We have a bike rider in da house:
There had been a bee chasing us around that he spots at the last second. Hence the mic drop/bike drop!
Mazen had been sitting on the two wheeler and walking with his feet for about a week, sometimes balancing but not using the pedals. Just yesterday I just started holding the bike and walking beside him while he pedaled, and he asked for me let go just a few minutes later. I think he could sense the feel of balancing that he had learned on his balance bike. (This is the one he had/has that he loved.) Once I let go a few times, he got it right away! The hardest part to learn was the push off start, but he got that after a few tries too. I’ll adjust his seat height once he gets the hang of the pedals, and I think a new bike is in his future!
Yesterday was a great day! More great weather; fun times with the kids. Note the spelling of “leaf” on the right side:
I picked up both Mazen and Sylvia after school, and we walked/scooted/biked to the downtown mall.
We ended up at ACAC where we all got something to eat. Mazen and Sylvia got smoothies (Mazen asked for a ‘Venom Green Smoothie’ so we added spinach?!?), and I got a stacked salad.
Great idea, but poorly executed. I had to eat through all the feta (and that’s, um, only partially a complaint!) to get to the bland veggies on the bottom. Next time I’ll bring a big bowl with me!
After a call with a client and a little work, I collected the kids, we hopped back on our “vehicles” (as they call them), and we started off on the trek home, stopping for nature sights along the way. Like this urban reptile!
It’s never a good sign when your door knob falls off in your hand! Luckily a handyman lives at my house!
We played outside for a long while, and I had a Crispy (aka seltzer aka crizbee) with Mr. Crab.
My neighbor brews kombucha and sent over a wine bottle re-filled with lemon flavor. Yum!!
We had a random mix of leftovers for dinner that turned into this powerhouse salad:
And I had Mother’s Day cake for dessert!!
This morning I am having some overmorning oats. Instant oats with yogurt and just a splash of milk plus blueberries on top and some jam stirred in. It might just be my new thing!
I am hopping on a plane this afternoon (not to be confused with Gettin’ Drunk on a Plane!) heading to Chi-town!! Hoping to check in with you guys later today!

Looks like you had a great Mother’s Day! And congrats to Mazen for learning how to ride a bike. 🙂

My son learning to ride a 2-wheeler ranked up there with learning to walk! For some reason it just seemed like such a HUGE milestone! Last summer he learned to ride a bike, tie his shoes, catch fish (with his fishing ride) and started taking showers on his own. Then 2 months later took off to kindergarten! I always feel like milestones clump together and it’s exciting and sad at the same time to watch them grow up 🙂

I know!! I felt the same – “this is the day you learned to ride a bike!” He’s also learning to swim, so it feels like two huge milestones in one month!

How exciting about the bike! My husband is super into biking and I can’t wait to watch him teach our little guy some day 🙂

Love the Susan B. Anthony bicycle quote! And jealous that you have a neighbor who brews kombucha — maybe one day I’ll make my own, but I really don’t need another project right now!

Couldn’t help but research the quote, as I’d like to use it myself. Looks like it might have actually come from another suffragist, Frances E. Willard. My digging led me to *this* bicycle-related quote attributed to Susan B. Anthony:
“Let me tell you what I think of bicycling. I think it has done more to emancipate women than anything else in the world. I stand and rejoice every time I see a woman ride by on a wheel. It gives a woman a feeling of freedom and self-reliance. It makes her feel as if she were independent. The moment she takes her seat she knows she can’t get into harm unless she gets off her bicycle, and away she goes, the picture of free, untrammelled womanhood.” 🙂 🙂 🙂

Oh wow – love that one even more!! I just Googled bike quotes, so I guess someone crossed the names over time. I remember Frances Willard’s name from my college studies!

So exciting for Mazen- some of my favorite memories as a kid were involving my bike!

The salad must’ve started real salty with all that feta! Is it true that feta is also one of the lesser evil dairy cheeses if you’re intolerant?

My sister recently had her brand new bike stolen despite using a lick! Careful out there. You may need to use two or three 😉
