Arrived at Gram’s!
Just like March, we were in like a lion and out like 3 little lambs.
My drive was pretty good and full of snacks and Pregtastic podcasts.
I nibbled on trail mix at 10:30 [other snacks are for the rest of the trip]
And then this was lunch enjoyed at noon –
cheese + jam sandwich
A pile O grapes
And the second half of an Odwalla smoothie refresher [I liked the other flavor I tried better]
At Grams we had a few more snacks – hot tea and grapes
And a toffee –
On my way out the door I was still hungry and felt I was missing some protein, so I steamed up a slice of smoked salmon and ate that on an end piece of bread. [Microwaved salmon is NOT ideal, but it’s supposed to nuke the bacteria and it doesn’t taste bad.]
Normally we’d be on our way to the mall or for a power walk, but I’m feeling pretty tired so I’m going to rest for an hour until we’re due back at Gram’s for a party! I have a hotel room to myself and it’s loads of fun!!
lynn @ the actor's diet says
i’m feeling that cheese and jam combo!
emily says
Have a great trip!
Cheese and jam sandwiches are where it’s at. I literally just ate (buffalo chicken cupcakes, thank you very much!) and that open-faced sandwich shot is still making me drool.
Destini says
I have never had a cheese and jam sandwich before. That seems interesting! Hope you have a great trip
Kinley @ Better Off Barefoot says
Love cheese and jam!! Used to always have mine as a grilled cheese with raspberry jam on top though but still the same concept!
Claire @ Live and Love to Eat says
I love having a hotel room to myself. 🙂 Those grapes are about 1/10 of the serving I’d consume!
Have fun!
Ashley @ Coffee Cake and Cardio says
Have fun!!!
Erin says
You would be banned from my house if you microwaved fish. I might reconsider if you brought toffee.
The Mrs @ Success Along the Weigh says
Cheese and Jam eh? I’m not gonna knock it til I try it! 🙂 Have fun at Gram’s!
Averie @ Averie Cooks says
Glad you made it safe and sound.
cheese + jam sandwiches…I used to eat those as a kid, with my grandma!
Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat says
LOVE smoked salmon, but I don’t think I can do the whole cheese and jam sammy thing! Something about the sweet and cheesy flavours just don’t sit right in my head… I’m glad you enjoyed it though! And have a lovely rest. I don’t travel often but I absolutely adore good hotel beds with copious amounts of pillows!
KhushbOo says
Try making smoked salmon & cream roll-ups…great snack!
bex says
My mouth WATERS every time you have a TREK BAR in your posts…I know GH recipes are secret, but do you know of any recipes that are SIMILAR for those of us not near a GH that makes them? Looks yummy! 🙂
KathEats says
Its kind of like a chocolate chip larabar?
Hillary says
Love your grandma’s Pratt Library mug; I always get a kick out of your B-more mentions when you visit her!
Annie says
Kath, a peek at your bread (which btw looks soo delish) reminded me what a freak I am to must have the jelly spread to the very edges so it’s included in every bite. LOL
Have fun at Gram’s!
KathEats says
Normally I am too! The other side was spread to the edges, but I had a little left in the jar and put in on this side – incomplete!
Kerry @ Totes My Oats says
That sandwich looks so simple and delicious. Enjoy the party!
Jen says
Grams are great for toffee! Fun weekend planned? Are you home again for a visit?
Björg says
Ahhhh I looove being alone in a hotel room 🙂
Hotel rooms <3
Have fun! 🙂
Angela @ Happy Fit Mama says
Fish of any kind is banned from ever being microwaved at my house. We had to throw a microwave out because the smell would not go away no matter what we did!
Enjoy your time with your Grandma!
Andrea @ The Skinny Chronicles says
Can’t say I have had cheese and jam before, but I bet it’s pretty tasty…sweet and salty. Yum. Enjoy your visit.
j3nn says
Enjoy your visit with Gram!!
Elizabeth says
Help, I’m missing something. What does “Just like March, we were in like a lion and out like 3 little lambs” mean? Obviously, I know the idiom about the month of March, but I’m missing what it could possibly refer to here.
KathEats says
I’m just majorly stretching the metaphor that we arrived at grams all excited and now we’re all tired and resting after chit-chatting.
Lisa (bakebikeblog) says
have fun!
Kavi @ Lab to Fab! says
How have I never tried a cheese and jam sandwich?! Seems like a great combo! I just picked up some artisan pepper jam at a winery here in Cape Town, so I’m going to give it a try!
Chelsea says
Hmm, what is the difference betweent the regular Odwalla smoothies and the refreshers? Also, seeing the photos of the chocolates is not making my wait for dinner any easier.
Best thing to do in a hotel room that you don’t have to share… Jump On The Bed!!!!
Megan @ Megan's Munchies says
You come up with the best combinations! Cheese and jam sounds so good!
katie @KatieDid says
Great sandwich combination, especially the extra sharp- one of my faves! Hope you have a blast partying it up tonight!
Angel7 says
I am going to look for some manchego cheese tomorrow. I am interested in trying it!

Ah, one of my favorite and easiest recipes (and always gobbled up) is a cheddar cheese and strawberry jam appetizer: Combine 8 oz. coarsely shredded cheddar cheese, 1/2 c. chopped pecans, 1/2 c. mayo, 1 bunch of chopped green onions, and a dash of red & black pepper. Arrange on serving platter. Top w/ strawberry preserves. Serve w/ crackers like Wheat Thins. (Easily doubled) Great w/ wine at a party! For a bite, use a cheese w/ jalapeno.
Johanna B says
I would give my eye teeth (whatever that means) to spend a night in a nice hotel all by myself. Lucky you!!!
Susan H. @ The Food Allergy Chronicles says
I have never had a cheese and jam sandwich but I do love cheese and jam…go figure! A fave is heating up raspberry jam and then pouring it over a slab of brie…also love Manchego and orange fig jam together…yummy! Thank goodness it is pizza night tonight…I am loading mine up with cheese with all this cheese talk!
Katie @ Peace Love and Oats says
I’be never heard of a jam and cheese sandwich, but I doubt I’d turn it down!
Jasper Naomi @ crunchylittlebites says
why if toffee so wonderful? 🙂 I’ve not dreamt of it yet but I would if I could choose…
Lisa @bitesforbabies says
Cheese and jam?!!! Never tried that combo! Btw, if you’re craving pickles, try crackers with cheddar cheese and pickles…delicious!!
Liz @ Tip Top Shape says
That sandwich looks delish!
Molly @ RDexposed says
I was nervous I was going to eventually see lamb on the plate. 🙁
Glad it was only salmon. No salmon farm as a kid (but a sheep farm!), so it’s ok to eat in my book!
Michelle @ Esculent Dreams says
that cheese and jam sandwich looks so good! i was totally craving that the other day….but went for almond butter and blueberry-chia jam instead 😉
Kaitlyn says
Interesting idea with the jam and cheese. Is this just a pregnancy thing, or have you always enjoyed them and they are worth a try?
KathEats says
I’ve always enjoyed the combo!
Jamie @ Don't Forget the Cinnamon says
I accidentally “cooked” salmon in the microwave at the bagel shop I worked at this summer when trying to defrost it. It definitely is not ideal but is still tasty!
jojo says
hmm, jam and cheese, have not tried that combination yet..
Toffee, yum. Looks exactly like the box that didn’t last long at our house 🙂
Michelle (Better with Berries) says
I’ve had eggs, cheese, and jam, but never just cheese and jam by itself! I’ve also never eaten that few grapes at once. Once I start with grapes, I can’t stop! They are so tasty 🙂
Lexi @ Cura Personalis Foodie says
Cheese and jam? At first thought that sounds weird, but then again, I don’t think anything pairs badly with cheese 😉
Fran@ Broken Cookies Don't Count says
Sounds like you’re in for some fun!
