more
I finally got a glass of wine when it seemed we were approaching being seated for dinner
Table 6 was the “rowdy frat bros” table in the back
Derby Salad – a tradition here
My wine glass was refilled when I had only drank half, so this isn’t as much as it seems more
I had a fluffy roll and shared it with Matt
The entree was a Petit Filet with Shrimp, Potatoes and Veggies.
And after. I left most of the beef and taters
First dance during dinner
The love of my life!!
Happy for cake
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That would be Cookies n Cream Oreo filling!! MMMMM! Excellent buttercream.
Matt was out in the ballroom and brought me a piece not knowing that we’d been served. We both ate the filling and icing off of it (neither of us like the “bread” part as we call it)
And a friend gave me the icing he rejected when I raved about it
So I ate a good amount of icing, but not much “cake”
Having had 2 drinks, I moved on to club sodas
We did a lot of dancing next –
I felt pretty good about my eating for the evening (you guys know how much special events are my weakness!)
Until the late-night cookie favors came out!
I ate half of the bride and half of the groom over the course of two hours. Not the healthiest way to end the night!
We didn’t get home until 1AM after an hour long bus ride and were totally exhausted. I fell asleep instantly.
Congrats to Clare and Dover and thanks for the wonderful wedding!!!

Oreo cookie filling in a cake? I would have never thought of that, but it sounds delicious!

What an awesome photo montage! My favorite ones: You with the “water”, the flower bouquets in a row (well done), the roll with buttah – cmon that looks SO delicious.. show it to me anytime and i will salivate (gross? sorry) – and the wedding cake photo where the cake is a little to the left in the picture. very pretty.
You should add photographer onto your list of expertise areas!

The cheeses looked delish and exotic! Mmm. I never realized you and Matt had different last names. 🙂

Hmmm, my birthday’s coming up. I may have to request a cake with oreo filling… 😉

Cookie’s N’ Cream filling in a wedding cake? That’s my kind of couple! That cake looks like it must have been awesome, mostly because it seems loaded with frosting. Yum
Megan (The Runner's Kitchen) says
The wedding looks beautiful and the cake looks delicious. Crumbs Bakery (in nyc) sells an oreo cookie cupcake and I am always tempted to get it 🙂
Mom says
Love the bride and groom cookie favors. They have your sister written all over them.

Ah! So cute 🙂 I love weddings but haven’t been to one in a long time. I agree the cake is the best part, but I actually like the “bread part” better than the icing. 😉

Cookies and cream cake filling?!?!? That sounds amazing 🙂

I loved my wedding cake a TON (yellow cake with lemon buttercream and lemon curd and blackberries for filling) but if I had known cookies and cream was an option I probably would have gone with that!
Biz319 says
What a beautiful reception! My husband has such a love of wedding cake, that every year for his birthday I order a small top tier wedding cake from our local bakery – there is just something about the cake and frosting on wedding cakes – so good!
Glad you had fun!

Some of Matt’s water, huh? 😉 The ceremony and reception look beautiful! I love the cookies–too cute!

It is funny that you and Matt don’t like the “bread” part.
My husband likes the “bread” and I like the frosting so we make a good team. The pictures of the reception are awesome, I am sure it was a good time for all/
Hallie (Healthy Twists) says
Girl after my own heart! Leaving the “bread” and eating other people’s icing instead. I do that all the time…then I get a sugar stomachache and curse myself, but I’m guessing you didn’t do that part of it 😉
Looks like a LOVELY wedding! I have 3 weddings to go to this summer, and I can’t wait!
Danielle (RD Daily Bites) says
Cookies and cream icing!!!! I’m usually into the “bread” verses icing, but I think I would have made an exception for cookies and cream. The bride and groom cookies were adorable, too!
I love the description “rowdy frat boy table” – my hubby wasn’t in a frat, but get him and his friends together and you have one loud bunch!
Looks like you had a blast – enjoy the rest of your weekend!
Christie @ Find My Weigh says
Awesome post, Kath! it is hilarious and sweet all at the same time. I am drooling over oreo filled cake!
Monica says
Kath–
Totally random question… if it is too personal, you don’t have to answer. Did you change your name? It looked like you might not have. Did Matt have an issue with it at first? My boyfriend really wants me to change my name but I don’t really see the need to. Just thought that you might have some insights that you could share!
You looked great last night!
Monica

what a beautiful wedding! And that cake looks to die for!
I totally agree that the icing is the best part. A part of me dies inside when someone scraps the icing off of their cake!!

I thought I was the only icing only eater! I always eat the icing and filling, but not the cake. It’s usually too dry for my taste.

I would love to be at a wedding with you, just to see the reactions of other guests as you take pictures of the food. 😉 BTW, you and Matt looked smashing as always. Love the penguin cuff links!
Special events are my weakness as well. Had one on Friday and another today. I will be hitting the gym several times this week. The bride and groom cookies were an awesome idea! I would have been scarfing up everyone’s. Sugar cookie cut-outs are my favorite!

Thanks everyone!
rhodeygirl ,
They links are Geoffryy Been. I think they were a gift to my grandpa and he gave them to me to give to Matt?
Monica ,
No, I didn’t change my name. I was going to hyphenate, but when it came down to it, that felt the same as changing altogether. I have been Katherine Younger my whole life and really didn’t see why getting married meant I had to change my identity. I am still myself, husband or not!! Thankfully Matt was 100% supportive and said “I wouldn’t want to change my name, so I don’t know why you would want to change yours.” It hasn’t ever been a problem, although we don’t know what we’re going to do with future kids yet…
Vince ,
Taking photos is such a conversation starter!

That cake is/was beautiful. I love its simplicity. My wedding was all white with greenery accents. So pretty. Looks like a fun time!
It’s stinkin’ hot and humid here, too! (Kansas)
Arden says
I changed my name because 1) easier for the kids and 2) I think it is an honor to be his “Mrs.” Old fashioned I guess.
So, how can you be Mrs. Younger? Silly etiquette thing but aren’t you Ms. or Miss Younger? Another thing, here in Ohio they don’t use Miss if they use your first name. They would call you Mrs. Kath instead of the southern Miss Kath. It makes my southern ears bleed when they do that.
Chels says
that cake LOOKS DELICIOUS! Cookies and cream… brilliant idea for a wedding. yum!
