It only takes the thought of a bowl to remind me how much I love oatmeal! We’re in a long distance relationship for the time being, but I try to see him when I can. I guess it’s good I’m dating other breakfasts during this time – for variety’s sake – but no one is as perfect at this guy:
The Mix:
- 1/3 cup oats, 2% milk, water
- Half a huuuuuge banana
- 1 tbsp chia
- ~2-3 tbsp raisins that fell from the bag in a heap
- vanilla + salt
- Mix My Granola
- Butterscotch chips
- Maranatha AB
A boomerang hangin’ out in Christmas Blend
Hi-ho, hi-ho…

I’ve been missing my oats too 🙁
Except I just discovered you can make them on the stovetop and put them in the fridge for later? And then heat them back up? Duuhhhhh 🙂
Freya @ foodfitnessandfreya.wordpress.com says
ahh I couldn’t agree more about the epicness of oatmeal – sometimes I change my breakfast just to be a bit more interesting on my blog, but I always go back…:)
Paige(Running Around Normal) says
Glad you were reunited with your one love!!
Sounds delish!
Ya know, I tried the warming up the half and half before pouring in the French Press, but I still can’t get the froth! Perhaps I’m a bad pourer? (Although I never seem to not get froth when pouring a kef beer ;))haha
Paige(Running Around Normal) says
Woops – meant to say keg beer!
Kath says
I think it’s more about the coffee grounds blooming than the milk. Did you do the method like me – stir after 1 minute to incorporate the grounds? Did you watch the french press video?
megan says
i really wish i loved oatmeal as much as you. how wonderful to love something so healthy. although I will say that since I started putting chopped up apple in my oats, we’ve gotten a little more serious 🙂
Tammy @ Defining Wellness says
I know you’re super busy, but if you have ever have the time, I’d love to see another oatmeal tutorial sometime . . . from start to finish — the timing of everything — when you add ingredients — I think this would be the perfect bowl to do it with . . . IF you have the time. No pressure! 🙂
Kath says
There is already a complete video from start to finish! and more diretions on the Tribute page:

Heather (The Single Dish) says
Pretty yellow bowl, nice to brighten up your early morning!
Sarena (The Non-Dairy Queen) says
I would say that was a perfect union this morning! Enjoy your day at work!
Emily Eats and Exercises says
I could pretty much eat oatmeal every day. I try other things for variety, but it really is the best. You always have such yummy dessert-like toppings… I’m not sure I trust myself to have those in the house, but it does look great. I usually stick to fruit and maybe PB.
Mae @ OhhMay says
Oats put a spring in my step. I hate mornings when I’m too late to make stove top oats. 🙁
Allison K says
haha it’s probably pretty good that you play the field and know what else is out there!
HeatherBakes says
LOL at “dating other breakfasts”- I got sick of oats after probably 2 years straight of eating them every. single. day. But now I’m getting back on the wagon 🙂
Have a great day at work!
Heather says
There is nothing better than a good bowl of oatmeal. Warm, comforting and filling.
I am also trying other breakfasts but always can find a place at my breakfast table for oatmeal.
Adrien says
It’s so nice that you’re in an open relationship with oatmeal, it’s so refreshing!
Congrats on branching out, though I miss your oat posts giving me inspiration to eat mine every morning– I’m just lucky I wrote it down to remind myself!
Katy ( The Balanced Foodie) says
I need to start eating breakfast at the table by candlelight..and with more french press in my life..
Sophie @ yumventures says
I love how you always serve your meals with candlelight 🙂 Your photos are beautiful, I need to work on my own pictures!
Eileen says
Sounds like a great mix!
One of my favorite things to make for my kids is a pretty healthy pumpkin bread that has chocolate chips in it. So … this morning, my oatmeal had a lot of pumpkin and just a few little chocolate chips. AWESOME! It was my first time adding chips of any kind to my oatmeal.
Sarah says
Laughing at the analogy! Enjoy the field!

hi kath, i’m the new poster that keeps checking in to update you on the status of my oats! i just got my chias in the mail and have been slipping overnight oats (and your blog) into every food conversation i’ve been having lately….that’s ALOT of conversations. i’ve been working on my blog for a while, hoping to publish soon. i focus on whole/natural/from scratch cooking with an emphasis on health but also flexible for the sake of flavor and just chefin it up! looking forward to sharing…eventually : )
lynn (The Actors Diet) says
me and oatmeal have been on a hiatus lately as well (i’ve been cheating on him with oat bran)
sarah says
I couldn’t agree more! I love my oats and whenever I think I want a “change” I’m always left feeling hungry soon after and like I’m missing something! 🙂 Oats and I are committed…definately long term! 🙂
Sheila says
Kath-
I went onto mixmygranola.com (which seems awesome and amazing) but was totally overwhelmed!!!
Do you have any suggestions for simplifying this process? For example, do you have a base that you prefer? Do you add any of the *enhancements*, like bee pollen? I am most afraid that I will attempt to order something healthy and end up with a fatty or unhealthy mix!! ( I am the same girl who fell into the *I can eat whatever I want as long as its low-fat * trap!!
I am an overweight 30 year old who has a new devotion to clean and healthy eating but am trying to get in my groove!
Kath says
I really like banana chips, nuts (walnuts or almonds) and chia seeds in mine. I don’t really add the supplements. And the organic base is awesome!
