Get inspired by these living room fall decor ideas. Learn how to use warm colors, textures, natural elements, candles, and more to create a cozy and inviting space that captures the essence of autumn.
It feels so good to be nesting in our newly-renovated house after moving out for six months! I really love fall – the cooler weather, the routines, kids back in school, and of course all things cozy.
It’s a season that brings a sense of coziness and comfort, making it the perfect time to infuse your living room with inviting decor that captures the essence of autumn. I bring out my throw blankets, warmer shades of pillows, and of course spiced candles. I want the changes to withstand a season so that I don’t get sick of them in a week! They’re also mostly for me and my fam to create a feeling when we’re relaxing at home and not for guests or Pinterest readers, so I keep things pretty simple : )
“Decorating” Can Be Subtle
I told my friend Meg I was decorating for fall and she laughed and asked me: “How does Kath Younger decorate for fall?” I laughed right back and admitted there are not spider webs, giant pumpkin pillows, or bats on my wall, but I do make some subtle changes to the decor!
While my personal interior design style is focused around neutral living room color, I do enjoy adding a bit of fall inspired decor and gold decor accents to our living spaces September through November. I don’t go overboard for specific holidays like Halloween, but I do like adding a few fall decorations scattered here and there that make our home feel welcome with the seasons. This year I focused on a few new plant-y things with these dried pampas I found on super sale at Pottery Barn and a dried lavender bundle for the mantle.
Of course if the foliage is right, you can just snip some leaves right off a tree!
Today I’m sharing fall decor ideas for your living room. I hope it will inspire your autumn decorating!
12 Living Room Fall Decor Ideas
Here are some fall home decor items that I’m loving for this autumn season.
1. This coffee table.
We don’t actually have a coffee table right now. HA. I’m on the market for one, but we’re also trying not to spend any more money for a bit! I love the brass knobs on this piece. It would look great decorated with fall leaves and a flickering candle. There are matching side tables, too. Although I’m thinking we need something round like this simple shaker coffee table for the size and shape of our living room!
2. This rug.
We just bought this new performance rug for our living room and I LOVE it. This neutral rug is a small area rug that would be cute as a runner or entry rug brought out seasonally.
3. This brass table lamp.
This sweet lamp would look cozy on an end table in a living room.
4. This grass wreath.
You could hang this over a mirror, in the entry way, over the fireplace – I love that it’s neutral. I love these grass stems from Target too! Good price.
5. Grow candles fall collection
Give me all the spiced scents this time of year! I have gotten pickier about the candles I buy. Grow Fragrance has an awesome fall collection, and they are a B Corp that uses only plant-based ingredients with a transparent ingredient list. (Read my blog post about them here). See the pumpkin ginger, spiced pear, apple, and sage scents here!
6. Throw Blanket
Throw blankets everywhere! This plaid blanket would be perfect on a living room chair to add fall color. If you like more neutral like me, try this one!
7. Brass Leaf Bowl
I like that these brass leaf just blends in. You could use it hold some potpourri, but I think it looks nice as is. Reminds me of the leaf bowl I used to eat oatmeal in!
8. Seagrass Print
I love this seagrass print for any season! But it goes especially well with autumn grasses + neutrals.
9. Brown Ceramic Vases
I love these vases; would be beautiful with dried flowers. Similar to the one I have on my dining table with faux eucalyptus.
10. Color Block Pillow
One of the easiest ways to switch up your living room for fall is by swapping out a few fall themed throw pillows. I always swap our upstairs and downstairs couch pillows with the seasons! Coral has entered the party.
11. Pumpkin Candle Holder
This pumpkin candle holders are minimalist and subdued. You could keep them out through Thanksgiving. It certainly adds fall fair! I have two little fabric pumpkins I bring out for the fall. The boys love to play toss with them!
12. Faux Hops Flower Stem
A bunch of these faux hops stems would look pretty in an off white vase.

How To Decorate A Living Room For Fall
Decorating a living room for fall can create a cozy and inviting atmosphere in your home. Here are some tips to help you get started:
Warm Color Palette
Incorporate warm and rich colors like burnt orange, rusts, reds, browns, and yellows. These colors evoke the feeling of fall and create a cozy ambiance.
Layered Textures
Add various textured elements such as plush throw blankets, fluffy pillows, and soft rugs. Consider using materials like knit and velvet to add warmth and depth to the room.
Autumn-Inspired Decor
Use natural elements like pumpkins, gourds, and fall leaves for a touch of nature indoors. You can arrange them in decorative bowls, baskets, or as centerpieces on tables. While I have fabric pumpkins that i can reuse year after year, we also usually buy some of the mini pumpkins (the white ones are my fav of course!) at the grocery store and some of the bumpy, crazy looking gourds too.
Candles and Lighting
Light candles in autumn scents like cinnamon, pumpkin spice, or apple cider. (Try to choose safer ones if you’re sensitive to fragrance!) You can also use string lights or soft, warm-toned lamps to create a cozy and intimate ambiance.
Seasonal Art and Prints
Swap out your usual art and decor with pieces that have autumnal themes. Consider artwork featuring fall landscapes, harvest scenes, or warm-toned abstracts. This doesn’t need to mean that you buy new art, but you could have an upstairs and downstairs swap, or replace a few key family frames with a portrait from the current season (beach scents turn to foliage scenes!)
Seasonal Wreaths
Hang a fall-inspired wreath on your living room wall or door. You can create one using dried leaves, branches, and other natural elements.
Cozy Throw Pillows and Throw Blankets
Drape warm, chunky knit throws over sofas or chairs, and add fall-themed pillows with patterns like plaids, pumpkins, or leaves.
Foliage & Branches
Decorate with faux or dried branches and foliage. These can be placed in vases or arranged in decorative baskets to add a touch of the outdoors. Of course real branches work too! You just have to time that right.
Table Centerpieces
Create a seasonal centerpiece for your coffee or dining table using a combination of candles, mini pumpkins, and natural elements like acorns or dried corn cobs.
Pumpkin Display
Arrange a variety of pumpkins and gourds in different sizes and colors on a mantel, side table, or windowsill for a charming fall focal point. The mini white pumpkins are my favorite. You could even decorate them with a Sharpie!
Autumn Rugs
Consider swapping out your usual cozy rug or doormat for one with fall-inspired colors and patterns. This can anchor the room’s design and tie everything together.
